What head coach in the FBS has the third longest tenure at the same school? Paterno and Bowden are obviously numbers 1 and 2, but I figure out who is number 3.
36-0 last year. Bama was simply not going to come all this way this season to get bitten by Aubarn.
Roll Fucking Tide.
Today the ACC sent its best teams to face some of the mediocre teams of the SEC… and they were found wanting.
IMO, mediocre teams in the SEC would contend for conference championships in most conferences.
Thanks to OU beating OkSU yesterday, Texas finally beat a team who has a win against a BCS Top 25 team.
All the teams wearing special new Nike uniforms yesterday had me confused. During the LSU vs. Arkansas game yesterday, I couldn’t tell if I was watching LSU or Tulsa.
Tennessee and LSU are your 2nd place teams.
That’s enough data to bring you back to reality, right?
I’m not sure what you are getting at. LSU has 3 losses, and they are to the current #‘s 1 and 2, and to Ole’ Miss, which was a pre-season top 10. Tennessee has a similar (almost identical, actually) record, except that they also lost a close game 2 months ago to UCLA. Is that what you are getting at? I would really love some clarification.
And each of those teams would most likely be conference champions in the ACC, the Sun Belt, the MAC, the WAC, the Conference USA, etc.
A loss to Ole Miss is nothing to point at with pride – their pre-season top 10 ranking appears to have been somewhat undeserved. LSU barely beat Washington (#9 in the Pac-10) and Tennessee lost to UCLA (#7 in the Pac-10) at home. I think what RaftPeople is getting at is…the SEC might have two very good teams, and everyone else is a (to put the best possible spin on it) a question mark.
Dear Gundy,
You don’t win in Norman by being conservative with a QB with a lingering injury. You pulled it off as an OC under Les because you were risky. The defense kept you in this one - the loss is on you.
Hire an OC already. Your playcalling was predictable and unsuccessful.
DS, who drove to Norman and back from Dallas to watch a game where we didn’t score or get a second half first down.
A few friends of mine made a pretty funny video recapping the Bama season so far. Anyone who’s been following the Alabama season should watch it for the intro alone. It should be played before every home game, imo.
Heh. Very funny. I love how each “game” in some way reflects the real game (the LSU shootout, etc.)
And Egan’s rules.
This weekend will damn fun - starting with the Civil War on Friday night (Saturday morning where I live - thank og for Justintv!). Then Fla-Ala, Cinn-Pitt, hell even Tex-Neb could be interesting depending on which Neb shows up.
And then comes the terrible withdrawls as we have to wait four weeks for another fix. And let’s not even think about what happens after Jan 7.
Btw, I just checked and it looks like two BCS bowls will be played in the Rose Bowl. Has that ever happened before?
I can’t wait for the Civil War on Thursday night. Go Beavs!
Interesting that undefeated Cincy and undefeated BSU aren’t getting any consideration for the NC game. If Nebraska upsets UT, then an undefeated TCU would probably get the nod against the SEC champ. Either Cincy or BSU will have beaten the Pac 10 champion, depending on who wins the Civil War. Undefeated and beat the champ of a BCS conference? That’s not good enough for the National Championship. Of course, TCU is undefeated and beat Clemson, who might be the ACC champ, too.
I’ve already created the Tim Tebow drinking game. Any time time anyone says “he’s such a competitor!” you drink.
In the ooold days, the football season ended before Thanksgiving, and the bowls didn’t pick up until a few days before New Year’s. So that was like 6 weeks cold turkey. This year, it’ll be more like 18 days (between Saturday’s finale and the Poinsettia Bowl).
Uh…the Civil War is Thursday night.
Since the NCG became a separate bowl game (3? 4? years ago), there are always 2 games in one of the 4 BCS stadia. I think this is the first year it’s rotated around to the Rose Bowl.
And let’s hear it for the Civil War…since there are no Ducks or Beavers around here, I’ll have to do. It’s the oldest continuously played rivalry west of the Rockies – 113 years, one year older than Cal - Stanford. This is the first time it’s been winner-take-all for the Rose Bowl; as a matter of fact, I can’t recall the last time any of the Pac-10 rivalry games has been "winner goes to the Rose Bowl (it was probably USC-UCLA). I think Cal-Stanford were in that situation in the 1950s.
My bad, you’re right it’s Thursday night. I guess I’ll be sitting at my desk watching it Friday morning. It will definitely be a hell of a game!
Au contraire.
Oregon State alum, here. Class of '92.
Go Beavs!
Awesome. You’re my 2nd favorite Pac-10 team…(since you got rid of Dennis Erickson)…I’m always impressed with the way Mike Riley gets your team playing better as the season goes along. You always stumble in September, then kick serious ass in November.
I didn’t go to U of Oregon, but I’m from a Portland suburb, with cousins in Springfield. I grew up rooting for the Ducks and still do.
I don’t follow them, but I root for Oregon St., too, as long as it’s not the Civil War.
The game Thursday is going to be great, be sure to watch, East Coast.
