Now boys, I am not without sympathy. I can imagine what such temperatures as the mainland is experiencing right now must feel like. That’s probably akin to when the air conditioning is turned on just a tad too high. That’s always brutal.
Lovely day today. The zoo has a new litter of African hunting-dog pups. A little on the warm side today, but in general this time of year is always most pleasant. Not too hot, although even in summer it’s generally not too bad, never having reached 100 degrees here. About a quarter to 8pm now and 76 degrees.
I hope the head banger is all right. With mainland temperatures right now, one’s head might just shatter.
This morning is warmer than yesterday’s low - it was 3° when I let the dog out, tho it might drop before the sun comes up. Theoretically it’ll break tomorrow and we’ll see 40s. Hope so!
Plans for today include emptying the closet in the blue bedroom so **FCD **can use the shelves in his shop and we can replace them with shelves that have a bar for hangers. The kids are going to have to deal with a single 4’ wide closet, but it will have 2 levels for hanging clothes, plus they can overflow into the baby’s room. Anyway, once the closet is done, all I have to do is get rid of the mattress set, launder the curtains, and clean the carpet, and that room will be ready. Still gotta empty more stuff from the baby’s room and disassemble the futon.
Thus beginneth my day. Happy Sunday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 26 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 50 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today we deheathenate (I have ush duty) followed by first Sunday brunch. There will also be a Baptism, twins, a girl and a boy. I like Baptisms even if’n they do make deheathenization longer. I shall also bake up the ham, mac ‘n cheese casserole this mornin’ before we head out. Afterwards, we need to stop at the sto’ for a few items. I need ‘nanners and yogurt in order to break fast durin’ the week and almost out of both.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification and casserole bakeage must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
I misread the digital thermometer - it was actually *MINUS 3° *when I let Higgs out, and it dropped to MINUS 4° as the sun was coming up.
Winter sucks.
But I showered, I scrubbed the shower floor (it’s easy using a scotchbrite sponge and my foot,) and I got dressed, mostly (still wearing slippers.) We had french toast for breakfast made with french bread. Yum. The dishwasher is swishing away, and the kitchen is more or less tidied.
I want a donut. That is all.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It was 2 degrees(Amurikin) when I took Gordie out, and it’s been below freezing since 12/31. If I wanted this, I’d move back to Wisconsin.
The sun is up and the temp has climbed to 5°. Forecast for Firday: 60°. Weird.
It was 14F when I took Nelson out this morning. Warming up, but still waaaaaaaay too cold.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasting and laughing at a puppy begging for teeny bites of bacon.
I took Gordie for his mid-morning walk. 18 degrees ,with a windchill of 9.
It’s a balmy 33F here in North Ali-bama this morning. Newspaper being read and Sudoku’s being solved (the last one is a toughie). I had signed up to referee one indoor soccer game this afternoon and ended up doing three. Oh well, I guess it is good for my health…
But breaking fast is next on the schedule.
My ruthlessness is waning. I’ve been sorting thru the last of the stuff in the blue bedroom closet. Some stuff was easy to toss or box up for the thrift store. Some stuff is FCD’s and he gets to make the call. Some is tough.
I have a whole bunch of framed family photos. We no longer have the space to hang them all like we did in our last house. Frankly, I don’t want them - I want to take the frames to the thrift store and toss the pictures. Except it feels wrong to throw away a photo of a long-dead grandmother. I’m thinking I’ll just find an envelope or something for the pictures, get rid of the frames, and let my daughter deal with them all when I’m dead.
Is that cruel??
I’ve accumulated too much crap.
I think I’ll bake some cookies instead.
No, cruel would be:
“I leave all of my wealth and earthly possessions to Flytrap. To my daughter, I leave this envelope of photographs of relatives I had no attachment to.
P.S. I ate her share of cookies before expiring.”
At least the Flightless Birds are sucking from what I read. ![]()
Probably. But substitute “cousin” for “daughter” and its the general solution I’m following. Who knows? Someone in The Next Generation may actually want the darn things.
Actually, once my daughter moves up here, I can show them to her and ask her. Easy-peasy.
First 2 pans of chocolate chip cookies are baking. I’ve got a few minutes to kill…
You will live to regret it.
Wait…
I’ve left something to flytrap in my will, too…all of my debts.
I bought my car new. During yesterday’s drive, on which it rolled past 130,000, I leart something new. The heater just can’t keep up in single digits. Knowing I’d be outside for parts of the day, I was dressed appropriately, in layers & fleece, w/ my jacket on the seat besides me. After about an hour in the car (heading north to pickup stuff for the knight) I was cold so I bumped the heat up a bit, something I ended up doing a few times, & put on my gloves & hat; all as I watched the outside temperature go down & down.
At 12:21, the temp was a sunny 5°F. Iffn I’m cold in the car, in the sun, how bad will it be out of the car, after dark, with the wind chills & w/o a jacket?
I’m sad to say, I reached my limit on the cold & [del]wimped out[/del] sensibly cxl’d. I wish there existed warm gloves w/ dexterity. ![]()
I did go run 4½ in the single digits this morning; my concession to the cold was I wore a l/s base layer instead of a s/s one.
Now I gotta get groceries, [del]watch handegg[/del] take a nap, & do other things.
Mom, It may have been explained and I missed it, or maybe not, but why are the kids moving in with you? Not judging, just nosy, and if it’s none of my business just say so.
As far as the pictures, I’d be hesitant. I used to have a picture of my paternal grandmother that I wish I could find.
Ya never know.
It is currently 43F with light rain here in Orygun. No brag, just fact.
Midget, glad you’re not dead.
Ruble, very cool abut the trikes.
**Bumba **- they’re relocating from Orlando back here after the baby comes. They’ll stay with us till they get jobs and decide where they want to live. They’d like to buy a house, so that my prolong their stay. They may get sick of us and opt to rent after all. We shall see. But they’ll be here a few months at least, possibly longer.
**FCD **has declared he wants to keep the pictures but he has yet to offer a suggestion as to where to keep them. We’ve pretty much run out of storage spots in the house, and photos probably wouldn’t fare well in the attic. If we de-frame them there’s probably enough space to slip them into hanging folders in the file cabinet, but no way we can store all those frames too. So, TBD.
Speaking of whom, he’s just headed to the convenience center with a bunch of trash and recycling from his shop. It’s looking really good down there. One monstrosity to get rid of and one more machine to be added, then he should be pretty much done.
I’m thinking it’s time to crochet in front of the TV.
Made it to the barn today since the temp is a balmy 24. I waved at Ariel in the pasture. Too windy to walk outside. My cough is lingering but I have more energy. Country ribs in the crockpot, kitteh on my lap, 3 new library books. Sunday afternoon iz gud.
77 degrees at 10:35am. We’re expecting to get into the 80s today, same as every day this time of year really. Will do some laundry. Our laundry area is on the roof, with plenty of clotheslines for hanging stuff up, but most things we put in the dryer. All three buildings in our complex are 13 stories tall, although the 13th floor in each is called the Penthouse floor even though the units are all exactly like the ones on the other floors. When we first moved in, I imagined there was something grand up there, The Penthouse, but that proved not to be the case. The elevator goes all the way to the roof, which is formally known as the Sundeck.
