Cones on the Loose - an orange MMP

Glad you made it safely to Idaho. Only and hour and a half to go then you’re home!

We left Sunbanks Resort at 9:30 this morning and only stopped once for gas, and once a rest stop to use the bathroom. We were home by 1:30. The trip home seemed much faster than the trip out there.

At any rate, we’re all glad to be home. Showers have been taken by all, and soon we’ll start unloading the boat and Expedition. I am TAHRED though, and if weren’t for the food still in the cooler, I’d say screw it and wait until tomorrow. Unfortunately, I’ll have to cook up some sort of dinner. We didn’t eat breakfast or lunch, unless you count a Quaker Breakfast cookie and some coffee.

I’m seriously considering ordering pizza.

This should give you and idea of how tired I am. I put on my husband’s glasses this morning. I drove the boat to the launch, loaded it on the trailer, and rode all the way home wearing them. I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t see correctly and why I was getting a headache. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized I had his glasses on. :smack:

Well, off to start unloading stuff.

lapinblanc Salt Lake is something special - did you come through on I-80 from Park City? 'Cos if you did factor in winter when there is 3 inches of snow and visibility is about 50 ft and people are still driving 75 mph in their 4X4’s and it equals wacky races!

I used to drive down there sometimes yelling, “Can’t you see the plates I am from Wyoming LEAVE ME ALONE!”

Fun times

According to my computer it is 7:21pm. It is still 100 degrees out there. I am ready for winter. Never mind fall, I want cold.

Libby’s white cell count is up a bit more, but I’m not sure if that means her bone marrow is producing or just that what she has is fighting off infection. Her kidneys do seem to be working a bit better. It’s sad when I go in to see her and have to inspect all the drainage bags and stuff to see what is going on. The doctors didn’t have much to say today; we’re just in a wait and see pattern. I’ll go back up there tomorrow, probably during the afternoon instead of the morning. I am having a drink or three tonight. Everything I have touched today has turned to crap, so I am turning to alcohol for comfort. Mr. SCL is at work.

I wish there were some way I could express how much I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Every time I see Libby’s name on the screen it reminds me that I have friends who are behind me in this, even if we have never met. If I ever win the lottery we are going to have one hell of a MMP-fest!

Off to mix another drink and take a bath. I’ll be back with the obligatory drunken post later.

I’m skipping over the rest of the MMP to respond to that. I bet you could get laid in that whore house…You see, what men don’t understand about (most) women is this: you can be the best kind of eye candy and have a nice sized er, package and all, but that isn’t what’s most important. You need this:

The ability to look a woman in the eyes, sincerely and genuinely and say, “Here, let me do that.” Best aphrodisiac on earth. Note there is no whining, no hidden expectation of great reward or praise–just, “here, let me do that.” Trust me–that will get you laid in more than one house.

In other news, I just want you all to know that I will not let my husband guilt me into going staff again, just to have a smaller health insurance premium. He’s all grumpy etc because we had to pay the COBRA (he insisted, not me). Now he’s grumbling about not being in control of the finances (he’s a CPA and a CFO).

all together now:

Great day at work-love my new job (for the most part). Off to do Friday night things (ie laundry). <sigh>

WTF is up with Mother Nature?
Wednesday was a dog-day August summer day, yesterday was very spring-like and today felt like November! Tomorrow is supposed to back up in the 80s and sunny - which is good, because I’m going to a bbq* in the afternoon

Heff-a-Roo - Little Boxes was written (by Malvena Reynolds) and recorded (by Pete Seegar) long before some of the stars of Weeds were even a twinkle in theor mothers’ eyes

  • here in the North, barbeque equals grilled burgers and dogs with lots of mayonaisse based salads, accompanied by sodas and beerverages. The more creative types include actual green salads and raw veggies as well as ribs and chicken. But I’ve yet to see a northern bbq include real southern barbeque on the menu

Yep; I could have gone around, but decided not to. And you’d think they’d spot the Maryland plates and give me a bit of room, but no, they didn’t. I’ve driven in worse spots, but it was still rather impressive.

LiLi you can come walk on my lawn, I just got done mowing and it’s all cushy and smells nice right now.

:: lights bag of burning poop and knocks on FCM’s door ::

I skipped outta the office at about 2:30, but brought a bunch of things home to work on tonight, so … meh.

It’s 85 here now, which means with the humidity means it feels about 139 degrees amurkin in the sun. The sun being where I cut the grass.

Then tossed some bacon salt coated tenderloin on the grill and had that with some tater (N.O.T.) salad.

Between the big, mean workout at the gym, followed by the mowing, I am in serious need of ye olde ice bag on my knee. Even more in need of a good shower though. Even Cuervo is looking at me funny, I must stink.

Here, let me lift my arm and wave some stinkness around…is it as bad as Cuervo says?

We had bacon salted steaks, broccoli, and garlic toast for dinner. Bacon salt is good on steak and broccoli, but even better on garlic toast. Yummy!!

I’m glad to see you’re safely in Double Falls, Alabaster Bunny. My friend Maggie says you should have just gone on to your new home today, but I told her you wanted to do the drive in daylight just to see what you’ll be facing in the winter. Makes sense to me, anyway! And definitely check out the shopping. Since that will now be the “big city” you have to go to get stuff. Thank heaven for the internet; it spares me sending you lots of care packages. Like you used to send me Community Coffee from Louisiana. ( ← evil grin since she only managed to send me coffee once in nearly two years in spite of all my begging!)

I haven’t driven into Salt Lake on I-80, but I have driven west into Billings, Montana, which is really, really gorgeous. Probably not as much fun as driving (with me behind the wheel) into L.A. in a fully loaded 23-foot U-Haul truck towing my car, though. Although I knew the theory of the importance of downshifting when going down a long slope rather than braking (having been lectured by my dad about that throughout my childhood as we watched tourists burning out their brakes in the Rockies), it was nevertheless my first opportunity to put it into practice where it really, really mattered. That drive isn’t nearly as scary in a car; my respect for truckers who do that kind of thing for a living grew by a factor of about 1000% percent in the space of about an hour that day.

My case of the Don’t Wannas is just getting worse. I have stuff I should be doing this evening. Heck, even knitting! Instead, I"m just sitting here staring vacantly at the computer or the TV. I sure wish something would give me a little energy/incentive because right now I’m definitely lacking in either.

I wasn’t going to go all the way. For one, I had a hotel room reserved and if I hadn’t showed up I’d still have been charged for it. For two, I hit the road at about 5 AM and got into my room at 4 PM. Plenty of daylight left, yes, but no energy!

Thanks, MBG. At least someone loves us kids. (Counting days until 29th birthday dubiously)

We went out for dinner with my parents, and now I’m all full of Chinese buffet food. We’re about to watch some Doctor Who and then probably go to bed early. I think we’re old and boring. Bed at ten on a Friday?

I thought about the alliteration, but I don’t know why “Bumpy Rob” works so well. Oh well.
Also, stop hiding cameras in my house,** welby**. My adult diapers and bottle are my business and my business only!
smears vaseline all over FCM’s doorknob

I’ve had dinner and beer, and I’m listening to Radio Margaritaville. Life is good.

Glad you made it lapin blanc. I did ten hours to Hazzard Ky., and that’s all that I could do.

LiLi, you’re not truly old till you have the morning after without the night before.

MBG:

rigs, I thought the ultimate aphrodisiac was “Yes, dear.”

kai, good luck with the birth.

you’re a Parrot-head? (I fixed your link)
I just gave my nephew and niece-in-law a combo anniversary-winter holiday-birthday gift - tickets to see Buffet at Madison Square Garden in September. He told me they were going to see him in Providence (or somewhere neear there) in a week or two, I said “oh, well then you don’t need to see him in NYC” knowing full well what his reaction would be. Needless to say, they are very happy with the gift.

Well, I survived the fine needle biopsy okay. laughs It really wasn’t that bad, just very anxiety-producing! My throat is very scratchy, raw and sore, so I’m just gonna take it easy this weekend; probably the only thing I’ll do is my usual trip to the grocery store. Now I get to wait until my endocrinologist calls with the results.

Congrats to WelbyDaughter on her US Citizenship!!

Hey, I’ll take some of that baklava too, LiLi - that’s some good stuff.

wanders off to find a popsicle to soothe the throat

Before I forget, I believe Saturday is Dotty’s birthday…so:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Dotty!!!

We finally have baby here. She’s a little girl, 6 lbs 10 oz. Very cute. We were all getting really worried because she was supposed to be here early this afternoon. She took her time and got here at 5:30. The grandparents were going crazy with worry and were very relieved to finally hear that she’d arrived. We had to wait for everyone to get a bit cleaned up, but we got to visit for about an hour. Local Best Friend looked pretty whipped.

Glad you’ve made it to Idaho, finally, Alabaster Bunny.

I’m sleepy…so I guess I’ll wander off to beddy-bye.

GT

Morning all! Yes, today is my birthday. On this day 34 years ago, my long-suffering mother brought her fourth child into this world and said, “That’s enough now thank you. Four children under the age of five is insane. No more!!!” (I may be paraphrasing just a little)

Soooo, the song today is fairly self-evident …

[singing]
Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday to me
Happy Birthday dear Dotty
Happy Birthday to meeeeeeeee!!![/singing]

I am sooooo behind with everyone’s comings and goings, so to avoid missing anyone, I will just miss everyone, other than to say congrats on the new bub gt, and fingers crossed for a baby soon kai - yaknow, I had mine induced and from the artificial rupture of the membranes and syntocinon drip starting, it was all over in 7 hours. And Noor’s head hadn’t even engaged when they broke my waters - it was a Hollywood-style gush of liquid!!!

Just to further improve her immunity to various ills, Noor now has a head-cold (upper respiratory tract infection, I think), so she is getting dosed up with Baby Panadol every 4-6 hours, plus spritzes of saline nasal spray to help clear the mucus. Fortunately, the doctor also gave us a nasal decongestant to give her at night, which helps clear her head and helps her sleep. Combine that with a Vicks-Vapour-Rub-soaked tissue inside her night-shirt and she actually slept better last night than she has in quite a while - didn’t wake me up 'til 6:00am!! Woohoo!!!

Okay, off to make more coffee.

Happy Birthday Dotty!

I’m just skimming through as I just got in this evening. I wasn’t here for 10 minutes before my sister, niece and nephew all came over too. Everyone wants a piece, sheesh!

Will post pics n’ stuff later, when I’ve got more time and I’m not so sunburnt and mosquito-bitten and tired. waves

Happy Birthday Dotty!

:::birthday snoopy dance::: for Dotty’s birthday. And hopefully Snoopy won’t eat all the cake.

Er. . . isn’t that #301?

swampy, you’re a busy bear lately. I hope you still have enough time to play.

Lili, sometimes there’s a fine line between bravery and recklessness. Your situation wasn’t that close. You did the right thing.

Yeah, Lili, in the olden days when kids had to walk to school in the snow. . .uphill. . . backwards . . .for miles, they couldn’t even tell the sex of the baby even AFTER it was born. Whippersnappers!

How come you had to add that last part? You don’t mention when you’re breathing or when you’re human. Same thing, right?

{{{SCL}}}, sorry you’re having a bad day. I hope things get better for you and Libby.

That’s the new thing I learned today. Interesting.

MBG, thunk. . . you could at least warn us before you do that.

Wouldn’t that depend on the question? Don’t ever try that with, “does this make me look fat?” :stuck_out_tongue:

Herbs, good for you on making it through the biopsy. Good luck on getting some good results.

Dotty, here’s my song for tonight. Maybe you can sing it to baby Noor. . . or not depending on how you’re feeling today. I hope you’re having a great day.

[Jim Croce] If I could save Time in a bottle
The first thing that I’d like to do
Is to save every day
Til Eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you[/Jim Croce]
And we’re into the weekend. Have a great one everyone! Good night!

Work, well, it was. With all the heat and hyooomidity here, let’s just say I’m glad I did not get scheduled for this weekend. Ol’ y’all know who has to work in the mornin’ ( :frowning: ) so he’s not here but will be tomorrow afternoon. Plans are for hangin’ at the pool, just the two of us.

I know I should be respondin’ to some specific things, but, well, I’m tahred and have had a few beerverages, so I can’t remember what.

Thus, da bear is off to bed.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Where’s Haze? She posted earlier from Toronto, but I haven’t seen her in a couple days. Calling Haze!
