Cones on the Loose - an orange MMP

I forgot the most important thing that happened today: I saw the Empress of the Universe driving down the road in her car!

How did I know it was her, you might ask? Well, it was easy – her license plate had a couple of numbers followed by MOOOO!

OK, I’ll know who to believe next time.

Awww, :::group hug:::. . . so many people having a great day today. FCM and the welbys on the boat, Haze coming back from her trip, rosie having a great day at a party, pale bunny loving her new place, Mamatigs having some decent weather. And it’s been a pretty good day for me too.

Herbs, I’m glad you’re feeling better. My throat was a tad bit scratchy this morning too. It was my good excuse to do nothing today.

SCL, sorry to hear about the continued difficulties for Libby.
**
Dotty**, ~waving~ , I hope you’re enjoying your birthday weekend. Wow, that formula sure sounds expensive. That’s the cost of one meal for an adult in a tin. Have a great morning!

My song to you tonight/morning is an odd one. But it popped into my head, so it’s the song of the night/day. . . Sail On by the Commodores.

[Lionel Richie]Sail on, down the line
About half a mile or so
And I don’t really wanna know ah
Where you’re going
Maybe once or twice you see
Time after time I tried
Hold on to what we got
But now youre going
And I don’t mind
About the things youre gonna say
Lord, I gave all my money and my time
I know it’s a shame
But I’m giving you back your name
Guess I’ll be on my way
I won’t be back to stay
I guess I’ll move along
I’m looking for a good time[/Lionel Richie]

Have a great night all! Nighty-night!

I changed my mind. I think I’m going to do the feather-and-fan again with the Mojave Desert yarn; it’s just a bit too busy a color pattern to take quite that much lace pattern. So I’ll use a solid navy wool yarn for the horseshoe lace and see what happens.

My life is full of such major quandaries!

Morning all! ::waves to Roo::

{{{SCL}}} I hope Libby can get the pain relief she needs to make it through this peacefully.

Haze, glad you’re back safe from the wilds of Canadia!

palebunny, enjoy your new home. I hear the skiing can be pretty good in Idaho. I once dated a very attractive young man from Idaho (many moons ago, when I was young and attractive myself!).

I think it will be October before the temperatures here start to drop. We generally run about 6 months (April to October) of rather warm months (aka daily highs between 90-120F) and 6 months of varying degrees of bearable weather (daily highs between 60-90F). Winter is when you drop the top on your convertible, if you have one! But for the time being, we just avoid going outside during the day, mainly 'cause Noor can’t cope with the heat.

Oky-doky, today’s song is another blast from the past (heard the elevator-music instrumental version yesterday in the bathroom at the restaurant where we had lunch).

[ABBA]Can you hear the drums Fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
In the firelight Fernando
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar …[/ABBA]

Okay - off to tend to HRH. Be good all you night-owls!

ETA: MamaTigs, I envy you and FCM for the whole creative thing - I am too left-brain myself (thanks Dad!!!), but my Mum used to make clothes for us and knit and everything when we were kids!

palebunny is actually living in the little town the serves the Sun Valley ski resort, so there’s definitely some excellent skiing there! In fact, looking at places to live, we figured one was being offered by someone working on the slopes since one of the perks was a free season pass. Not a bad deal for a skier! Which none of us are, alas. I’ve never been on skis, and now with my new knee my doctor would utterly kill me if I tried; Papa Tigs has cross-country skied but his one attempt at downhill ended up with him smashing into cars in the parking lot <snerk>, and what with palebunny’s various physical issues, she’d be crazy to try it, too. Although she could probably do some cross-country skiing – once she gets used to the altitude. And once it snows, obviously.

I haven’t been downhill skiing in about 10 years and, to be honest, I was never very good at it. But, it was a lot of fun. Cross-country skiing is a lot more hard work. I did a bit of cross-country when I was in Germany as an exchange student (about 16 years ago now - God, am I that old???), and I found it was a great workout for the butt!

HRH is asleep again now, snuffling quietly in her cot! Poor little thing - it sometimes seems like it’s just one thing after another health-wise for her. At least she’s not running a fever and (touch wood) this head-cold should clear up pretty quickly. I read somewhere that she will probably have about 10 of these headcolds by the time she’s 2 years old. Gah!

Okay, now I have to go wash bottles, ready for more expensive formula!

Had an almost pretty-good night. Almost. I woke up just before 4 with a tickle in my throat that led to a bout of coughing. Then I was joined by Miss Brandy who decided that since I was awake, I should be giving her skritches. Under the covers. But she tired of that after about 15 minutes and left, and I was able to suppress the coughing and fall back asleep till a little after 6. It’s 58 degrees out and gloriously cool in the house. We’re heading back to the 90s today, but I’ll enjoy the coolness while I can.

We need to run back to the boat - we kinda forgot to close 2 of the thru-hull valves. Not a crisis - generally we don’t bother closing them till we winterize, but **FCD ** decided he wanted to make closing them a habit. Yesterday it was half a habit. I got the 2 aft valves, but not the 2 up forward.

I plan to add details to the remaining un-decorated monster, then put underglaze on the monster and dog that have dried. I think I may roll out a thin slab and make some medallions also. If I can figure out how to keep sand out of the glaze, I think they’ll be really nice.

I’m hungry. I dunno if **FCD ** plans to take me out for breakfast. So I shall suffer… alas… Pity me… woe…

Up and caffeinated and off to work. It’s only going to be 92 today, OH Joy!

Rosie, I was awakened by a siren cat at 0300. It wasn’t a dream.

Have a good day, Dotty, I hope Noor feels better.

At least once.

Dotty, thanks for the song. I know that one. Should I be admitting that?

Yow, your temperatures are HOT dring the summer. . . 90-120F?! I guess I need to stop complaining about our weather. I don’t think it ever made it to 120F! Your winters sound kinda nice, though.

And we’re happy about that too.
I’m up and it looks like it might be a beautiful morning. We’ll see as the day wears on. Happy Sunday everyone! Be good.

Morning, all. I’m caffeinating, but I’ not sure it’s going to do any good - I had an awful night. Tossed and turned and slept horribly, had awful dreams (that I don’t remember), and generally had a miserable time of it. I’m kind of glad it’s daytime now, so I can start over and try again tonight.

Papa Tigs took the Idiots to the beach this morning. Isaac tried to express dominance to a Jack Russell terrier, and got nipped on the nose for it, and of course instantly went back to cower behind Papa Tigs. Hee! Cowering away from a dog 1/4 his size! Rusty later stole the Jack Russell’s toy, a rubber chicken wearing a pink dress; Papa Tigs wrestled with him over it for a couple of minutes, and ended up having to dunk his head underwater to get him to open his jaws and let go of it. Stoopid dogs! But everyone had a good time. And since the Jack Russell had been the first one to growl at one of our dogs, her owner wasn’t upset that Isaac growled back, fortunately. I guess when you have a Jack Russell you get used to them not knowing they’re small dogs. Because they all seem to think they weigh about 150 pounds!

I hope HRH feels better soon, Dotty. Just wait till she starts school, even preschool – she’ll bring home all kinds of bugs then, too. But the time she’s sick will decrease. I remember when palebunny would have colds as a baby and they’d last two weeks; by the time she was a teenager, they’d only last 3-4 days at most. So it really does get better!

I started the horseshoe lace scarf in the navy blue medium-weight wool last night and got a couple of pattern repeats knitted, and it’s going to look very nice. That pattern either needs the solid color or else a much lighter weight, less dramatically colored yarn knit more loosely. I may try it with a different yarn, but that Mojave Desert colorway is just too dramatic for this pattern. Now I’m trying to figure out how it would look best. Maybe a really simple cable knit on large needles, just enough to give it a bit of texture without the colors being so distracting you can’t see the pattern. Decisions, decisions.

Good morning everyone. I’m up and drinking a cuppa joe.

Yesterday, we cleaned the boat from bow to stern, inside and out. Well, the hubby washed the outside, I was stuck cleaning the inside. It took awhile. I need to shampoo the carpet in the boat, but, it’ll wait for now. It’s not horrible, but it is somewhat dirty. The Expedition got washed too. It needs to be cleaned up inside, but somehow the hubby didn’t get to that. I’ll take care of during vacation, I guess.

Last night, we went to our neighbor’s house for a 99 party. We had a great time, even though we didn’t win any money. We didn’t get home until 2:00 a.m.! None of us realized how much time had gone by. We had a lot of laughs, food, and drink.

I’m sorry to read that Libby is suffering so much. More good thoughts to her, her family and SCL.

Haze, welcome home. I’m glad you made back without entrance hassles.

FCM, it sounds like you and the welbys had a wonderful time. You’d find some beautiful sailing out here on our own Puget Sound and around the San Juan Islands.

Temps are relatively cool today. We may even get a few rain showers.

I do indeed. The interview was on Tuesday and while it took me over two hours to get through the entire process most of it was just waiting time. I was fairly sure that they wouldn’t make too big a deal out of it but it does depend a lot on luck - if the officer interviewing you happens to be having a bad day or disapprove of your hairstyle or God knows what else, you could have your request denied. And that would suck big-time.

Is it weird that guys who contact me too often turn me off? I mean, I don’t even speak to Scottish Darling more than once a week, if that. Getting superfluous text messages somehow manages to irritate me beyond all reason. Maybe I’m a bit of a misanthrope.

SCL, you and Libby are in my thoughts.

You’re just an introverted extrovert.

Just put the airconditioning on and we’ve unpacked some more. It looks a little less ridiculous around here.

rigs, in spite of concerted efforts from Driving Husband, we’ve already picked names, and none of them include Hulga or Skylar. If it’s a boy, it’s Nathaniel Elijah, if it’s a girl, it’s Miriam Kane (pronounced Kaan-eh, my Japanese grandmother’s name). We’ll probably tack my Dad’s name, Isao, onto the boy’s name.

My Mum’s middle name, and her Mum’s, is Muriel. I’m not saddling a daughter with it, but I figure Miriam is close enough to be a sort of nod in that direction.

There are a lot more stupid girl’s names in name books than boy’s names. I dunno why.

ulp I just talked to my aunt/new boss, and am to go to work at 9 AM on Tuesday. Now, I knew I’d be starting Tuesday, but having it confirmed…now I’m getting nervous. I mean, I packed up and drove a long way, and I don’t want to screw this up.

I think I’m going to have to start carrying my camera with me everywhere I go. I went out to drive around a bit earlier and was wishing I had it!

I love the name Miriam! So pretty. And the story about her in the Bible, where she sings after the Israelites have been freed - for some reason that always caught my imagination.

Howdy Y’all!

snowbunny glad you made it to Idaho. You’ll do great on the job.

Dotty hope Noor is feelin’ better.

{{{Snakes}}} I continue to keep Libby in my thoughts and prayers.

We have done nuttin’ all weekend. It’s just freakin’ hot! So it’s been pool, gettin’ back inside for some AC, more pool, and a lot more AC. We’re going to a friend’s house around sixish for dinner, so no cookin’ even. Heck, no cookin’ anyways cause it’s too freakin’ hot, so food consumption has been in the form of sammiches.

It’s raining! YAY!!!

My grandmother’s name was Muriel. We didn’t exactly have our pick of names when it came to our kids. We liked the whole naming after family, but here is just a sample:

Muriel
Shirley
Gary
Douglas (not so bad, but he’d get quite an inflated head over it)
John (ok, not so bad)
Helen
Roberta
Lester
Ardell (female)
Dutch (they claim they never knew his real name)
Virginia

We went our own way after checking this list!
I need to work on window treatments, but have a wretched sinus headache–just took some drugs, so hopefully they’ll work. Hotter than hell again today-and I missed the meteor shower (again) due to thunderstorms. I miss it every year due to overcast or storms. Methinks they’re a myth.

My Mum’s Dad’s name was Ford.

We’re not naming a kid Ford. No way.

I like Miriam very much. QD thinks it’s old-fashioned. She wants to name her daughter (if she ever gets married and has kids) Madeleine. I like Madeleine, but it’s too trendy right now.

snowbunny! Of course! That’s an absolutely brilliant nickname for whiterabbit, Swampy – plays on her name and her location perfectly! How do you do it? (I know, I know, you’re witty and brilliant! :D)

I finally figured out, duh-hey, that it’s a lot easier to draw up knitting pattern charts in Excel than in a word processing program. Of course, it’s been forcing me to remember my Excel, which I haven’t used except for at one job that I left in 2001, but it’s coming back to me. And bwteen a mixture of Arial and knitting symbol fonts with one Cyrillic letter thrown in for good measure (the upside-down V, which looks like Λ, whatever that letter may be in Cyrillic) since the stupid knitting font didn’t have that one for some unknown reason, I was able to do reproduce some charts, not only in a larger font than the 6 pitch or so on the original pattern but also on white paper instead of the dark teal it came on. I realize that the pattern company Fiber Trends thinks the dark teal is pretty, but apparently no one there is actually a knitter or they’d figure out that 6 pitch fonts on dark colored paper are just a teensy bit hard to see. Especially with eyes that are getting a bit older, like mine – and it certainly makes them impractical to follow when you’re trying to knit at the same time!

Almost finished with Mr. Fifth Amendment. Thank heavens. It was getting exceedingly boring, listening to the attorneys drone out their questions and the witness read the same answer off his little card over and over and over and over…

Drive by post.

VKid is here and vegging.

I had a naptime dream yesterday that Ford introduced the Swampbear Edition Mustang (YES! Our Swampy!)

Gonna stick dynamite under the kid, and go assassinate a rotten watermelon.
