Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 71 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 92 for the day and it might rain. Or not. Nobody knows.
Today my new assistant starts. Poor thing will be innundated with trainin’ this week. I feel she’ll catch on pretty quick however. There’s some online stuff that must be done as well as such fun things as gettin’ her set up with a permanent admin account, user names, passwords and all that there stuff. Also, tonight is men’s night over to the church house. Thus, steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. Lookin’ forward to that.
Ok, that’s all I got. Now I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy demands to be fed. Then, alas and alack, 'tis Moanday so irk purtification must commence.
So, tell me what fun things y’all have comin’ up this week. Or hijack away. Either way it’s all win-win!
This is the week we use our camper for the first time. And Higgs goes to a kennel for the first time. Poor Higgs…
There’s a Maryland-Delaware HOG Rally in Cumberland, MD and **FCD **wants to show his bike. So we’ve got reservations at the Rocky Gap State Park campgrounds. We’ll head out there on Thurs, he’ll show his bike on Friday, and I’ll come back on Sat morning. Whether he comes home with me or stays another night depends on the weather - right now, there’s only a 40% chance of t-storms in the forecast, but a couple of days ago, it was 80%. We’ll figger it out at the time.
As for the early part of the week: highs in the 90s + humid = not working outside. Maybe I’ll do some laundry. Maybe I’ll play in my studio. Maybe I’ll do some chores. Doesn’t matter - I’m retired!
The main thing I don’t like about the solstice is that the days start getting shorter again. Dammit. Plus that heat thing. Double dammit. We should have settled somewhere with a less hot and humid summer. Oh, well.
Yeah, I don’t have a lot planned for this week either, just avoiding the heat. Although I heard from the library that I can go get the new Harry Dresden novel - it’s finally my turn on the hold list.
Next week, however, is chock full. We’re going up to the 'burgh for the week. Right now we’re planning on leaving on Sunday morning, but if we can think of something to see between here and there, we might leave on Saturday.
We’ve really hit the “Aw crap, it’s already packed!” phase now of wanting to do “x” and realizing some key component is unavailable.
The rice cooker is packed. So is the rice. The dutch ovens are hiding in boxes. Ditto the frying pan. Getting very close to “Do we want to go for Chinese, Thai or Mexican tonight?”
Another joyous week. Back to dayside, and for this I am thankful.
Had the kids for the weekend. Although the weather was wonderful, we were unable to go on the water because the trailer for the boat was being rebuilt. I had a couple ideas of what to do for the weekend, one of which get the kids to pass their MD Boating Certificate course. The website says 3.5 hours.
It took us 7 on Saturday, but both passed with perfect scores. Very happy, and very happy we don’t have to do it again. Now they can legally operate a boat in MD (and in states that accept the certificate). And I even learned some things going through the course too.
Not got too much planned for this week, juggling should be interestin’ tonight, as I’m bringing some of the students from the uni club to meet the locals. Partly I’m trying to get the annual one day convention going again, which the students have to book, but the other local jugglers often do half the work for (as they know more performers and teachers)- but after a hiatus when the union building was having renovations , the two groups have separated off, and I’m now the only regular at both clubs.
I also plan to bake some cake, so I’d better away and get ingredients soon. Just waiting for the washing machine to finish so I can hang stuff out to dry first.
Blurf. I had a chance meeting with a large quantity of wine last night. You can work out the rest for yourselves.
This is my last week of being unemployed so I have a few things planned. Today there may be grocery shopping if I feel like it. Tomorrow I’m getting my hair cut and as I will be in town, I will be picking up tickets to see the Swedish war machine when they come here in December - a bit of poor planning one way or another as they are playing on the same day I get back from a week in Vegas but it will give me an incentive to stay awake!
Wednesday is pub night, Thursday is an as yet unplanned day, and I’ll be visiting my doting parent on Friday. Saturday I’ve booked on a tour of the Pre-Raphaelite section of the big art gallery, followed by a bit of shopping and some cocktails with a friend. Sunday…another unplanned one but I think it will be a quiet day before starting my new job.
It’s a clear, cool, sunny <Swampy snerk> 69 </Swampy snerk> degrees outside. I’ll be closing my window shortly.
Today I go see the doctor, I didn’t sleep well and I’m nervous. I’m glad my friend has her car back from the shop and she can drive me downtown.
We’ll be have lunch afterwards but we haven’t decided where yet. There’s a nice restaurant out her way that I like, but I’m waiting to see how I feel.
I got the most weird phone call this morning.
Normally I don’t answer numbers I don’t recognize but since I’m getting calls from doctors and hospitals and insurance providers lately I answered.
So the guy asks for Mrs. Snickerdoodle*. I tell him he has the wrong number. He says are you sure, I say yeah I’m sure. Then he says oh, because I am calling about the house on Somerset Lane*. I said sorry, you have the wrong number.
The weird part
Way way way back when I was using AOHell, and we are going back a long way, I had made up a fake name that I used whenever I was filing out surveys or inquiring for information. Anything I signed up for got the fake name. The name was so obviously fake Cookie Snickerdoodle* that I couldn’t believe I’d actually get phone calls and snail mail addressed to that name.
I haven’t even seen, heard or thought about the name in probably 10 years.
The address he asked about, is a house my sister owns.
How in the hell did somebody get my fake name from over ten years ago, get my cell phone number, and associate it with the HFH!!!
Maybe I should do a search on the fake name.
*these aren’t real names, just an example of how obvious it is the name is fake.
Later this week I may or may not look at some other houses. If the offer I have in now is accepted then I won’t. If I haven’t heard anything then I will.
My youngest sis is frustrating. She posts little trivia nuggets on her FB, and for the most part, they’re bogus. I send her links with the real story, and she says “I’m just doing this for fun.” Today, she deleted the comment I made. Her FB so she can do what she wants, but it is aggravating that she’d propagate BS. She’s a brat!
We’re back from the gym, and in a little bit, I’ll retreat to the cool of the basement and spend a little time in my studio. The house is still open, but it won’t last long, alas. Oh yeah, and I need to make ice for the weekend. Off I go!!!
“Principal Tighhtpants”? Good luck on the interviews.
The one time I kenneled Gordie, he thought he was going back to the pound, and had a meltdown in the vet’s lobby.
and as far as FB goes: “90% of the quotes on Facebook are made up.” - Abraham Lincoln.
We used to take Pixel and Bernie together and they’d stay in the same run. Unfortunately, we can’t take Higgs and Taz because Taz will escape. She won’t be happy, but she’ll survive.
Getting ready to go. I’m springing for a nice lunch, I htink we’ll go to the Hazelwood Inn They have good crab cakes, and sauer beef and dumplings, and real mashed potatoes.
mmmmmmmmm - crab cakes! *<drool>
*
I had some leftover chicken for lunch, then I pulled some weeds in the bed next to the front porch. I figure I did about 1/3 of it, but the sun is too high and there’s no more shade in the front. I’ll get out there again first thing tomorrow and see how much more I can get done. It’s an overgrown mess! I’ll weed it, then feed it. Of course, the feeding will nourish the weeds too, dammit.
**FCD **is on his way to Baltimore to take the helmet to my sister. She’s going to be surprised. I got an email from our travel agent - she couldn’t reach my mom. Turns out the guys who are fixing her collapsing culvert managed to cut her phone line. I finally reached her on her cell. With luck, she’ll have her phone back tomorrow.
When I cool down a bit, I’m going to futz in my studio for a while. The house is closed and the air is on and I do not like that I had to do it. Oh well, such is summer in southern Merrylande…
