Commercials you actually liked (found amusing etc.)

My favorite is the EDS “herding cats” commercial. What images! I remember wishing there was a longer version. I’d get the DVD. I’d watch the series…

I like the Dodge Avenger commercial which has a group of the cars on dynamometers and a technician in the control room remotely controlling the transmissions with a set of stick shifts. At first, he randomly revs the cars, then starts moving the stick shifts in sequence so the engine noises sound like “Smoke On the Water”. I swear, I started humming the song even before the cars began sounding the notes.

Here’s the commercial on YouTube:

This was one of those ads: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7771132941590161211

I loved them too!

That’s the one. I think they got the guy who went around in a truck holding up a sign saying “Show us your Lark pack” - he was the guy with the ciggy who put his hand on the shoulder of the pizza roll guy.

They don’t make them like that anymore. Johnny Carson showed it because it was so good.

Yay, beer!

My husband’s current favorite is the one with the two ninjas playing rock, paper, scissors. They go a couple of rounds and then one of them grabs his sword on the upstroke and chops the other one’s arm off on the downstroke.

I like pretty much every Mountain Dew ad I’ve ever seen, but the “Cheetah” ad is my all-time favorite.

This is a cute ad; it’s very well done too.

"What’s that say? I CAN’T READ!

It’s BACON! "

An ad famous in NZ still, for Toyota. Not for those offended by use of a certain word beginning with “b”.

Could someone please explain to the young’uns who Rodney Allen Ripley is/was? My Google-fu has failed once again.

There was an advert where a guy was chasing a cheetah and when he catches him says “You’re it!” I don’t remember what they were selling but I thought it was a cute ad.

What I like about that entire series is the continuity (sort of) of having the same older black guy at the very end of each spot. He’s everywhere! His expressions are perfect.

The current set of Clorox commercials have wonderful music:

Clorox Pirate

Clorox Mermaid

And here’s a nature slideshow somebody made with extended version of the music.

Rodney Allen Ripley was basically a little black boy who would sing about Jack in the Box and laugh.

Last week I saw an ad with a 20-something guy standing against a white background and looking through a Penthouse-type magazine. He stared at one photo for a few seconds, flipped through to look at the centerfold, then closed the magazine and said, “nope, still gay.” At which point a big red “REJECTED” stamp appeared over him.

Voiceover: Wondering why e-Harmony rejected you? Try chemistry.com.

That one made me laugh out loud.

squeeee thank you! I haven’t heard that song since… well, the 80s.

This ad for Starburst Berries n Cream gets me everytime.

Also, I agree with those who mentioned the Hooray Beer and Slowskys ads.

Rodney Allen Rippy

There are a couple of phone ones - the series with the “wheel of adjectives” and “practice family” are fun.

Also the new phone series with “your calls will be the same - just clearer”. No clue which phone company it is. But I do like the commercial.

I really get a giggle out of the Don’t mess with karma recycling ads they have on nowadays.

Ooh cool - Google has the whole set
