Creatures of Habit in the MMP

Metal Mouse, I’ve known him all my life. We grew up together. He’s just a good friend, and I love him to death. He’s having a rough time with life, since he’s got COPD. He just won’t stop smoking, though! Anyway, I do what I can for him. He gives me the money to buy everything, and I get to keep what is leftover. LOL That works for me. I enjoy doing this sort of thing, so, that helps.

Swampy It IS a lot of work! Lots of dishes to do, too! LOL That’s ok, though. I’m bored if I don’t have anything to do around here. I’m not one to just sit around all day. That would drive me the rest of the way batshit insane. I’m not far from there now, as it is! Plus, borrowing FCM’s saying…
I’m nice, damnit!

One of Pretzel’s cousins has come to visit

Thank you everyone. You are all my cheerleaders. Daughter decided to hit the road as there was no reason for her to sit in the hotel. She is a real estate agent and can only do so much remotely. I stayed until almost 9. I did go fetch snacks and a sammich for myself and am now watching a most interesting and actually funny show about the 2000 election. I remember that time well. I was sitting in a hospital then with my dying mother. Sort of ironic.

Hubs is way better than described to me yesterday but is in no way out of the woods and won’t be until that heart valve is fixed and we still have the back injury. He is not even really requiring oxygen now at all as most of the time it’s not even in place or cockeyed but he is way too weak for any surgery. It’s not even being discussed.

It finally stopped raining here in Miami and I think at home. There were places that received over seven inches in the last few days. I think something is brewing. Daughter made it to Jax before she stopped. She said she went through bands of torrential rain that would last only five minutes. I think she was going through the tail end bands of Epsilon. I don’t even know the next name in the Greek alphabet.

Neighbor got my message and took care of my cat. She was going to leave a slider cracked and the screen door propped open so she can get inside in the event of any more thunderstorms. She is terrified
of thunderboomers. Neighbor also knows the kennel girl and she has nicknamed Buddy ‘gator which is funny as hubs calls him that sometimes. He is very protective of his toys and things.

Best of luck Hippie. I heard the most interesting thing about that condition one time on Sirius Doctor radio. Catching it early is key. You will be fine.

Came home from irk (only walked 5.5 miles today - a really light day) and in a brief fit of what can only be described as “irritated energy” I dealt with a lot of the accumulated crap from recent depression spike: I managed to put away the groceries & dry dishes from, like, a week ago … plus enough clean laundry to free up a hamper for dirties, which meant I could pick up everything off my bedroom floor.

… and had dinner in the oven, which means I can eat now!

Remind me tomorrow to tell y’all about how I started my day awoken by some surprise!! gentlemen callers, whose services I had requested over 4 months ago … and who frankly left me disappointed with the outcome of said services.
But, it’s not really their fault.

While I tell the tale, be prepared to clutch thy pearls, for strange menfolk were inside my home, while I was naked and showering. I was really not prepared to start my day this way, and it’s no wonder I got to work all discombobulated.

But for now, I’m tired & hungry and this pot pie ain’t just gonna eat itself.

It’s been a crazy coupla days here at Chateau Nellie. Nothing bad, just lots of phone calls. The moon must be in the House of Sprint or something.

I made beef stew with dumplings for dinner because I was craving it. I don’t eat beef very often, so it’s a real treat. I used my mother’s shortcut for dumplings. They were delicious.

Moooom, whatever made you think the sparkly-camo-curtains crew would follow orders?

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Time for the Sorting Hat Table!

What, pray tell, is the used meat pile? I think I missed something in the translation from Merrylande to English.

Currently sitting with my feet on the coffee espresso table. No shoes though.

Made a mistake and now have 6 containers of celery salt. Oops. Hubby’s been complaining that the available celery is too bitter, so I thought I’d try this as a flavor enhancer instead of plain salt and stop bothering with celery. The current celery has very small stalks and is dark green. If I see some celery with larger stalks and paler color, I will try celery again.

Today I will try one of my recipes for General Tso’s Chicken. As long as the results are somewhere in that direction, my husband will eat it.

{{{Butters and husband}}} Take care of yourself as well.

“Used meat” is my adorable term for that which has been reduced for quick sale before it’s past its sell-by date. And in this particular case, there was a pile of it - usually I just find one or two random packages. I guess my timing was just right yesterday.

I put the whole crock o’poke in the fridge last night and this morning I noticed the fat had hardened on top, so it’ll be easy to remove. I’ll shred the poke, add more BBQ sauce and onions to it, then make up freezer packs. Well, except for what we’ll have for tonight’s supper.

We got all our draft forms from the lawyer in yesterday’s mail and except for one change on my will, they’re ready for signature. I’ll call today to get the change made and set up an appointment for us to sign everything. Then I need to finish and submit the form to the Maryland Anatomy Board so they get my carcass when I’m done with it. After they’ve used what they can, they’ll cremate what’s left and return it to my family who, I hope, will spread my ashes in the Chesapeake Bay. I should probably make sure that’s not illegal.

And no, I’m not leaving anything to any of you, especially no CD’s for flytrap. :stuck_out_tongue:

And now, I’ll finish caffeinating before fetching the grandspawn. Happy Thursday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 67 Amurrkin out and fair (as opposed to unsightly?) with a predicted high of 85 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. No big items on today’s agenda so a day to piddle about and engage in sloth and shenanigans I suppose. Maybe I’ll make ‘nanner puddin’. Die mentioned General Tso’s Chikin. We haven’t had that in a while, so maybe we’ll swipe the General’s sup from the pretty good takeout place down the road. I feel that shall be a plan!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Good morning all. Up fairly early and looking at temperatures heading to 82F, so a good day appears to be in store. Need to pick up a new supply of bananas and coach soccer later today, otherwise just household chores on the schedule.

FCM, I guess I really need to see a lawyer about my will, but have never used one person-to-person (when I bought this house 23 years ago the realtor arranged all the legal stuff). Google is my friend, I guess.

shoe, here’s your reminder that we all (well, me) want to hear about these menfolk and showering and such goings-on…not that we’'re voyeurs or anything…

swampy, my condolences for the colonoscopy exam. You can’t do the newer ‘home test’ where you can send it in by mail/UPS?

Which reminds me, Blue Cross wants to send me a BP tester for free, just need my Doctor’s OK on it, so need to visit him. Because hey, free stuff.

All y’all have a good Thorsday.

Happy Thorsday!

Very foggy morning, 57 degrees now. The sun is coming out and clearing out the fog, supposed to get up to 79 today.

Skipped the park this morning, I thought I had too much to do, but we could have fit it in. Echo is at the vet’s office, poor girly. Ripple is home with me. We’re waiting for the lawn/fence/bathroom guy.
I got to bed late, overslept, and needed to get a shower before the tub gets ripped out. However, the shower could have waited until after I dropped off Echo.

I got my 50 trips in to qualify for the discount, and I see this morning that I had through today to get them all in.
Also caught up with two friends I hadn’t spoken to in months yesterday.

What I do today depends on what is going on with the bathroom. I’ve already washed one load of laundry, dried a load from yesterday, cleared a path for the bathtub, and the dishwasher is running.

Don’t know about Swampy, but I know neither I nor my dad are eligible, as we’re both on a 5 year cycle due to polyps.

Made the General Tsao’s chicken and actually deep-fried the chicken. I had never deep fried anything before, so I’m rather pleased with myself.

Now I have to filter the used oil for next time. And I’m considering buying a proper Dutch oven for future frying.

Even better, my husband really liked it. And I found a new recipe source.

When I read this I was concerned you’d hurt your shoulder. Then I thought what an amazing story that might make.

Ugh, having an IM argument with a conservative co-worker who’s very pro-Trump. Why am I expected to give “proof” when the dude just keeps throwing out far-right talking points?

Ah, well. That is what coffee and do not disturb are for.

and we are waiting

I texted the lawn/fence/bathroom guy and no response
Then I got a text saying to call him if I was mad
So I called him, even though I’m not mad
and now waiting for him to call back.

Quite annoying as I took off irk and thought he’d be here early.

Home from sorting. One of the packages was marked “Green Camouflage”, so @FairyChatMom just to let you know, your new drapes are out for delivery.
Also, the people at the Green loading doors are useless. As in “Couldn’t pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the bottom of the heel” useless. And my crayon got stolen again. Buncha savages in this town.

MetalMouse - just look for attorneys who do estate planning. That will help narrow your search.

I’ve skimmed and pulled the pork, removing the hunk of bone and several glops of fatty tissue. Then I added sauce and some seasonings to the pot. I’ll let it simmer a bit, then bag it up for the freezer, except for tonight’s supper, of course.

Interrupted for a trip to the playground. We had it all to ourselves, tho as we were leaving, 2 moms with toddlers arrived. Roxy has been lunched and tucked in for a nap. Now I’m waiting to hear from SIL to see if I need to go there or if the furniture will arrive before he has to go to work. Hope they deliver early…

And I’ve got 4 bags of pulled pork for future meals. If daughter and SIL were still living here, it would have been 2 bags. I’m liking this cooking for 2 stuff!

And I just got a text from SIL - the delivery guys are there now, so I don’t have to go there. And I won’t have to wake Roxy early. Huzzah and all that!

@Die_Capacitrix
A cast iron porcelain coated dutch oven is the most versatile cooking vessel you will ever own. Mine is a 5.5 quart Le Creuset. This brand name is a bit costly, but less expensive brands are available

Home Depot has a brand Tramontina available for $54.95.

Good, uh, morning y’all! (It’s 12:08 p.m. here. Shaddup.)
Continued yesterday’s “get shit done” mode by … picking up breakfast at Timmy Hort. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
Getting happily sucked into a “making of …” doc on Netflix about the filming of one of the David Attenborough specials. I’ve been pausing to re-watch a few scenes and talking to/at the T.V. while explaining finer points of zoology to Monkey.
It is nice to thoroughly enjoy something - anything - just for its own pure pleasure again.

My God, this sounds amazing. Want. Want so bad.

I have a few more things to accomplish before losing momentum for the day. Someone do the “@” thing at me and ask about yesterday’s absurd drama (I saw, Metal Mouse but I may not retain) so I get a Discourse reminder.

I have a pathological fear of forgetting to do a thing. (This fear is mostly borne out by long experience.)

ETA: my enameled cast iron Dutch oven is one of my most treasured possessions.

My aunt is having an outpatient medical procedure and I’m her driver so I’m sitting here waiting - in the same hospital where Ruble died. Ugh. :frowning:

And I’m finally having date #3 with my Gentleman Caller tomorrow night. I told a friend the other day that I’ve been too well behaved - he’s going to meet the real Old Wench soon.
