So if OSU does not win out, then the two likely options are LSU-Bama and LSU-Oregon.
I know I’ll catch some heat, but I would love to see Bama get a second shot. I’m a huge fan of defense and the 1st game, to me, wasn’t boring at all. Plus I think Bama is the better team and I’d love their chances in a rematch. But then again, I thought they’d win the first game
If the only two choices were LSU-Bama or LSU-Oregon, who would everyone prefer to see?
I would prefer a 1-loss Oklahoma State or Oklahoma over Alabama or Oregon. Clemson still has a chance to move up as well, especially if they blow out South Carolina.
Out of the two, I would grudgingly go with Oregon because I can’t stand the idea of Alabama:
Skipping out on playing Georgia and South Carolina
Losing their conference
Skipping out on their conference championship game entirely
Already having lost to LSU at HOME
And still getting to play LSU again for the “national title”.
At least Oregon would win their conference, and only lost to LSU in Texas (which was a long trip for Oregon, but not for LSU).
I didn’t expect Tech to beat OSU, but I thought they might at least show up. I don’t know how a team that beat OU at home could perform so dismally in the weeks following. We left at halftime.
I am very aware that my beloved Georgia Bulldogs will almost certainly get their collective tails handed to them in the SECCG but at least it looks as if we will get to go to the dance.
After losing to Carolina, I was pretty sure that we were doomed to another year of relative mediocrity.
But danged if the team didn’t surprise me.
I am, of course, ignoring the fact that the rest of the East is under-performing.
If we win against Kentucky (and we should) then we will get the pleasure (hmmm… maybe a different word would be better here)… OK OK… honor of competing against either LSU or Alabama.
Oh well.
“That’s why they play the game.”
“Anything can happen.”
“The other team could miss the bus and forfeit.”
That was probably the most bizarre Miami-FSU game I can remember. The games between 2003 and 2006 were generally stinkfests, but this one actually had moments of really good football…and then just incredibly sloppy play. Miami going with delay of game, time out, delay of game…I thought that was gone when Shannon was fired. The constant replays. FSU’s inability to do a damn thing for 20 minutes and still having the 2-score lead at halftime. So disappointing. Regarding the refs, I agree, but other than the hit on Laron Byrd (where the FSU safety got ejected), I think most of the calls were right. I’m thankful that I don’t think I’ve seen Ron Cherry do a Miami game this year, not that I can remember, anyway.
That’s what I thought with Oregon-Auburn last year, Oklahoma-Florida a few years ago, Ohio State-Florida, USC-Oklahoma (even though it didn’t happen). Great defense, especially fast defense, beats offense. I’d rather see Oregon than Alabama, but that’s just because I like UO, not because I think they’d have a better chance and are necessarily more deserving than Bama. Of course, Bedlam will let us know whether this debate matters.
Agreed. Auburn’s defense was great (including at least one amazing goal line stand iirc) but they only ended up winning by 3 with a field goal at the end of the game that was set up by a bizarre play in which Oregon thought Auburn’s player was down and then he got up and ran again. The defense totally stopped paying attention once they thought the play was over.
My Nebraska had a win over an emotionally-charged opponent at Penn State. Despite all the warnings, PSU fans were very hospitable to visiting Husker fans, and they enjoyed Happy Valley. And I liked how one of our coaches led both teams in prayer. A good message to the Big Ten that they picked the right school in Nebraska.
Now we go to the Big House, what an exciting season to be a Husker fan! You could tell me 20 ways how Oklahoma State is better than Michigan. But it just doesn’t sound as cool as playing Michigan in Ann Arbor! My hope is we get the “Big 3” trifecta: Ohio St-Penn St-Michigan. The Wolverines are a very tall order, but I am encouraged how we responded to PSU and fans trying to win one for their departed coach. That 4th-quarter rally showed they were not going to quit, despite how appalling the week was. Yet, we were up for it.
Michigan State probably will win out, so we won’t win the Leaders (or is it Legends?) Interestingly, we may find ourselves in a better position if we do not go. If we win out, we’re 10-2 and looking at a BCS bid. If we go, but lose the Big Ten title game, we have 3 losses and likely no BCS bowl.
Bama still rumbles on. They lost to the #1 team in the nation…by a field goal…in overtime. They handled a Mississippi State team who has been playing very tough all year long…up until the 4th quarter. This game was no different.
Speaking of the Tide, has anybody come with a better explanation than mini-stroke for what happened to Saban during the last bit of the LSU game? What the hell happened there? If I didn’t know better, I’dve said he had money on the Tigers…
You mean Bama’s OT possession? I can only assume that Jim McElwain (the OC) made the calls. Eh, they tried too much cutesy shit in that game anyway. A double reverse? A wide-receiver shotgun throw? A tailback wheel route? Dumb calls.
Oklahoma State loses to unranked Iowa State. This is going to throw the BCS a curve.
There are 9 teams at 9-1 coming into today’s games, with a tenth team, Houston, who is undefeated but who plays in the weaker non-BCS C-USA conference.
Oklahoma State 10-1 (after Friday lost to Iowa State)
Alabama 9-1
Oregon 9-1
Oklahoma 8-1
Arkansas 9-1
Clemson 9-1
Virginia Tech 9-1
Stanford 9-1
Boise State 8-1
Houston 10-0
Arkansas and LSU will be a huge game if the Hogs dont lose to Mississippi State. Alabama has a creampuff and then Auburn, which is not as good as year’s past.
I did not see the LSU/Alabama game, but it seems that these two teams are both #1, and if they played each other 10 times, more than likely, it would be split 5-5. In the old days before overtime, this would probably be a tie. But fate was on LSU’s side.
So Go Blue This is now a good season. If they win next week it will be a great season. Whatever bowl they end up in will be a big question on the year. If they do go 10-2, and with their bowl draw history they may end up in a bowl game over their heads again, which would put a downer on everything, But things are looking good reagardless.
It doesn’t have to be an either/or thing. You can lose to both.
And really, your team lost to a bunch of kids who had precisely zero involvement with child rape. It’s not the players’ fault, and there’s no reason they should be punished.
Nice to see the ESPN announcers tearing the fucking incompetent ACC refs apart. 1st quarter and three bad calls (or non-calls) already. One overturned on review, but the review and subsequent ref screwups killed our momentum.
