College football fans: how's your team look? -- 2011 Version

Its looking like Kentucky is going to shock the world and win the SEC this season…WOOT!

Yeah, I’m thinking an 8-win season, and I’d be happy with that. For the first year in many, I’m actually excited about Michigan football again. I’m really hoping to see a win under the lights next week, and if we can pull one out there, we may get 9 in the W column. But I’m not holding my breath. Defense is gonna kill us. But there’s hope for the future…

I think we(Michigan) will win the Big 10.

My Nebraska Cornhuskers play the University of Tennessee tomorrow. Time to prove ourselves against the SEC.

Oh, wait, the Chattanooga campus.

Part of me thinks we’ll do really well. Our defense has 3 pre-season All-Americans, and should lead the Big Ten, especially with a weakened Ohio State. Ignoring the Holiday Bowl (our fans & players did, so can I), we’re 3 points from 2-straight Big XII titles. Our game at Wisconsin will have Husker fans invading Madison in droves. And I think our new opponents will enjoy Memorial Stadium. We’re getting a ton of love from the fellow Big Ten teams and the media.

The other part of me says “Whoa Nelly”. That offense, or lack thereof. Martinez went from Heisman to “most hated QB since Scott Frost”. He has a year under his belt and we fired our O-Coord, so there’s a glimmer. However, our offensive line scares me (imagine a Nebraskan saying that). We start no one over sophomore, and one is a transfer from the D-Line. A far cry when we’d build O-linemen from corn-fed farm boys. Add that to we have NO IDEA how we stack up to the Big Ten teams. Eight totally new gameplans to create. They only have to prepare for one.

This Baylor/TCU CFL game is highly entertaining! 67 points win in the first half. I have no idea what the over/under is. Baylor’s offense looks really good.

Just logged on to mention the track meet that is the TCU Baylor game. You can’t turn away for a minute or you end up missing two touchdowns.

And my math totally sucks, that should have been 57 points, not 67. Doing a little investigation, the over/under was 53-55 pts depending on what bookmaker. Still blew it away in the first half…

Man, I am so glad I watched this game! If we don’t see another one like this all season, the Baylor victory ought to make the record books. Yo-yo scoring; the full range of emotions; outstanding individual efforts; 100 degree conditions; a battle royal.

My team’s playing on our super secret network that nobody can see but according to some can devour entire athletic conferences in single bite.

I predict Americans will be inspired to go to the moon again once the ritual sacrifice is over tomorrow. After that I’ll think they’ll win 7 more, go to Alamo bowl, and then on to whatever mega-conference they end up in.

OSU looks good. Two suspensions this first game, but it’s ULaLa.

(Posted from the student campground outside the gates!)

Definitely one heck of a game, and a nail-biter til the end! Personally, I prefer watching defensive battles vs. high-scoring games (my SEC bias, I guess,) but I’m a sucker for an underdog, so that was a satisfying game. Baylor’s QB was pretty impressive, as was his primary receiver (Knight?)

Meh. Somebody should have told both those teams to save room on the bus for the defensive units. What a joke.

It’s probably a personal bias against ESPN’s announcer teams, but I like Joe Tessitore and Rod Gilmore better than any others. Their ability to make games as exciting as possible, without showing any personal favoritism, is unmatched.

A big deal was made over TCU’s winning streak being broken. Who does that leave with the longest one now? Auburn’s last loss was to Bama in 2009 and they have a 15-game streak going into today’s game. Who has a longer one?

Well it has to be Auburn, since TCU and Auburn were the only undefeated teams last year. Unless you are including a lower division.

No idea what Div I team would be behind Auburn. Stanford maybe? with 8 wins?

There must be some trivia site with that sort of data. I just haven’t been able to locate it.

I was going to also suggest Ohio St., but their record was 0-1 last year. Whoops.

I guess they have a 6 game non-losing streak.

Oklahoma’s streak is 5.

They are tough to figure. Denard can move the offense, but it sound like the coach wants to slow it down. That usually does not work out very well. The defense was horrible last year. It won’t take much to improve it.

if “slow it down” = Keep Denard healthy, then I think it is a very good idea.

The Druidess is pleased, as her Ohio State Buckeyes are crushing Akron, 28-0 at the moment, and they’ve pulled most of the starters. The starting QB had a big day, running for a TD and passing for three more.

I think the moral of the Utah State - Auburn score is something that we all know, but need to be reminded of from time to time: pre-season rankings are meaningless.

I hope the SEC fans enjoyed that “most ranked teams ever” status, because that and $4.95 will buy you a frappuccino.
