Comic Stories that should be told in direct to DVD animated format?

The Ultimate Avengers seems to be doing fairly well. I’d like to see a few more comics stories jump on that bandwagon.

It is the perfect format for some stories. Especially more sophisticated (“PG-13”) fare.

I’d love to see DC/TW put out Kindom Come or the Golden Age as a direct to DVD animated feature. Maybe even Dark Knight Returns. (Watchman would need to be a serial release to get it right and that really goes against the direct to dvd format.)

For Marvel, maybe some of the Frank Miller Daredevil (Man Without Fear or Born Again) or Infinity Guantlet.

Any other stories or graphic novels that would fit the direct to DVD thing?

I wouldn’t mind Infinity Gauntlet.

Maybe an adaptation Days of Future’s Past (technically done somewhat in the 90s X-men cartoon)

I would love to see Red Son … but I’d watch Kingdom Come, too.

God Loves. . .Man Kills

The Byrne Generations books would make a great little series of movies.

I’d like to see the first Spidey-Supes Crossover.

The recent JLA/Avengers would be great

The X-men/Titans crossover would also rock.

Some of the Elseworlds would make good features.

Moving away from the superhero ghetto for a minute: Beto’s first story of Palomar, Heartbreak Soup from LOVE AND ROCKETS, Peter Bagge’s HATE, and Herge’s TINTIN would be great in animated format.

Kyle Baker’s I DIE AT MIDNIGHT.

Warren Ellis’ TRANSMETROPOLITAN – the whole series.

Also, Garth Ennis’s THE PRO would make a wickedly funny animated short.

Batman: The Killing Joke
Mad Love

With Mark Hamill as the Joker, of course.

Strike Mad Love ; I see it already has been done.

Would these be 2D or 3D?

I envisioned my picks as animated. But hey, all that gorgeous Latina pulchitrude in a live action Luba in Heartbreak Soup is cool wit’ me.

How about Bone? You could make the first story self-contained and if it is successful, you have great franchise potential.

It could either be CGI or traditional animation.

BONE is a great choice.
