And, I am now officially even more on call than I already was. Local Best Friend has started having contractions. Probably. Wimpy ones. She’s at work for another 1/2 hour, then she’s going home and when Mom starts getting on her nerves, she’ll call me so that I can come remove the parents from her home for a while. She’s guesstimating that it’ll be tomorrow morning. So, hopefully there’s good news coming soon… (Everyone start sending good thoughts and prayers our way, please, for a quick and easy delivery!)

I know what a guidewire is–it’s a small sterile length of wire used for invasive procedures such as a central line or hemodynamic catheter in pts. You find your landmarks, insert a needle, draw back on the syringe to check for blood return, remove the syringe, push the guidewire through the needle, remove the needle, push the introducer over the guidewire, widen the insertion point slightly with a scalpel, pull off the introducer then thread the indwelling catheter over the wire*.
*ok, I didn’t add a few things, like consent, and local anesthestic and sterile technique–details! I’ve assisted in about a thousand of these in my nsg career.
And now back to the show.
Well, I got a new turtle. I went to Petco to get some replacement filters for my filter for my turtle, Sherman, when some gal comes in. She says she’s moving and asked the store if they want a turtle. They don’t, but…well…I had some tank room, so I took in the turtle.
Sherman is a mean motherfucker, so he’s kicking the new turtle’s ass all over the tank. I haven’t yet come up with a name. I was thinking about “Doug” or “Harold/Harald” or “Bruce”.
In case anybody is wondering (it seems like a surprising number of you are) I’m still at my brother’s place, and am hitting the road again tomorrow morning. Something I ate last night made me feel kinda crappy for most of the day but I’m better now. It’s a shame, because it was really tasty, and I don’t normally react to food like that. Oh well, I did absolutely nothing today and I feel much better than I did earlier.
I’m going to be really happy to have all this driving stuff over with!
How about Peabody?

Sherman got his name because in an old tall hexagonal tank, he’d plow through the plastic plants like a Sherman tank.
even tho it’s a male turtle (which I’m guessing based on the names you’ve picked out) what about Myrtle, Tommy, or heck, Michaelangelo, Rafael, or whatever the heck the other two TNMT are called.
I would have added that part except for the no smooching rule. That rule really cramps my style.

Li-Li and I wrestled with a camera for 15 minutes before we figured out how to set the timer. I’ll put pics up when I get home. I had a lovely time and Li-Li and I had a comfy chat with two cats to chaperone us. And I ate buttertarts and poutine. Wasn’t able to finish the latter, unfortunately. Canadian portions are too overwhelming for this small Asian person. Hah.
Feet ache so much! After the TronnaDope (which was full of fun and food) I met up with an acquaintance - I told him I wanted to meet up for a drink or something, but he insisted on showing me the city. I was already pretty tired from being on my feet all day, but didn’t want to be ungrateful or rude. Gah.
Must stumble off to bed. Miss you all - sorry I’m not able to catch up this week!
Hi, all. <yawn> I should go to bed, but I’d really like to get just a bit more work done tonight. Alas, instead of working, I got hooked on the addicting game of the century and have been spending the evening watching things like the new Mythbusters and playing the game. Badly. But at least, before I got totally hooked on the game, I got started on a pretty but really quick-knitting feather-and-fan pattern for a scarf, so presumably I can pop one out in a couple of days. We’ll see how it looks, and then if I can come up with a matching hat pattern. Or maybe I’ll just knit a bunch of scarves for now; they’re quick and easy and the patterns are usually nicely repetitive. And they should sell well, going into fall. So we shall see.
Don’t you kids mess up this room tonight, do you hear me? I don’t want to see toys and whipped cream and who knows what else spread all over everywhere when I come back here in the morning!

Well, I have soon-to-be grandparents taking refuge at my house. Little brother has been exiled to the living room futon. (Futons are really marvelous things. I can house 5 extra people here in actual beds in case of emergency; well 6 really, but only if I’m willing to share my own bed). I’m hoping baby shows up quickly, cuz I really need to be at work part of the day tomorrow.
Of course, now everyone’s in bed and I’m awake… Hopefully I’ll get to sleep in in the morning.
