Yeah!!! Thanks, that had been bothering me for a while.
It absolutely pains me to admit this, but the most recent Outback commercial has an incredible jingle. It sounds like the Beach Boys doing synth-pop, and it goes something like “You’ve got to cool your crazy (something)…” before segueing into “Let’s go outback tonight.” - I’d seriously straight-up buy the record if it was a real group and not a jingle.
I just love This Dwayne Wade Gatorare commercial, the way the nerdy Wade screams “do it again! do it again!” at the end just cracks me up.
I love the Ford Edge ads, especially the one with Ane Brun’s Song #6: “It would be so easy/To sing a song about you/”.
Thanks to you, John DiFool, I’ve found these ads again. They weren’t even for Tasters Choice.Romance in Coffee
That reminds me of this English Volkswagen commercial.
I like all of the Mac / PC ads. And I think I’m the only person on the planet who thought that the spongmonkeys were hilarious.
I'm also a sucker for anyhtin gwith a cute animal in it. Those damn Pedigree ads that she the dogs in the shelter break my heart, then they came up with a follow-up, where Archie, one of the pitiful little guys they showed in the original ad, was adopted. I love that one!
Back when I was in college, VW started a big advertising blitz, which contained some really good commercials.

The BASF tapes “Dear John” ad in the 1980s won international awards for the Kiwi firm who put it together, IIRC. Still a poignant classic (at least way down here!).
We’ve all seen the Trunk Monkeys, right?
I defy anybody not to fall in love with these Puma ads featuring the Jamaican relay team.
“Hold attention, mon… Gimme the stick!”
That’s actually Of Montreal’s “Wraith Pinned to the Mist” remade into a jingle for Outback (which pisses me off ever so slightly).
Same here. We always look for him. I came to like him even more than the Aflac duck.
Levi’s jeans had some cute ones. The Flat Eric series used to send me into laughing fits. And of course, Tainted Love.
In the '80s there was a Grape Nuts commercial that I saw once that still makes me chuckle.
Man and woman (presumably married) eating Grape Nuts for breakfast. The woman is chattering away about how good Grape Nuts are and how crunchy, etc. The man ignores her and just eats his cereal.
Until the woman mentions: “And the crunch still stands up when they’re sitting in milk!”
The man looks up, turns to her, and says “Wouldn’t you stand up if you were sitting in milk?”
That’s the one. Most definitive victory in a rock paper scissors match I’ve ever seen.
I haven’t. But I want one!
Ooh, ya, there’s been some good ones lately.
The Spiderfan Comcast one is good:
I love the look on the guy’s face and little suprised noise he makes when the Spideyguy tells him it’s a dog.
Amp’d Asian Rapping Guy one gets a chuckle-out-loud or better every time:
Most of the Fave Five ads from TMobile are funny:
Secret Lovers:
Uglier Friends:
There’s another one I can’t find at the moment with a creepy dad meeting his daughter’s date for the first time.
I like all the Caveman ones.
“Looks like someone got up on the wrong side of the rock.”
From the early 1990s we had a lot of hard sell to buy Instant Kiwi scratch lottery tickets. The ads that came from the campaign still have their charms.
That reminded me of the Avis rental car with XM Radio commercial with the 3 guys in suits lip-synching to a rap song. (For those interested, the song is Lumbajac’s “2 G’s.”)
It’s actually Rodney Allen Rippy. Here’s his website: http://www.rodneyallenrippy.net/
