Creative dopers, it's almost February, and time for Thing a Day 2010!

Last year while perusing Cafe Society threads, I learned about Thing a Day, a month-long challenge to do something creative for each day of February, and post about it in the TAD blog. What a wonderful way to break up the monotony of my least favorite month. I loved it. I hope all the dopers that were in the group last February are coming back this year, and that more will join us. Sign-up opens Jan 24th:

I hope I’ll see you there!

(mods, if there is a thread on TAD 2010 started already, please close this one. I could not get search to work for me at all this morning)

Thanks! It might be just the thing to get me back to drawing. I’ve been unemployed and haven’t much felt like doing anything creative. Need to get back to it.

I want to check out the site but, unfortunately, archives are closed while they re-organize.

Oooh. I forgot about Thing a Day. I am on Mat. leave with a easy baby. Maybe this year I will have time.

Can’t wait!

If your TAD name is not the same as your Doper name, please post your TAD name here so we know how to find your posts.

I’m in.

Not sure what I’ll be doing this year – I had a knitting project in mind, but it morphed into something else, plus I’ve started it already, and I don’t need three knitting projects going at once (I’m also making some socks for my sister).

I do hundreds of “things” per day in my classes - my only problem will be finding the time to post one every day in February - although this does sound fun and intriguing.

Just post when you can, Dmark!
There are no hard and fast rules to when you should post. It’s a very easy-going group. I surprised myself by getting in 29 posts last round, but I didn’t expect that I would be able to do that, and it would’ve been fine if I could not.

I may be a sporadic poster this year because my 81-year old dad is nearing the end of his long battle with lung cancer. But creativity is also a great outlet, so I would not miss TAD. I’m giving myself permission in advance not to post every day if I can’t.

I’ll be LaughingLark over there. That’s my username most places on the internet. Tabithina was my old cat, who was sitting on my lap when I joined the SDMB years ago.

I’m really looking forward to this year’s round!

LaughingLark! I remember you from last year!

And I remember your beautiful bead work, freckafree!

It looks like they are still having some kind of server problems, but this link to the sign up might work:

And more info here:

These links seem to work sporadically, so check them again later if you don’t see their new page. Last year, they had it down to the wire, but it ran well by the first of Feb.

I’m registered, as twickster.

And I’ve decided on this year’s project – drawing. I’ve always wanted to be able to, and realize that the way to be able to is, well, to do it.

I finally got it to work and am registered as freckafree.

A few months ago, I bought Diane Fitzgerald’s book on beadweaving 3D shapes. This is so NOT what I do. I mean, you have to count and stuff, and it is very possible to screw it up if you don’t count right.

So my idea is to play with making some of these very structured geometric shapes and incorporating them in my freeform work.

I was wondering why I hadn’t seen a thread, now I see why!

Hopefully, this year my PC won’t go tits up in the middle of the thing.

One more day!

Okay, I’ve subscribed to freckafree, Zyada, and LaughingLark’s blogs. Anyone else? (And I’m getting strangers subscribing to mine, based on the word “drawing” in my profile, I guess … I’m not sure they realize that I’m a total freakin’ amateur …)

I just got an email saying I am not supposed to spend “more than 30 minutes” on each thing. Have they done this before? Not to mention… why? It takes me longer than 30 minutes just to dig through stuff to find supplies for some of the things I want to do.

I’m giving it a shot and thinking “collage.” Some of these could be creatively questionable.
I’m registered as amarinth on the site.

I just signed up

What a great idea! I don’t know how I missed this every year before now, but I delighted to have found it! I’m signed up as charleywho, and I just sketched out my first posting. I’m at work right now (always check the dope first thing in the morning, so I’ll ink the sketch at lunch ans scan it. Woo-hoo!

That’s always been the guideline – the idea is to experiment and play around, to stretch yourself a little, to keep the stakes low – not to create 28 Works Of Art. I prefer it, actually – I find it liberating. If the “thing” doesn’t work out – oh well, so be it, there’s always tomorrow.

I’m not finding you …

I just finished putting up my first post - but it’s teeny-tiny and turned sideways! What did I do wrong?
