Crap on toast. TS Gamma to hit South Florida

Looks like it’s following Wilma’s path, and it will hit Monday with tropical storm force winds.

Great. Just great.

Hey Ivylass I came here looking for this thread that I knew you would start. You go girl!

Hey nobody ever said living in Florida was all sunshine, palm trees and warm weather. I look at it as an opportunity to “thin the state out.” Not that the storm will kill anyone, don’t won’t that, but that people will now think twice before moving to Florida because of the storms or maybe some will move out.

South Florida and parts of Central Florida are really becoming unsubstainable when it comes to potable water and other things. And you guys damn sure aren’t gonna take any water from our pristine rivers up this way (there’s a proposal to do that.)

I look at it as Mother Nature’s way of population control!

Whoa - when did that happen?? Like Florida needs more of that crap…

Very quickly, as a matter of fact. As I understand it, it was a depression that “reorganized” itself.

Gamma? Gamma? Effin’ Gamma? How are storms still forming? I thought Hurricane Season ended in early October.

Hurricane season officially ends the end of November.

Wilma was the last letter of the alphabet. Now they’re using the Greek alphabet.

It technically ends when the water isn’t warm enough to support a hurricane. I saw on a one weather blog that this may not happen until early December this year. IIRC, this was the case in 2003.

Here’s that blog BTW

November 15 entry

From: http://www.weather.com/newscenter/tropical/?from=wxcenter_news

I’ll be thinking about you tomorrow.
We got a bunch of nicely seasoned wood dumped in our driveway today and my husband and I (and the kids, if we can get them to help) will be splitting and stacking it all day tomorrow.
Gotta keep warm, you know. It’s cold up here!

I was in the eye of Hurricane Kate (**Qadgop the Mercotan ** spoke of it in an above post,) the last hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. in the month of November. I remember it being scary but kinda fun since I was in college at the time. It did break the sliding glass doors of the apartment I was taking refuge in. They cancelled college classes for something like two weeks because of the damage, so we a very long Thanksgiving break.

Well, I know what I’ll be writing about when I got to work Sunday evening…

Oh this stinks. I have an editor in S. Florida who just dug out from Wilma. Ouch.

Not that I’d wish destruction on anyone, but I think it’d be awesome if it went by a college down there and blew some windows out of a Gamma Gamma Gamma sorority, if there is such a place.

Tropical storms can be nasty, but they’re not necessarily all that bad, either. Still…wow. Gamma. Dang.

What a year.

It looks like it may miss us, according to the latest tracking info. Turn baby turn!

I live in South Florida, and I’d much it hit us than Cuba, Haiti or Mexico. We have the infrastructure to take it. They do not. If you think I’m saying from a position of affluence and saftey, I am not. There’s a holes in the roof over my head, which Katrina and Wilma punched in, and I live on Miami Beach. It’ a barrier island, and we could easily flood from storm surge if we took a direct hit. At least I’m not living in a Port a Prince shanty town, or a 50’s era apartment in Havanna.

My parents in Miami lost power after Katrina AND Wilma, although they got off easy compared to so many thousands of people. Up here in Orlando, we haven’t gotten a peep all hurricane season, but I was planning to head down there a few days before Thanksgiving next week. My folks just called to tell me to come down on Monday or consider not coming at all, and how we won’t be cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year in case we lose power and can’t keep perishables. Oh boy, it’s going to be a joyous time.

crosses fingers, hoping it hits so I can chill out for a couple of days
