I’d be down with that!
Just when you think it’s unpleasant where you are, you realize someone nearby is a bit worse off. I was hearing intermittent thumps yesterday, and figured it was just the neighborhood kids with their home-made skateboard ramps and rails.
Turns out, a bit down the street, someone’s getting a new roof, and the noises were roofers doing a full tearoff and re-roof. One of the last places I’d want to be on a 94 degree day is on a roof in the sun, horsing around rolls of hot black tar paper and bundles of shingles. I think the titanium bits in my spine would melt in that sort of heat.
It’s a beautiful day today. I, however, am draggy as all get out because it was very humid last night and difficult to sleep. I don’t want to turn the a/c on yet because I don’t want a scary 'lectrik bill.
**rosie **- we got our scary 'lectrik bill for last month… when I ran my kiln…
Up and caffeinated. it’s also payday, so I shall fill Rory’s gastank before work.
Yeah, they are reroofing my apartment complex this week. Between 97 degree days, and dodging thunderstorms, it can’t be fun.
As Jynxster previously reported, we got big thunderboomers in our parts last night. I saw a lot of tree limbs on the ground during the drive in to work. Even saw a sapling broken in half in the lot behind the office. So I guess it was a lot windier here than I realized last night. I guess I’m going to have to patrol our property (and the old lady’s next door0 when I get home from work tonight to corral all of the tree parts that were knocked loose.
We’ve had storms the last two nights. Between fog and debris riding to work has been ------- interesting. And at my age I don’t really care for interesting.
So, how did the surgery go?
Yeah, “interesting” is why we’re at home and not at the HOG rally - my sweetie wasn’t too keen on riding in the rain, or worrying about his bike in the rain, or setting up the camper in the rain… So he’s downstairs painting a helmet, away from any rain.
I went for (not so) early bike ride this morning, doing the LPF route. I looked at my watch & decided to skip Prison Hill & turn back a bit early to fire up the old irk 'puter. Instead I went further North, & ended up doing more hills & more mileage than the LPF ride. :smack:
The hardships of irk: I is irking from my back deck. I needed to come in & get sunglasses.
Let’s just go with the last sentence, shall we. How about “That tiff that ended many years before my great-grandpappy was even a glint in *his *parent’s eye; yet we’re still [del]sore losers[/del] fighting it, against people whose great-great-grandpappy’s weren’t even on this continent yet & therefore had nothing to do with it.” <geez, we really need the old rolleyes back!>
**Spidey **- considering my fambly - both sides - didn’t even arrive in this country till the early 1900s, I just ignore such silliness.
I don’t know if we got rain last night but we got a lot the night before. There’s a big puddle under my truck.
Boring day, I should be enjoying it because nobody is home but me and the son but you never know when something is going to come home. I’m half watching an old Mod Squad and Tom Bosley is the bad guy. Howard Cunningham as a bad guy? That is just so wrong.
I can’t shake the grumpies today.
I know the south doesn’t want to claim us but Maryland is a southern state. We are south of the Mason-Dixon, that makes us southern so y’all sown below need to just get over your fool selves and accept it.
FCM My ex from years ago had a Snortin’ Norton and he was following me back to Baltimore when it started raining. We pulled over and found a 2x4 laying on the ground and he used that as a ramp to roll his bike up into the back of my truck. Up until that point I never thought about how hard it is to ride a bike in the rain. Helmets don’t come with little wipers to clear the view.
Executive supper decision made: we’re having calamari. I’ve never made it before, but how hard can it be? Don’t overcook it - that’s the main thing I keep reading. So I’m going to head out for a couple of ingredients I need, pink legs and all. OK, they’re not all pink - just spotty pink. But they don’t itch, and that’s what counts!
**sari **- it’s not just lack of wipers - rain stings when it hits you at high speed. And of course, lower visibility in rain makes the semi-invisible bikes even harder to see.
Well I’m from Wisconsin, but I have a lot of diehard Southern friends, so I know the lingo. And technically I qualify as a “Damn Yankee” since I’ve been in N.C. for 38 years.
My father’s side didn’t get here until the 1900’s but my mother’s side has been here since forever I guess. Most of them were in WV with a sprinkling in VA, but I had family on both sides in the war - brother against brother so to speak.
Anyway, it was long ago and far away and while I like to yank southerners chains now and again about MD being in the south, like most things in life I enjoy being in the middle and not choosing a side.
It’s why I registered as an Independent, I don’t want to be associated with the idiots on either side.
Happy Firday!
I’m with y’all and having a waitress who’s old enough to be your mom ask you in a voice soaked in years of cigarette smoke and whiskey (if she’s not Babdist) ask (or tell) you what you want at a favorite comfort food joint. We hav a couple of those in my little town.
Looks like I’ll get to duck out a bit early, as usual on Firday. All the better to touch up the house before a guest arrives for supper.
It’s my understanding, that throughout history, the winners write the history book, you, you, you Cheesehead you.
Moommm & Sari don’t forget brake suckage & the fact that you can’t tell if that little puddle is really a water-filled pothole.
Best rain riding story: My buddies wife used a little too much soap the last time his shorts were washed. All was fine the first few miles, until it started to rain. Once they got wet, along with the agitation action of legs against the saddle caused him to have a stream of tiny bubbles coming out of his arse.
You and me both, sister!!
My calamari rings are soaking in buttermilk. Does that sound like secret agent code or what??
The apple pie is baking.
Repeat, the apple pie is baking.
Some people didn’t get the memo.
FCM: The dough has risen. Repeat: the dough has risen.
