What business is it of yours?
Chris Lee didn’t get a tenth as much hysterical media coverage as this non-story is getting, by the way. Anyone who thinks Weiner is getting soft treatment in comparison lives in la la land.
As Mr Moto said, time will tell. I think it’s hysterical that Weiner won’t outright deny that the weiner is his, which says to me that at the very least, there ARE photos out there of Weiner’s crotch and this may or may not be one of them and he doesn’t want to get caught in a lie if it is; but as for the difficulty of posting something on someone else’s yFrog account, check this out. Couple that with the apparent foreknowledge by right-wing bloggers of Weiner’s “sex scandal pictures” and it looks like it could easily be a setup.
As for comparing it to Chris Lee, there’s no comparison. Chris Lee could hardly deny that the picture was him, and didn’t deny he had sent the emails or that he was actively trying to cheat on his wife. Weiner has plausible deniability on all of those, which mostly means there will be more argument about what actually happened, and more detective work to find out who sent that tweet, but I don’t think that it will be impossible to get to the bottom of it.
I’d say that’s very strongly implied, but it doesn’t mean he’s done anything wrong.
Rep. Weiner shared this fact with Rachel Maddow, among others. Makes it as much my business as any other member of the public.
Didn’t say he did. And I don’t mean to imply either that taking such pictures for your own (or loved one’s) use is morally wrong. But it’s true that one of the simplest rules for avoiding headaches on the internet is “don’t take pictures of your own crotch and leave them where other people can find them.” It’s a lot easier to deny the existence of something you know damned well doesn’t exist.
And frankly, the only reason I can think of that he wouldn’t deny the picture is his is that such pictures DO exist. It’s just incredibly unsavvy of him if that’s the case.
People are suggesting the FBI and other LE should devote their limited resources to a congressman’s hacked/pranked twitter account? Seriously?
And as stated upthread, there’s no reason why Weiner has to worry about submitting to a criminal investigation for what’s happened. It’s an underwear pic sent over twitter. WTF is wrong with people?
What’s your opinion on the (alledged) Weiner photo? Vote here!
Yeah, seriously. Cybersecurity in a congressional office seems like a fairly big deal to me. Besides, Congress has its own police force (Capitol Police) that would likely lead the investigation.
<Quasi-nit-pick> Wouldn’t it be under the purvey of the Secret Service? I don’t know.
I’m asking how it’s your business why he chose to go that route instead involving the FBI. He’s the victim, he can take it as seriously as he wants to.
He would not have done anything illegal even if he had sent this tweet, so he is not avoiding any kind of prosecution. If a crime was committed it was against Weiner, not by WQeiner.
<sub-nitpick> Purview </sub-nitpick>
Well, frankly, Rep. Weiner has little to fear from little ol’ me. But CBS News among others are asking essentially the same question.
And I doubt they care if you think it isn’t their business.
Rep. Weiner can take matters however he sees fit, but if these invite further questions that’s on him.
It’s not their business either. They’re hyenas. The victim of a crime is not obliged to answer questions about it in the media.
Well, nobody is obligated to talk to the media, whether they are the victim of a crime or the perpetrator of one. But Representative Weiner has not refused to talk to the media, has he? Indeed, his statements to the press are a part of the mess he has found himself in today.
Even Weiner’s defenders generally agree that his statements to reporters weren’t helpful to his public case.
I want to see the photo.
What mess? That the media won’t stop harassing him for being the victim of a crime?
Just go to google and type “Weiner photo.” What’s the worst that could happen?
[Seriously, the photo has been published all over the place. It shouldn’t be hard to find.]
I have googled it. All I get is pics of dacshunds and hot dogs.
EDIT: Ok found it by adding the term twitter to the search.
That’s not what I thought you were going to get. Maybe the internet isn’t as dirty as I thought.
