I’ve only caught this ad one time, but I gave it a standing ovation…
It was for a Melitta Mini coffee maker.
Scene opens with a lady in a bathrobe in the kitchen making coffee in the Melitta Mini (one minute brew time). Male voice from next room “Honey I’m ready” she gives him the just a minute routine a couple of times then gives in and goes to the other room. As she is going through the door she drops the robe. She is then back rolling her eyes to the male voice talking about how great it was just as the mini finishes making the coffee.
I think I was watching FoodTV at the time. Have not seen this spot again since (even though I watch that station a lot).
A lot of good ones have already been mentioned. Two that I believe haven’t been are long running series that are still amusing; the M&M’s and Bud Light’s “Real Men of Genius”. Both true classics.
There’s also a local car dealership, Friendly Honda, that’s done a good series of radio ads.
There’s a really good one now for some insurance company that uses an altered b/w clip from ‘Lassie’ in the 50’s, where she and Timmy (?) are threatened by a mountain lion. At first, Lassie makes appropriate barking noises, but then jumps up on her hind legs and does a few kung-fu poses, including a 360 degree ‘Matrix’ turnaround. (Quick shot of the cougar, jaw dropping in disbelief) Lassie lands on her back feet after the turn, and with her front paws, is seen to beckon to the cougar, as if to say, “Bring it on, kitty.” Cougar turns and runs away. I should tape this one.
I hate the DirectTV ones where they have celebrities reading off letter from supposed customers. They sound so corny!
Also, I am greatly disturbed by the Crest WhiteStrips (I think) commercial where the woman falls asleep and dreams about a never-ending line of William Shatner’s doing Riverdance.
I miss the Geico commercials with the gecko. The new ones just suck.
Apparently they are real letters from real customers. There was a news story about someone finding the guy with the colt named after the football player.
Some others I thought of, mainly in the hate category :
Those AOL broadband commercials where they attach the AOL superspeed device to the car and the guy goes back in time.....very dumb. There are others similar, all dumb. And to think they wasted Superbowl ad money on those.
Any of those 10-10-whatever commercials. They're all dumb. Every single one of them.
I hate the Geiko commercials. Old new, whatever...don't like them.
The ones I do like are the Guiness commercials about St. Patrick's day where they act like its Christmas. Those are great.
Creepiest of all are those Viagra commercials featuring all the guys in a suburban neighborhood running down the street, yelling and cheering and high-fiving each other to the tune of Queen’s We Are the Champions. Especially the old guys. <shudder>
Some mini van that has doors that open up on both sides , first commercial has several mischievious children throwing snow balls,and the dude opens both doors and voila , the kids get smacked with the others snowballs and vice versa.
The second has some kid hosing his sisters with a water hose then running for the relative safety of the van , only to realize that he forgot to lock the other door.
For Fem hygiene products , there is a school room where one girl passes the object in question to another girl, and the teacher says you can have em, if you have enough to share with the class , and the girl goes , only the girls
That lending tree commercial already mentioned , with the guy whose up to his eyeballs in debt
A Ford commercial for the F-150 i think , where a chevy is pulling a boat out of the water and then loses it and sinks , guy in ford truck is shakin his head going , yup like a rock.
commercial thats only good once , is a jetta commercial i think , with everyone waving to this car as it passes , cuts to a shot of the two people in front wondering ,and then eventually to the back seat as the kid is waving to every one in site.
There are threads on this board that explain what a hemi is without too much technical mumbo-jumbo.
I’m only responding because I love the term “Massive, Unnecessary Vehicle”. Now I’m sitting here trying to think of a synonym for massive that starts with an S. So far I’ve only come up with supermassive, but I’ve only ever heard that word used to describe black holes.
Most movie trailers I love…I like the excedrin commercials "you get tension headache…you take tension headache.
I like the newest coke commercial with the woman walking down the street singing.
I like the kid from the SMART AND FINAL commercials.
I kind of like the citibank “Thank You” commercials.
I hate alot of commercials too just can’t think of any right now.
