That’s not really fair. BSU has chalenged a number of good opponents over the last 5 years, and beaten most of them. The are a legitimately very good team, who deserved a three or 4 spot. And a chance in the national game in Auburn or Oregon had stumbled, and they had been undefeated.
They simply lost a game to another good team like most other very good teams do once or twice. They no longer deserve the ranking or the shot, because that’s the way the game is played, but to pretend this one loss proves they were chumps and posers all along all along is wrong.
Virginia Tech
Oregon State
TCU
Oregon
This year and last year. They play a better schedule than teams in the ACC.
I’ve never heard a single person argue that Boise should have been in the title game last year. When people say they deserve a shot, they mean that the system is broken because it precludes most teams from having a chance regardless of how well they play.
FTR: The ACC historically plays more inter-conference games against BCS Conference Schools (& Notre Dame) than the Big 10, Big 12, and the SEC on a per team basis.
Thus far, the ACC has played 12 games against BCS teams, and today they play 4 more (GT/UGA, Clemson/USC, FSU/UF, BC/Syracuse) for a total of 16 games.
Big 10: 12 games
Big 12: 12 Games
SEC: 15 games (including the three today)
Including USC’s game today against Notre Dame, the PAC 10 plays 14 BCS caliber Non conference games:
The Big East plays more BCS teams on a per team basis, but they only play 7 conference games, they have a little more wiggle room to schedule the “tougher” opponents.
Disclaimer: The ACC has played rotten against BCS Conference Teams as has the Big East. But their schedule is not the problem.
Actually, I forgot two OOC games for the ACC.
Miami is playing South Florida and Wake Forest is playing Vanderbilt.
So ACC is playing 18 OOC games against BCS Conference caliber teams. an average of 1.5 OOC BCS games per team. More than the Big 12, Big 10, SEC and the Pac 10.
And yes, the Pac-10 deserves credit for playing a round Robin Schedule, or a total of 10.4 BCS caliber games per team.
The ACC is second, at 9.5 BCS Caliber teams.
Well, Michigan is getting beaten up by OSU again. Looked good in the first quarter but couldn’t put up the points.
Then again, BSU and Alabama were also both up 24-7 at halftime yesterday!
Boise claimed to be number one and deserving the BCS bowl , then get beaten by Nevada. That’s the last of their weeping about a lack of respect for this year.
Yesterday was a horrible day in college football for me. I was rooting for BSU and against Auburn and Oregon. I really hope that my Beavs beat the Oregon Sucks in the Civil War. If they do that, then TCU deserves a spot over them in the NC game because they beat those same Beavs earlier in the year. I can’t stomach the thought of Nike U vs. SEC champ in the BCS NC game because both couldn’t lose. I was rooting for BSU over TCU though, because I thought that BSU had a better shot at beating Oregon or Auburn. I think OSU has a puncher’s chance to shock the world against both Stanford and Oregon. They seem to play to the level of the competition this year; they beat USC and Arizona, but lost to UCLA, UW, and WSU.
Yeah, but their entire conference schedule is crap.
I acknowledge that ACC is in the middle of a down cycle, but as recently as two years ago, Sagarin rated the ACC as the third best conference. And last year, Sagarin rated them ahead of the Big 12 and Big 10.
This year, the ACC sucks, but both Colley and Sagarin rate the conference ahead of the WAC and MVC.
The WAC sucks every year.
Anybody know what time it is?
Good question.
It’s 4:07 PM here in Stillwater, OK…
AND OU STILL SUCKS!
I thought it was some lyrics from a Chicago song.
PS:
But I didn’t really care.
Its time for this:
“On Wisconsin, On Wisconsin, Grand Old Badger state
We thy loyal sons and daughters hail thee good and great - Uh Rah RaH!
On Wisconsin, On Wisconsin Champion of the right
Onward, our motto, God will give thee might!”
And, no, right does not imply ‘right wing’!
Ow
Left a TE wide open for a huge PA touchdown to go down by too much. Couldn’t get the onside back. Too many turnovers.
“Ever you’ll find us, loyal and true; to our Alma Mater, O-S-U.”
(And if we’re ranked ahead of the Aggies and the Sooners in the standings, we can still go to Jerryworld)
Jeez, I hate notre dame. I’m just thankful I didn’t take the invite and ticket, drive 5 hours in a snowstorm to sit thru that game in the rain, only to sleep on a floor and drive 5-7 back home in a snowstorm.
How 'bout that Nevada Wolfpack? And who is on Kyle’s suicide watch this hour?
Didn’t you hear?
Brotzman had the rope in the rafters around his neck, but couldn’t kick the chair out from under himself.
Bolding mine. Hell, they beat damn near *all *of them! Including the mighty Oklahoma in a bowl game!
I agree. They showed true championship material when they nutted up and got to the Nevada red-zone with 9 seconds left, had the head to call a time-out for the kick. Two missed kicks don’t prove they are a shit team of posers. They finally caught a couple bad breaks, very uncharesteristic of the last few seasons. Resulted in a loss in overtime. They shouldn’t fall behind a whole pack of other one-lossers. I’d put em behind Wisconsin, Ohio State and Mich. St, but still ahead of LSU.
I was really hoping they would get a shot at the title, but since Alabama handed the win to Auburn, I figured I might as well root for the home team (Nevada) and had a great night of fool-ball!
But OK State had the interception of the year, if it is any consolation.
I was in the can at the time, but caught the replay.
Absurd.
