OSU fans saying “The” is kinda like signing your message board posts “Regards.”
If that was the worst thing about him, then he’d be way down the scale of OSU fan obnoxiousness.
As somebody on SDMB suggested to me a couple of years ago, I suggest that you start referring to it as “an” Ohio state university.
Just call it “Ohio.”
ooooo, given that the Ohio Bobcats are a middling-to-below-average MAC team, that’d really send them into a tizzy.
I’ll do that.
In mine experience, Ohio alumns are even more pissy about Ohio State being called Ohio than Ohio State alumns.
There’s also a lot of ill will of Miami University alumns towards University of Miami.
Those two old Ohio schools have never been happy about upstarts, in-state or out.
For this Golden Flashes fan, I think of Kent State and not Kansas State when someone refers to “K-State” or “KSU”. Coes from leading them to like 11 national championships in video games.
Obviously a lot different in Big 12 country.
I know, however, that on numerous occasions I’ve heard national pundits refer to Kansas State as ‘K-State’. I don’t think I’ve ever heard that reference to Kent State.
I seem to recall Michigan’s coach Harbaugh referring to OSU that way, as a dig in response to OSU’s juvenile reference to UM as “that school up north”.
Sorry to be missing the Army-Navy game. Well into the 4th quarter, the teams have racked up a combined zero passing yards.
Army now has 28 passing yards. Navy still at zero.
The two teams have combined for 17 punts.
The unmoving force meeting the barely-resistant object.
Navy just punted, for the 10th time, with 7 seconds left. This riveting game is now going into OT tied 10-10.
Army’s lone touchdown was scored after a punt was blocked. Army has 125 yards of offense.
First ever overtime in this series. Nothing for 4 quarters, then back-to-back TD’s (one of them A PASS!)
Still going…
Army ended up winning, and finished the season 6-6. Fortunately for Rice’s bowl plans, two of Army’s wins were against FCS teams. Up through 2016, if there weren’t enough bowl eligible teams, a 6-6 team with two FCS wins would have become bowl eligible ahead of a 5-7 team, although it probably wouldn’t have done Army any good as a bowl probably would have taken Appalachian State, which also was 6-6 but with two FCS wins, on selection day rather than wait to see if Army reached 6-6 six days later.
…and Navy fired their coach.
Don’t they have to Courts Martial him?
Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach fell ill on Sunday, while at home, and is currently hospitalized, in critical condition. Neither the school nor his family have released details, but a report in a Mississippi newspaper indicates that he suffered a massive heart attack.
Leach had previously been the head coach at Texas Tech and Washington State.
Leach and Bob Knight were at Texas Tech at the same time. There were big hopes for the football and basketball programs.
The Mississippi State team improved under Leach.
Massive heart attack with possible brain damage doesn’t sound survivable. Maybe Mike will beat the odds
Speaking of former Texas Tech coaches, Chris Beard has been suspended by UT after he was arrested this morning on domestic violence charges. He led Tech to the 2019 NCAA championship game and had the Longhorns in the Top 10 this year. I’ll let the legal process play out, but he’s almost certainly done at Texas.
He’s suspended without pay until further notice, which is a logical first step for the UT administration.
Associate head coach Rodney Terry is coaching the game tonight against Rice.
