Coronavirus COVID-19 (2019-nCoV) Thread - 2020 Breaking News

Hawaii still has a 14 day mandatory quarantine for you unwashed/unmasked interlopers from the mainland. However, some residents of Kauai and the big island and [del]an association[/del] a sock puppet organization called For Our Rights are suing the Gov saying his emergency powers are [del]unconstitutional[/del] getting in our way to make money. They are being represented by The Attorneys for Freedom Law Firm. These concerned citizens are being joined by the DOJ which filed a statement of interest Tuesday challenging the constitutionality of Ige’s COVID-19 out-of-state passenger quarantine order. Nothing political here, nope, nothing to see, keep moving.

From (probably need to go incognito to read): Justice Department urges Gov. David Ige to lift out-of-state quarantine

What do we have to do for strikeout text?

Quarantines must be mandated; no such voluntary thing. Nobody is going to voluntary restrict themselves to staying in a house for 14 days out of the goodness of their hearts to not infect others if asymptomatic. This sort of thing has to be mandated by force of law.

Looking around the discourse site it appears that HTML tags (‘< del > < /del >’) will produce A new-fangled-deleted-text-block but it just doesn’t seem as final as strikethrough and is more likely to be confused with an actually meant word if typed in jest. ETA: Found it. ‘[ s ] [ /s ]’ produces strikethrough. I must remember this.

The entire Commonwealth of Virginia is to enter Phase 3 a week from today.

Yup. I live in Austin and the local numbers, state numbers are just awful.

When ABBOTT says you need to stay home, you know it’s bad.

The BBC are reporting that the EU may not open external flight to the US because the spread is too high. I don’t imagine this would go down too well with the US administration.

Or businesses. I think that may be what forces the feds’ hand in this area.

Nevada Gov. Sisolak just announced that face masks will be mandatory in public beginning tomorrow.

Good; it’s about time.

And is Las Vegas still in the running to host NHL games? I really hope not. Disaster waiting to happen.

Vancouver has recorded 60 cases from June 1 - 24. Clark County NV had 371 cases on June 16 alone.

Las Vegas, Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Los Angeles and Chicago are all still possibilities.

Frankly, Las Vegas might be one of the best options. Each team could have their own wing of a casino hotel and still be just a few hundred yards from the arena. I’m heading out tomorrow night a bit to see for myself what the casino traffic is like, but I suspect there are very few people willing to take part in our offerings just yet. If that’s the case, the teams could have their own wings and still be isolated from the public.

9,532,038 total cases
485,122 dead
5,178,999 recovered

In the US:

2,462,554 total cases
124,281 dead
1,040,605 recovered

Yesterday’s numbers for comparison:

Wonder how they think they’ll enforce it…

Presumably something that’s voluntary won’t be or need to be enforced.

What percentage do you think will volunteer? Give me a few hours to relax and recover from the flight/drive, and then I’d be up and about as usual.

And how are they going to ensure people even know about it?

I love you. Thank you for finding this.

I just watched part of a video from a Palm Beach city council meeting where anti-maskers angrily denounced the new mandatory mask rule. One woman claimed masks are killing people, and that the city council (and some doctor present) were going to be convicted of crimes against humanity.

Has it ever been harder to battle ignorance?

That was nuts. A woman said something like “a mask prevents me from using the breathing system God gave me.”

And then there’s this from the Lewis County, WA sheriff:

“In case you guys didn’t hear, Gov. Inslee in his infinite wisdom has decided after over a hundred and some odd days that we should all wear face masks, inside and out,” he said, in the video. “Here’s what I say – don’t be a sheep.”

Ignorant sheriff spreading BS and flouting the governor’s orders. Bodes well. (And the order doesn’t mandate masks outside unless you can’t be 6 ft. apart.)

Yeah, I saw that, too. I wonder if she’s ever attempted to use a mask. Because she didn’t look like she was so weak she couldn’t breath through one.

I tried searching the post…sorry if I missed it upthread. This came up on my Facebook feed, so I snopes-ed it. Coming soon to a retail outlet near you?
