He was always a weirdo but as I told my wife, he’s a good kind of weirdo. My heart goes out to him and his loved ones. I always thought he was entertaining and pretty down-to-Earth for a guy in his position.
Mike Leach passed away on Monday night, due to what Mississippi State described as “complications related to a heart condition.” The ESPN story below also notes that he had been dealing with pneumonia during the regular season.
61 is too young to die. Best wishes to the family…
Mike was an innovative coach that had a lot of peoples attention in the late 90’s and early 00’s. He was a two-time national coach of the year, three-time conference coach of the year and the mastermind behind the NCAA record-setting air raid offense.
He still had a lot of respect and was making progress turning arround Mississippi States program.
Mikes career ended 158-107
He helped change the way that college plays football in the modern era and it has trickled into the NFL as well. His air raid style has echoed through all of football. Truly a special coach and I hope he is honored as he deserves.
RE: Mike Leach
He always kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I know him mostly from the Pac-Whatever time, but I’m not surprised he had a major heart attack. He always seems like he was on the verge of one every time I saw him. Didn’t seem like he led a healthy life and was very emotionally stable. But he did coach some entertaining football.
It must suck to be a coach these days. It’s like a constant game of Musical Chairs. Got fucking moving companies on speed-dial (wow, what a fucking dated reference).
I can’t disagree with any of that. I was surprised to learn he was only 61. He always seemed older. He never appeared healthy.
Is the Liberty Bowl ever going to end?
No matter what, Arkansas got boned. I don’t think that was Targeting.
I’m a Jayhawk fan, and I agree with you…that was a BS targeting call.
Also, it wasn’t a fumble that started the comeback for Kansas. The game should have been over when the score was 38-23.
Having said that, give credit to KU for a rather amazing comeback. The onside kick was perfectly executed, although Arkansas screwed it up bigtime.
FSU vs Oklahoma tonight, much different than the 2000 National Championship game.
And where the hell has the last 22 years gone!
I’d really like to compliment the officiating in The Alamo Bowl. Well, assuming there was any.
Jeez, early in the second and so many missed calls. This is a disgrace.
DAMN! Michigan is getting taken behind the woodshed by TCU. Did not see that coming.
Looks like I Jinxed TCU. Sorry, Frogs.
Michigan’s offense was there, but their defense was terrible.
They were outplayed.
So, I’m still watching the game. That ‘last’ play…
I’m shouting at the TV “Targeting! Targeting!”
Then the announcers heard me… waiting… waiting… Bang. Power goes out, knocking my Dish service into Reset mode. Gonna be 5 minutes…
If that wasn’t targeting, that rule is worthless.
I do have to say, I was a bit surprised. I went to a Big 10 school, so I was rooting for Michigan, but, man, I don’t know about that call.
Agreed. That was a classic targeting play. Stupid, obviously, but it was definitely targeting. Michigan would have had the ball around midfield with 25 seconds left.
But give TCU a whole bunch of credit. I expected Michigan to win by double digits.
This OSU/UGA game is turning into a barnburner.
Georgia takes the lead with 54 seconds left.
Ohio State MISSED the field goal. Georgia wins.
