Well now it’s the SEC’s turn. That was a HORRIBLE call at the end of the Vandy/Tennessee game. The line judge clearly blew his whistle and waved the ball down prior to the touchdown. The replay official in that game should never work again. I look foward to the conference’s face-saving bullshit memo on Monday.
This FSU-UVA game is having a crazy ending. Broken legs, facemask penalties, clock running out?
ETA: Heh, a Ron Cherry (?) & Co special, I see. Zakalwe, I feel your pain.
Double Edit: Maybe not Ron, but it sounded like him.
Wow @ that FSU ending. And now USC @ Oregon is coming down to the last 2 minutes, Oregon needs to go 86 yards for a win. Cal leads Stanford, and Baylor and OU are in a shootout with a crazy catch by Baylor’s wr for a 80+ yard touchdown completion.
Ow. That was painful. UVA had no business being in that game. We let them stay close and got burned.
I love Jimbo Fisher and I think he’s doing good things with the program, but he has got to get a full time OC and stop calling the plays. He’s not a great sideline coach and he absolutely SUCKS at time management. These are not new issues for him, but I thought he would grow into the HC role more by now. It’s becoming obvious that we don’t have the time to allow him to grow at his own pace.
Certainly can’t blame this one on the refs. When it came down to it, they got the calls right (or the booth did). This one’s on us. No back-to-back 10 win seasons for these boys.
Down go the Ducks.
How about this: Auburn beats Bama, LSU beats Arkansas, Baylor hangs on against OU, OU beats OSU, Virginia or Clemson beats VPI, and we’re left with Stanford again or Houston.
And the Sooners go down to the Bears. RG3, what a night.
My favorite team is U of Mich. They have one regular season game left and I still don’t have a handle on how good they are. Their defense is far better than last year with practically the same personnel. That would suggest their coach the last few years sucked. early in the year I gave them no chance against Nebraska and they crunched them today.
Next week, Ohio State. I have no idea .
It’s like Mike Slive and the SEC are working some real bizarre mojo around college football this weekend. Oklahoma State loses to my Cyclones? Then Oregon makes a huge rally only to miss on a game-tying field goal, so they lose? And then Oklahoma calls time out, in order to give RGIII enough time to beat them at the end? What is going on?
Agree. I do not subscribe to the notion that a team that doesn’t even win its DIVISION, let alone its conference, should be worthy to make the title game, just because they’re from the mighty SEC. Alabama had their shot, and they lost. Time for a different one-loss team to get their chance at wresting the crystal football away from the SEC.
This weekend has officially made for the craziest college football seasons I can remember… I love it!
My Eagles hung tough against 'Bama. Not a victory on paper, but definitely a moral victory.
UGA didn’t win pretty, but they won and will play in Atlanta in a couple of weeks. Maybe even a return to the top ten in the next poll.
And all of these losses will make the BCS rankings pretty interesting as the season winds down. Fun.
Serious question: what happens if LSU loses to Arkansas next week, and Alabama beats Auburn. That would leave 3 one-loss teams in the SEC West, with Alabama losing to LSU, LSU losing to the Razorbacks, and Arkansas’ loss to the Tide. Who would play for the SEC title?
They lost in overtime by a field goal to the #1 team in the nation. It’s going to be tough to keep them out of it given their season-long performance and ranking history (provided they beat Auburn).
Hey, it’s the BCS. We Ll know it’s based on bullshit and opinion polls, but that’s our system (I would support a tournament 100%, FTR.)
I think I heard that the BCS rankings at that time would decide who goes to Atlanta. Unless…two teams are within 5 spots of each other, and then it goes to head-to-head again. And if all 3 are within 5 spots of each other, then I don’t know. If anyone can get an offense to play well against a great D, which LSU obviously has, it’s probably Bobby Petrino. I’ve been on the “LSU will win it all” bandwagon since they beat Oregon, but I still wouldn’t put money either way on the Battle for the Golden Boot (I hate contrived trophies like that). Watch LSU beat Arkansas, and then spoil it all by being upset by Georgia.
I was at that game with my wife and took my son to his first Bama game. Congrats to Georgia Southern. You have a hell of a team. You threw wrinkles at us all game long, and we’re not used to seeing the triple option.
If there is a 3-way tie in the SEC, the team with the best BCS ranking wins the tiebreaker. My guess it will be LSU based on their OOC schedule, which includes Oregon and West Virginia, neither game at home.
You guys realize that the Top 3 BCS teams tomorrow are going to be:
- LSU
- Alabama
- Arkansas
Craziness.
This is simple, actually. If Alabam loses they will have two SEC loses and the winner of LSU/Arkanasas will win the SEC west. If Alabama and Arkansas both win it will set up a three way tie decided by the 7th tie breaker which is BCS rankings. I think Arknasas will leap frog Alabama in the polls if they beat LSU in LSU, which pretty much means the SEC west is going to be decided by whoever wins the LSU vs the Razorbacks game.
And really… I think that might be the national championship. Everybody else in the top six went down this week!
Addendum to above: LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas are going to be ranked 1,2,3 come tommorow!
Yeah, I know. I just hate the idea of the BCS championship being basically the SEC West best-of-two wrestleoffs.
If anything, though, the past couple of weeks of college football have shown how hard it is to go undefeated through the entire season. That’s not easy, folks. I know Houston isn’t going to get anywhere near the top of the BCS rankings (nor should they, considering their schedule), but I have to give them props if they end up unbeaten. Even if it’s only CUSA.
Okay, assume LSU wins out. That means Arkansas would have two losses, so who would potentially be left with only one?
1. Alabama (already lost to LSU once, at home)
2. Oklahoma State (lost in double OT on the road, but to Iowa State)
3. Stanford (did not look like a contender in the loss to Oregon, at home)
4. Virginia Tech (really? Georgia Tech would be their biggest win)
5. Boise State (lost at home to the Wandering Frogs of TCU)
If there’s any year you could just cancel the championship game and hand the trophy to somebody, it would be this year.
I mean, I think out of those I would most like to see Oklahoma State in the title game, but I don’t see a way they’re going to get ahead of Alabama. So we’ll probably get a rematch … I mean, SEC reunion party. :smack: Nice job, rest-of-college-football.
I think football and basketball should be played naked. Would anyone agree?
Thanks! I’m glad that your son’s first game wasn’t a complete snooze-fest! Honestly, I was just hoping that “my” kids didn’t get too banged up before the playoffs, but they actually acquitted themselves well. Now, here’s hoping for another national championship pennant to fly over our cute little stadium!
Michigan State took Indiana apart yesterday. Best overall game by far this year. Nice moment when a senior offensive lineman got to carry the ball for the first and only time in his career. Thanks to Michigan for shucking the Cornhuskers. Hard to figure Nebraska, getting beaten like rented mules by Michigan and Wisconsin, losing at home to Northwestern, but absolutely throttling Michigan State.
MSU in the inaugural Big Ten title game! Woot!! I think I would much rather play PSU than Wisconsin but they could beat or lose to either team, depending on if the Jekyll or Hyde Cousins suits up.
Best moment of the day: Lee Corso saying “Fuck it” at headgear time and Kirk Herbstreit looking like a second grader who just heard his teacher cut a juicy fart.
