Yeah, calling someone a troll (in a really large font, bolded with a few exclamation marks thrown in to boot) in GD was probably not the brightest thing to do, even if it’s true. That Troll!! sort of came out of the blue, but then the poster in question is fairly bizarre even at the best of times.

It’s interesting. It’s against the rules in GD to accuse a poster of lying, but there’s really no other way to read such a wilfully and obviously trolling post as this. Not only is Commy not even pretending to add anything to the thread, literally every part of the claims he makes are blatant lies, and so blatant that there is literally no possible way that he can actually believe them.
It’s somewhat confusing as to why he’s been allowed to troll for so long when it was months ago that the mods realized what he is.
I seem to remember that the troll in question was required by the mods to post something articulate to show that his positions were something more than simple trolling, or he would get banned. He appears to have recognized that this was an empty threat and ignored it.
Sometimes the moderation around here makes no sense at all. We have several posters jumping up and down screaming “I’m a troll! I’m a troll! Look at me - I’m trolling!” and nothing happens.
It’s ridiculous.

True. Unfortunately for you, however, it is not against the rules to point out a poster’s ignorance on a given topic. And, face it, the average member of an isolated tribe that has zero contacts with the outside world likely knows more about international law than you do. If you don’t wish your ignorance to be pointed out, than don’t engage in debates on topics you know absolutely zilch about. Whining about it ex post facto is neither impressive nor effective.

What I find particularly mind-boggling is that you seem to genuinely believe that you are qualified to make definitive determinations as to who does or does not qualify as an “actual Russian” based on nothing more than minimal Internet-based interaction. Wow. How does one develop such delusions of grandeur, anyway? Are they based on mental defects, or can an otherwise-healthy individual somehow learn to harbor them in good faith? Maybe a combination of the two? Personally, I have never been able to wrap my mind around the existence of such profoundly delusional arrogance among functional human beings.

Funny thing is I know a lot of Russians, from Russia within the last few years. And not one of them sounds anything like Commissar AT ALL. In fact, they sound like most Americans I know and not one of them could give a rat’s ass about Communism. They bitch about their government. We bitch about our government. We think we are the greatest on the planet. They think they are the greatest on the planet. People are people by and large.
Commissar seems to be a caricature of Communist from 30 years ago.
What I find mind-boggling is that someone who was brought to the US as a young child, and is a citizen of the US, and is a voter in the US, should still, somehow, believe that his support of Chinese and North Korean Communism does not require his movement to either one of those countries and his support of them. Instead, we get a, “I can do better than being an English teacher.”
It’s readily apparent that no quasi-Communist country has any more interest in Commissar than we do.
Er, I never claimed to be an average ex-Soviet Republic person, nor to represent the political mainstream in any of the resulting 15 states. Your experience is not that unusual; I myself have no Communist relatives, and only a few of my Russian-speaking friends are Communists. Clearly, I am not some sort of spokesman for the majority here.
Nevertheless, you should not be that quick to dismiss the continuing presence of Communist thinking in present-day post-Soviet society. You specifically chose Russia, so let’s use that as a baseline. You may be surprised to know that the Communist Party of the Russian Federation is the most popular opponent to the current ruling party. You may also be surprised to learn that, in the most recent elections, some regions saw the Communist Party receive upwards of 20% or more of the popular vote. Finally, you may be shocked to learn that more than 10% of the Russian Duma is comprised of Communist Party members.
Hence, while you should not assume that I represent average Slavs, it would be ignorant to dismiss the continuing role of Communism in modern post-Soviet society.

But why does my position surprise you? Actually, let me guess… There is a worrying trend I often notice among Westerners, wherein they tend to view Communists as some type of pre-programmed lemmings. Such Westerners believe that they know precisely how a Communist should act in all situations and at all times.
Let me disabuse you of that notion here and now. We Communists are human beings, much like you and other posters on these boards. We have our own goals, dreams, personalities, and whatnot. We are not obligated by some unwritten law to flock to Marxist-Leninist lands. I don’t know you, but I would bet that you would not, for example, tell a non-churchgoing Christian that this somehow makes him a non-Christian. People differ, and these differences are not erased by a shared ideology. Whereas some Communists may well choose to teach English in the PRC or whatnot, this alone does not entitle you to command all Communists to teach English in the PRC or forfeit their Communism. That’s ridiculous.
This is what keeps him alive. “Troll” isn’t probably the best term for problems like Commisar. “Parasite” seems more apropo. If you all REALLy would like him to shut up and go away, why not just ignore him? It seems like he just feeds off all this attention, however derisive it may be.:rolleyes:
