Contextual Truths from Sitcoms

Every now and then, in the lowly genre of Sitcom, a character speaks a “truth” that can apply to life in general, way beyond the particulars of the show. But sometimes these truths only make sense in the context of that show, and seem to be totally meaningless out of context. Let’s see how many we can come up with. I’ll start with:

Everybody Loves Raymond - “Don’t let a suitcase filled with cheese become your big fork and spoon.”

Homer: So the lesson is, never try.

Moe the bartender: “It’s like my father used to say. Sooner or later, everybody gets shot.”

Mork Calling Orsen. This week I learned that violence is bad.

Shawn Hunter from Boy Meets World: “Every time I’ve wanted anything in life, theres been an Eskimo in my way”
