I’m hoping this costs all of those involved any kind of NFL opportunity.
Hahahahahahaha…
Wait, you were serious?
The NFL caring about character issues? Not gonna happen anytime soon.
It can potentially affect them in the draft. Players with discipline issues or other off-field problems have sunk in the draft before.
But made ineligible for the NFL? Only if they actually end up in prison or have done something so egregious that they become radioactive. And even then, if they’re really good they might still get signed.
If nothing else, the Browns will sign them.
Or the Vikings.
Holy Crap! I watched a little bit of the Air Force/Army game. I saw Army pass the ball! Twice!!
This looks to be an entertaining weekend. And the weather is taking a leading-role in a couple of big games this afternoon. I was watching Game Day, and they showed a clip of the Ohio State kicker warming up. He kicked the ball, it went maybe 30 yard and just dropped like a rock! 40 mph gusts right into the kick.
Not that it was a “big game,” but Maryland played at Wisconsin today, and they’re being affected by this same intense windstorm that we’re getting here in Chicago. The two quarterbacks were a combined 15 out of 41 passing. ![]()
That 75-yard punt by Georgia that went out of bounds at the one-yard line is about the best punt I’ve ever seen, at any level.
Army wound up attempting 14 passes, completing 4. The infantry had a bad day, heavily outgained by Air Force.
Georgia/Tennessee is seriously not living up to the Hype. The Vols defense must have stayed home on Rocky Top. Most of the other games I’ve skipped around have sucked as well.
Not sure I can watch Bama/LSU. My ‘Perfect Outcome’ would be for the teams to line up for the kickoff and then Notre Dame’s plane crashes on the field! No casualties! ![]()
I was skipping around between games and just missed that, but the ensuing Pooch-Screwing by the replay officials was pretty bad. I just tell myself is what they meant was that Hooker’s arm was in motion, and it was an incomplete pass, leading to the punt. Otherwise, the call was just plain wrong. If it was a fumble, it resulted in a Safety.
The Jayhawks are going bowling this year!
For a team that won 3 conference games in the previous five seasons, this is a Big Deal.
FSU destroys Miami, Texas A&M AND Alabama both lost? It’s a good day, 'Tater.
Got to watch most of the FSU/Miami game at a sports bar in Tampa, it felt good to be surrounded by FSU fans and destroy Miami. The arrogant Canes scheduled us for Homecoming, hope some Miami fans spent a fortune to have their homecoming ruined
Jimbo, Dabo and Saban all lost. Saturdays don’t get much better.
Hope it’s not too early to talk about the College Football Playoff…
With yesterday’s win over Tennessee, Georgia appears to be a lock for the playoffs. They play Mississippi State, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech, plus the SEC championship game. They should win all of those games, but even with a loss somewhere I think they’re in.
Even after yesterday’s loss, I think Tennessee has a good chance to make the playoffs. They play Missouri, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt, all games they should win easily. 11-1 might get them in, depending on what happens elsewhere.
Everybody else in the SEC has two losses, and that stat probably eliminates them.
Clemson’s loss yesterday to Notre Dame certainly puts a question mark by their chances. They have Louisville, Miami, and South Carolina, plus the ACC championship game, which could be 8-1 North Carolina. UNC, however, still has to play ranked teams in NC State and Wake Forest, plus unranked Georgia Tech. But if UNC wins out, including a win over Clemson, who knows?
The winner of the Ohio State/Michigan game is also probably a lock, even with a stumble in the Big Ten championship game. I think the loser is probably out of the playoffs, unless things fall just right.
TCU presents an interesting case. If they finish 12-0, it would be damn difficult for the committee to leave them out of the playoffs. But they still have to play Texas, Baylor, and Iowa State, and then probably either Texas, Baylor, or maybe Kansas State in the Big 12 championship game. A loss in any of their last four games may knock them out of playoff contention. No other Big 12 team has less than 2 losses.
That leaves the Pac-12, where USC, UCLA and Oregon are all 8-1. Oregon, of course, got shellacked by Georgia in the first game of the year, but that loss isn’t looking all that bad right now. USC’s sole loss was a last-second TD and 2-point conversion to Utah, so that’s probably a ‘good loss.’ UCLA’s loss was to Oregon, another ‘good loss.’ Oregon has Washington, Utah, and Oregon State; UCLA has Arizona, USC, and Cal; USC has Colorado, UCLA, and Notre Dame. Should either of these three teams run the table and win the Pac-12 championship game, that team is a strong contender for the CFP. But if they all finish with 2 or more losses, they all might be out of the playoffs.
Obviously, there’s a lot more football to be played, and much will change in the next month. I, for one, am looking forward to watching as much as possible.
Your thoughts?
The winner of the SEC will get in. Right now, I would be willing to put money on Georgia for that. LSU controls its own destiny to get into the SEC championship game, and if they do and then upset Georgia, it wouldn’t surprise me if both of those teams are included.
I agree that the winner of Ohio State / Michigan, which is almost certain to go undefeated and win the Big 10, will also be included.
If TCU goes 12-0 and wins the Big 12, they damn well better be in the final four. If they get left out again like they did in 2010, we’ll know for sure that this thing is completely rigged.
Get real, man! Alabama will get in. Someone, somehow will justify it. They just won’t tell us why. ![]()
Thank goodness Alabama has dropped down to #10, but I wouldn’t put it past the polls to move them up 8 places for bravely and courageously beating Austin Peay at home in a couple weeks.
U-M and OSU winner gets in
SEC champ gets in
TCU gets in
Pac-12 winner should get it.
I don’t see Clemson jumping back up that far, having lost in their annual game against someone who might beat them.
Yeah, I don’t understand why the SEC feels it’s necessary to play a non-league game in the last month of the season. It’s not like they don’t have enough teams in the league, fer crissake.
Missouri plays New Mexico State.
Kentucky plays Louisville. OK, maybe a rivalry game, but play it in September.
LSU plays UAB.
And on and on.
Not every SEC school plays a late non-con, but why should any school be playing a game like this?
SEC teams are not afraid to play conference games in the early weeks of the season.
I think it good scheduling and it obviously puts one or more teams in position to win the NCAA Championships.
Playing a “homecoming” - type opponent late in the season gives them a chance to heal, rest some of their stars.
I think a better question to ask is why other power 5 conference teams don’t do the same scheduling.
