Time flies when you are a geezer. I was listening to the Cream at Royal Albert Hall double CD set this morning at work when I happened to notice the dates: May 2 - 3 - 5 - 6 2005. Wow, twenty years ago! Of course, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker are no longer with us. (I often imagine the two of them in some kind of purgatory, at each other’s throats for all eternity, kind of like that Lazarus and Lazarus episode of Star Trek TOS.) But man those guys could make some awesome music.
ETA: No Discourse, this is NOT a Star Trek thread! Stupid auto-tagging.
I’ve got the DVD of that concert also. Wheels of Fire was my favorite album when I was in college, and I have the VHS tape of the final concert.
Fans should watch Beware of Mr. Baker. Amazing.
I never saw Cream, but I did see Ginger Baker’s Air Force in Central Park one year.
I used to have a recording of the concert on DVR and watched it quite a few times, but lost it when the DVR died a few DVRs ago.
I’ve actually got two copies of Wheels of Fire on LP. I suspect one of them must have belonged to a college roommate and got put into my albums by mistake.
“Beware of Mr Baker” is awesome.
