College football fans: how's your team look? -- 2011 Version

Should we start a “College Football 2011” thread, or will this one do?

OK, I posted 3 minutes too soon. But pre-season rankings are still meaningless.

Preseason rankings are not meaningless. if #1 OU #2 Bama and unranked California (cough) all go undefeated, which two teams do you think is going to the BCS game?

Want some ketchup to go with your crow?

Good point. “Meaningless” is the wrong word – “based on sheer guesswork and laden with unwarranted meaning” is too long, though.

Oak…I’ll take my crow straight, thanks.

The only difference in the intensity and nail-biting nature of the Baylor game and the Auburn game had to be that I had an emotional investment in the outcomes. Both games rank as hard to beat for excitement.

It will be hard for the two big games tonight to come close to these two.

Feel free to start another thread if you want. The counterpart to this one last year ran all season. The only difference is that you started last year’s.

Buckeyes look better than I expected, given all the issues. Defense didn’t miss a beat (including one of the most athletic interceptions I’ve ever seen from a linebacker), both quarterbacks were consistent and the freshman, Braxton Miller, recovered excellently from a terrible first series that was mostly not his fault (3 and out due to a drop and a bad snap). Too bad it’s all meaningless, but nobody looked rusty or unprepared, and Fickell is growing on me.

You should be proud. Kent State fought hard all the way through. Those 5 turnovers are huge, and that kind of ball-hawking will win you guys a lot of games.

It could be another long year in South Bend if the first half of their game with South Florida is any indication. ND is dominating the stats, but they have turned the ball over three times. the game is in a lightning delay.

Cancelled? The Michigan game is now CANCELLED? what pussy crap is that?

The ESPN boxscore says the game was called late in the third qtr.

trying to figure which uniforms are worse. Oregon’s or Georgia’s.

and THE Ohio State University takes step one to an undefeated season and a BCS championship.

Notre Dame loses, more than 7 hours after kickoff. I am sure the ND boards are lighting up right now.

Is there some sort of new rule that calls on games being delayed on account of rain?

C’mon Dawgs. Hopefully our freakin’ defense can pull out a win for us… our offense looks lost.

So far my alma mater, LSU, looks pretty damn good against Oregon.

I’d say Michigan looks better. It’s hard to tell when their opponent was a MAC team, even though the commentators said W. Michigan was pretty decent, especially at the pass. At first, the defense looked like it picked up where it left off last season with the blown assignments in coverage early on. Not sure who #5 was on defense, but that was a nice touchdown saving tackle on that play from about the 10 where he had two receivers lined up in front of him. (yeah, W. Mich scored a couple plays later, but that was still a nice save) Plus they were getting gashed pretty good at first. The tackling looks much, much better than last year though. I didn’t really see any of those pathetic attempted arm-tackles like they were trying to do last year.

Mattison finally had enough and dialed up the pressure, and it worked like a charm. W. Mich’s QB changed into an entirely different player once UM forced that tipped ball for a pick-six. I was happy to see them get consistent pressure on the QB like that. It’s probably a little early to look at a Big-10 title, but who knows? If they can fix up some issues on the D, and get in QB’s faces like that all year, maybe they can do it. Especially with Ohio State’s forced coaching change, although I see they absolutely clobbered their opponent today.

Finally, it was cool to see Michigan lining up in the I again and gutting the defense with some nice runs up the middle.

The stupid sideline floozie reported that they were cancelling it in the third quarter, not just ending it then.

Illinois 1-0, on pace for 12-0. Looks pretty decent from here.
