Gone? In the possession of Adam Warlock? Scattered?
I too am curious
Gah! I know I read a synopsis of the Marvel character Moondragon which stated she was given the “mind” gem (meaning the gauntlet was broken up) but I can’t find it now.
In the current JLA/Avengers crossover, Darkseid had it but couldn’t use it in the DC universe. He threw it away, Flash caught it, and the Grandmaster ended up with it.
Immediately afterwards, they went into the possession of the Infinity Watch, who were supposed to guard against the Infinity Gauntlet being put back together again. Adam Warlock had the Soul Gem, Moondragon the Mind Gem, and Gamora (some green-skinned woman), Drax (looks like Hulk with a cape), and Pip the troll-thingy got the rest. Plus Thanos, who got the Reality Gem. Yeah, you read that right. He wasn’t an actual member of the team, and in fact no one besides Adam knew he had the gem.
But then it turned out that while he was a god, Adam Warlock had subconsciously expunged his good and evil side, making them into corporeal beings. His evil side, called Magus, caused a whole bunch of Bad Stuff to happen to trick Warlock into reconstituting the Infinity Gems (this was one of those multi-comic book crossover things). However, Warlock had actually put in a fake Reality Gem, and Infinity and Eternity (the embodiments of reality, as far as I can tell) blasted Magus into smithereens, after which Adam Warlock reabsorbed him into himself. After that, all the cosmic beings in the Marvelverse decreed that the Infinity Gauntlet would never again work, putting a stop to the plans of cosmic megalomaniacs. But everyone in the Infinity Watch got all their gems back.
That’s pretty much it as far as I know. Of course, that story is more than a decade old, and I haven’t kept up with the comic books, so I don’t know if Marvel ever did anything else with the Infinity Gems.
Immediately after Adam Warlock lost his godhood, I mean. At least I think it was immediately afterwards.
They also ended up in the “Ultraverse.” The now-defunct Malibu comics company had a line of “Ultra” comics, their primary titles being Prime (sorta a modern version of the Shazam! concept) and Ultraforce (an Avengers-esque team). The company was doing fine title-wise, but with poor sales in the '90s, it and all its properties were bought by Marvel around 1995 or 1996.
Bad move. The company was quickly “Marvelized” with numerous crossovers, culminating in a Avengers/Ultraforce event that somehow involved the Infinity Gems. To what capacity, I don’t recall, except that the end result had every Ultraverse title getting infused with Marvel characters. The books were quickly cancelled.
Except the aforementioned JLA/Avengers, I can’t recall seeing the gems since then.
As of Thanos #4, which came out last Wednesday, Galactus them.
Galactus has them.
How’d he get them?
“He gathered them” is about as specific as they got (apart from the soul gem, which one of his robots plucked off Goldilocks’s head.)
In all fairness, there’s not much Ol’ Hightpockets can’t do…
