I’m an Indiana University fan. (Go ahead and mock me; we’re used to it.)
Needless to say, you can stick a fork in the Hoosiers; they’re done, but the effing university will probably keep Bill “I can’t motivate a kid full of Ex-Lax to take a shit” Lynch around for another season, and it will be horrid.
I read today that Glass, IU’s idiot AD, is making a salary of something like $420,333. Talk about an overpaid idiot.
Frankly, I think IU ought to quit playing football, turn the stadium into a parking garage, and concentrate on soccer and basketball.
Well, since it’s the start of Rivalry Season (it used to be Rivalry Week, but the games seem to drag out now over the next 3 weeks) I now present The Stanford Jonah:
When the training days are done,
And the Big Game’s just begun,
And there’s music in the air;
When our team runs on the field,
Stanford knows her fate is sealed,
For the Golden Bear has left his lair.
When the yells of lusty throats
Start to getting Stanford’s goats,
And the rooting section seems a howling mob,
Then you grab your hat and shout,
You let folks know you’re about,
For you know that Stanford Jonah’s on the job…
chorus
So then it’s up with the Blue and Gold,
Down with the Red;
California’s out for a victory,
We’ll drop our battle axe on Stanford’s head; chop
When we meet her, our team will surely beat her.
Down on the Stanford farm, there’ll be no sound,
When our Oski rips through the air.
Like our friend Mister Jonah, Stanford’s team will be found,
In the tummy of the Golden Bear.
Go Bears!!!
What Palin University ,home of the Grizzly bears?
What the hell’s going on in the SEC this week? We’ve got Bama vs Georgia State; South Carolina vs Troy; Florida vs App. State. Is this the traditional “Get Your 3rd String Some Minutes Week”?
Glorified Bye. Rest up week. An opportunity to watch the high-powered other conferences?
Resting and fine tuning before rivalry week. Next weekend has UGA v GaTech, USC v clemson, UF v FSU, Auburn v Bama etc.
Badgers 48 Michigan 28. Woo Hoo!!! Yippee Ki Yay!!!
(Before the season began, I would have been very very happy if the Badgers had won 9 games - including a better-than-average bowl game. This year continues to exceed all my expectations.)
I am starting to smell roses…, but there is more work to do…
Your guys played a hell of a game. That was good old fashioned punch them in the mouth Big Ten football - 3 yrds and a cloud of dust (though in your case more like 7 yrds and a gust of wind…:)) Bo will be rolling in his grave…
I’ve been very impressed by the Badgers this year. I didn’t see the MSU game (watching them now it boggles the mind that Wisconsin lost), but I did see OSU and Iowa and they’ve been damn good. Well played and well coached.
I would love to see them play Stanford in the Rose Bowl for another classic Big Ten - Pac Ten matchup (the way God intended).
As for our guys, for the 11th time this season they need a defense. I see tiny improvements, but really there’s still the need for a serious overhaul. I just don’t see it as “5 freshmen who need to grow up”. Something’s not working and hopefully it will be addressed in the off-season. Otherwise by the time these kids grow up Denard and Tate will be long gone.

Indiana vs Akron
Iowa vs Ball St
Michigan vs Bowling Green
Mich St vs Northern Colorado
Minnesota vs Northern Illinois
Northwestern vs Central Michigan
Ohio St vs East Michigan
Penn St vs Temple
Purdue vs Toledo
Wisconsin vs Austin Peay
Illinois (idle)
And Nebraska is getting the hang of things because their game that week was:
Nebraska vs South Dakota St.
The SEC starts playing conference games in the 2nd week of the season. All teams start with Conference games by the third week of the season. When you start feasting on the main course early, you can leave room for for cupcakes at the end of the season.
Truth!
Because that was September and this is November. Playing a late season cupcake to take a breather is weak sauce.
Besides, your memory is bad: there was plenty of bitching about the Big Ten slate that weekend (rightfully so).
September, November, to-MAY-to, to-MAH-to. Does not matter.
The SEC has 4 non-conference games, just like the Big 10, the Big 12 and the ACC. I frankly think the SEC and ACC do it right, intersperse the non-conference games throughout the season.
The SEC has big intra-conference block-buster games almost every week of the season. While the Big 10 has one or two weekends like they had on Sept 25.
Michigan qualifies for a bowl. They travel well. They bring along a lot of big spending fans. That means they will likely get too good a bowl game for their team. Denard is a good draw too. So they will probably go some place good and get whipped.
On, Wisconsin!
Big 12 football had been dead to me but it’s making a slight comeback. If we (OU) can manage to beat OSU in Stillwater (OU is currently a 2.5 underdog) then I think we’ll get to play Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game. Neither team would deserve it IMHO but it would be fitting if the final Big 12 game was between OU and Nebraska.
The most embarrassing thing about the BCS isn’t the fate of the non-AQ teams, or that the #6 team in the country may wind up in the Alamo Bowl, but the fact that the Big East gets to send an unranked team to be crushed and annihilated in a big-money BCS bowl that nobody will watch.
Yeah - why can’t the BCS understand that the Big East is a basketball conference. I’ll say it slowly for any lurking BCS officials: aaaaaaaa baaaaaaskeeeeeettttbaaaaallllll cooooonfereeeeeenceeeeee!
I’m sure you all know that when the BCS was being negotiated, the Big East included West Virginia, Miami and Virginia Tech. At that time, one of those schools was typically vying for the National Championship. Since then, of course, Miami and VaTech have left for the greener pastures of the ACC.
