My quicktime plugin for IE just died - I tried uninstalling/reinstalling quicktime, but no luck. I deleted the quicktime stuff from the IE plugins folder and reinstalled - no luck. I didn’t do anything (I swear!)! Is there a screwed registry key or something that I can do to get it working again?
I’m running Win2k and whatever the latest version of IE is (I check in to Windows Update often).
There is a known problem with Quicktime and IE 5.5 with service pack 2. There was something about this on slashdot.com a few days ago but I couldn’t find the link.
Having used their monopoly to beat Netscape into oblivion, Microsoft has now abandoned the Netscape plugin format without informing any other software developers ahead of time. (Could it be that Microsoft is attempting to extend their monopoly to include media players? Perhaps they want you to switch to WMP? Shocking, I know…)
At any rate, Apple has responded and has posted details on how to update QuickTime on their website. The solution is but a few mouse clicks away…
Thanks Mojo the Monkey I really appreciated that. Been tackling with this a couple of months and didn’t find anything from QT pages myself. Now I can watch trailers again…
