Copy a .JPG file from my hard drive into a post

Hello,

I have a .JPG file on my hard drive and I would like to learn how to copy the picture in that file into a post on this board.

I don’t expect anyone here to explain how to do that. However, if there is an explanation that exist somewhere in a “Help” file or a FAQ or something similar to those kinds of documents, I would certainly appreciate if you could point me to that text.

Thank you very much.

You can’t. Get an account at a photo-hosting site and post a link.

Give us all remote access to your computer. And your credit card information. And your social security number. And your mother’s maiden name.

Thanks very much. I will come back to this thread if I have any difficulties and post questions here.

There was a well known photo-hosting site (PhotoBucket) that I used for quite some time. But then it seemed to disappear.

I seem to recall that someone once told me the site “ThumperDC.org” was a good site to use. Does anyone have any experience with them and know if they are a good place?

tinypic.com

Thank you Inna. I will give them a try.

Photobucket is still around, I use it. I can’t say how it compares to others. I used it because we had dial-up at the time and it was more useable than others.

you’re welcome. So about that creditcard number…

Say Inna? It worked like a charm! I am now a full fledged member of tinypic.

Thanks again! I’ll put your name down for the secret “kickback”. I hope you will get it.

Oops. I got cut off by the editor time limit again. So … continued from the last post.
My Gosh! They were so thoughtful. They knew exactly what I would need to know after I uploaded a couple of images.

Of course, what I would need to know was how to get those images from the tinypic.com site to this message board.

So, they showed me exactly how to do it.

I have to rate that site with a big thumbs up because I was able to use it and I never had to go looking through some FAQ files or some Instructional Tutorials.

What a refreshing experience! That was a truly memorable experience for me.

Oh dear! I’m so sorry. I spoke too soon.

They did give me the code to use. But that code didn’t work in the way I expected it to.

Actually, they gave me four different codes to use for each image that I uploaded. Those four codes are:

HTML for websites
IMG Code for websites and forums
URL for email and IM
Direct Links for Layouts

I selected “IMG Code for websites and forums” because I thought it was the closest.

The exact code they showed me for one of my images was:

But when I inserted that code into my post, it just reprinted that code as follows. I will use commas instead of periods in the following insertions so you can see what I entered and also what what this forum translated that to. Here we go:

I tried it both with and without the [IMG] tags. Here is the example without the tags.

Oh dear. Isn’t that sad?

Would anyone know what I need to do to get my images into my post?

You can’t put the images in your post. The board software is configured to not allow that. All you can do is link to them.

As running coach and Lord Feldon said, you can’t have an image show up in your post on the SDMB - that functionality is disabled. What you have to do is upload the image to a server (you’ve done this) and link to it. You’ve already posted hyperlinked URLs, but you can also post linked text using URL tags.

To do that, replace the {} in the line below with :

{url=http://oi62.tinypic.com/13yqauh.jpg}Smoking Girl{/url}

When you make the substitution, that line shows up in your post as:
Smoking Girl

Enginerd,

Thank you ever so much!

I’m sorry for the delay in replying to you but my PC croaked last night and it was a miracle that I got it working again.

Why did it croak? Because I was foolish and did not keep it clean.

I should explain so that other people might have a chance to learn from my mistake.

I never opened my case for about a year and the dust and dirt from everyday living built up and I guess my temperature senser decided, “Nope! It’s too hot. Go and clean out your case, you fool!”

Anyway, I did that using a vaccum cleaner for the parts that were easily vaccuumed and I used a can of compressed air for the parts that were too hard to reach with a vaccuum cleaner.

Then I let my living room temperature drop and I crossed my fingers and tried again and Oh My Gosh! I got lucky and it worked. The thought of a fried motherboard would have been just too much for me to handle today

I will now try your suggestion and hope it will work. Stand By, Amigos!

Oh my! I see in the .JPG file there is a whole lot of extra images from TinyPic. Is that what the lette “o” did?

I see that I could answer my own question and, the answer is YES! That is what the letter “o” did.

Thanks again. Your help was much appreciated. I don’t think I could have ever figured this out without your help.

Phew! I just let out a huge sigh of relief at the thought of having completed this task. But I learned a very valuable technique and I’m very happy to have learned that!

HAPPY Me!

This is just so %#()#&* frustrating because every time I try to use the “Preview Post”, I must first click on “Go Advanced” and then when I return, the post has disappeared.

I just hate that Edit Time Limit so much. If it wasn’t for that, things would be so much easier.

But as it stands, I just scream!!!

OK. Here goes.

I’m getting closer. I think I may even have it now. I’ll try the following caption:
“Smoking is Bad for your Coffin”

Smoking is Bad for your Coffin

Hooray! It worked! But I said that before! Won’t someone please kill me and put me out of my misery? Yuck!
Here is the code I used (with all square brackets replaced by rounded brackets).

(url=http://oi62.tinypic.com/14mf9qt.jpg) Smoking is Bad for your Coffin(/url)

Oh my! It was so much work to do this. It took me about 3 hours filled with trial and error just to learn a seemingly simple techniqe.

Here is the thread I posted using this technique.

I sure do hope most of you will think it was worth the work. I don’t know after all those trial and errors.

There’s no need to “go back.”

Click on Go Advanced, then click on Preview Post.

You’ll see what your post will look like. Then simply scroll down a little bit and you’ll see the entire posting/editing field with your post in it. Make your corrections there, then click on Preview Post again. You’ll now see the updated version of your post. If you need to make more changes, just repeat. When you’re happy with what you did, simply click Submit Reply.

Edited: I just clicked on your post. The first and third links worked. The second link showed all the extraneous stuff you were trying to elminate.

Thanks Kunilou. I think I have figured it out by now. But I sure would not have figured out anything without the help of several of the members here.

I just want to say thank you to all of them. Some of them put in a lot of their time and effort to help me.

People can use a greasemonkey script to see linked images displayed inline.

There is another script that displays avatars of people who have supplied them.
