If I was intensely invested in making sure that the Alabama - LSU matchup dominated college football for 2 weeks (let’s say I was running the SEC, or ESPN, or some other Power That Be), I would be sweating bullets today. What if one of them lost? There goes my #1 vs #2 matchup! Oh noooooo!!!
Ah, but wait…neither of them plays today! Whew!!!
How convenient.
OK, I know it’s a ridiculous conspiracy theory given how far in advance games are scheduled. But still.
I keep channel surfing, looking for a good game – MSU-Nebraska turned out to be a dud; K-State and Oklahoma was fun for the 1st half, but now it’s a rout; and TWLOCP is unwatchable: nothing but bad passes, missed FGs and penalties.
Remember a few years ago, when Ohio State and Michigan were running the table in the B!G? ESPN had a countdown clock for at 4 weeks during much of their programming.
Strange, that that is not being repeated with the LSU/BAMA game.
Then again the game is on CBS.
JSC1953, you really didn’t think they would schedule an off week prior to playing Ole Miss, did you?
I said earlier, the B!G and Big XII would do well by adopting the SEC scheduling model. Spread out the conference games and schedule cupcakes and off dates in the middle of the season.
Of course the ACC does this as well, and it doesn’t seem to help them.
Well Michigan 7-1 is a pretty good thing. It’s a real soft 7-1, but they didn’t have a major stumble, so not bad, and guaranteed a winning season. The rest of the season will be a much harder test, and an option to show that they are back.
But I still don’t know shit about what’s what in the Big Ten. I boldly predict they will go somewhere between 4-0 and 0-4 over the rest of the schedule.
That was probably the worst game I’ve ever seen when you consider the winner’s performance along with the loser’s. Oh well, at least the Gators will still get to play in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl or something…if they’re lucky…
I really enjoyed the Buckeyes’ win last night. I think I wanted them to beat the Badgers this season just slightly more than I want them to beat Michigan. Between the way Wisconsin tailored their offense to grind it out on the ground against a smaller, quicker Buckeye D last season, to the fact that they brought some free agent QB in this year, and Wisconsin sports fans in general getting a bit uppity…you deserved that, Badgers fans.
Well, I got the entertaining and watchable game I was looking for: Stanfurd - USC. Unfortunately, it’s my annual Is There a Way Both Teams Can Lose? game.
Highlight (among several) of a game that was more exciting and nail-biting than the score would suggest.
The still shots from that sequence are amazing. One-hand catch, switch hands to get inside the pylon, go airborne, nail it, get up and shake off the pain. Lutz is The Dude!
And really, SEC? A one game suspension for one of the worst hits I have ever seen? Flattening a guy deliberately who had called for a fair catch, gloating over the injured player, and mouthing off at your coaches after you get ejected only warrants missing one game? I’m sure if the assault had been on a player from Bama or LSU the penalty would have been exactly the same…
It was interesting hearing so many talk about favoring Bama because they were the home team. But last night during the USC-Colorado game, I saw a stat that the road team in the Bama-LSU rivalry is 27-13-X since 1970. I didn’t catch how many ties there were, but surely no more than a couple. Regardless, that’s an interesting stat, and LSU kept with that trend. Their D is so good. They’ve got an interesting game in Baton Rouge against Arkansas the day after Thanksgiving. I should say LSU rolls, but I do know that Bobby Petrino is one of the few coaches I think could get things done against the Tigers D. UGA has no shot in the SEC-CG. Someone is going to face LSU in the Superdome in early January. Yikes.
