Creatures of Habit in the MMP

Donations dropped off and a few items purchased - I got a set of full sheets for the futon, so now I have 2 sets - yay! And I got a basket for bread because FCD was complaining about how messy our bread pile looked.

We’re heading to Salsa’s for lunch. Still no sign of the septic guys. And no answer at their office. Not urgent, but annoying nonetheless.

@Buttercup_Smith

I am so sorry for your troubles. We are all with you through this.

I’m so sorry Butters. Feel free to vent as needed in here.

Nothing much going on over here today. Being very grumpy about irk and their spectacular level of confusion, but that’s about it.

{{{{{Butters}}}}}

All my plans for the day changed.
I have drivewise on my phone, and I usually get about $90 discount on my car insurance every six months.
So I noticed last week that drivewise wasn’t irking and I thought I fixed it.
My phone keeps turning it off.
I tried to fix it again Moonday.
It still wasn’t recording my trips, even though it says it is irking.
I have 37 trips out of 50 completed and I need 13 trips done by tomorrow.
Only nobody can tell me if I need them by midnight tonight, or midnight tomorrow night.
I thought I had until November 1.

I was on the phone for an hour with allstate getting drivewise fixed.
Then I went out driving. I thought I drove 6 trips, but only three show up, so I have 10 more to go. Turns out that you have to drive at least 20 mph for a trip to count, and a few of my trips were across parking lots.
So I have been to Home Depot, Best Buy, a church, Lowes, Weis, and McDonalds.
I sit in the lot for about 5 minutes and drive to the next stop.

This is a pain, but if you don’t have at least 50 trips you don’t qualify for any discount.

So back out I go, making sure I get up to 20 mph.
I have 3 hours as I have to log in to irk at 7, but there will be two trips to pick up the dogs from daycare.

We had a nice lunch at Salsa’s. Shortly after we got home, the guys showed up to pump the septic tank, so that timing worked out. And I just finished steaming the dining room area rug - it’s pretty flat.

I got a shoulder butt from the used meat pile at Food Lion and it’s in the slow cooker, destined to become pulled poke. I also got a couple of used steaks and a container of used beef that will got into soup. Plus an unused chicken on sale. And some other stuff. It was a good shop.

I’ve remade the futon and I’ve got a second set of sheets in the washer - they’re probably done and ready for the dryer now. I expect we’re not going to have a real supper. We’ll just graze. It’s a nice day and the house is open, the sun is shining, and Higgs is looking out the window, quietly, amazingly enough.

I got up later than planned, threw my bed clothes into the wash as I had done most of the other laundry yesterday. I hightailed it to the bank to get the maid’s money out of hubby’s account and he had cash in his wallet there so I skipped the ATM and went to the gas station where all the cheap gas was sold out. I declined the expensive stuff as I had a quarter tank. Went back home, grabbed some clothes the maid had just folded, grabbed buddy for his walk and off we went. I called the vet to make sure they could (would) take him as I had left a message last night. They took him. Now it’s been raining here for about four days and I dislike driving in the rain but what yo gonna do.

Dropped off Buddy sans muzzle and with only a half trank on board. He is getting used to the kennel girl Georgina but he still was not happy. She took the leash and I carried him inside the door then the tech came with the paperwork to sign. Poor Buddy was not happy but at least I know he will be alive.

Back on the road for about 38 miles until it was raining so hard I had to pull into the hurricane memorial at Islamorada (1935 hurricane that destroyed Flager’s overseas railway). I sat there til it eased a bit and made it to the only Starbucks in 80 miles for a coffee. Later I saw there was a bad accident that closed the roadway 2 miles back so I was lucky there. I got gas at the cheap place and creeped on up the island chain so a 2 1/2 or 3 hour trip turned into 5 hours. Met daughter in the hallway as they ran her out when I showed up. Made it clear it’s one or the other, not both.

She gave me a report. Dr said blood looks better today and breathing is improved using only a nasal cannula. He is clear headed and was happy to see me. He has been sleeping off and on since I’ve been here. He is on fluid restrictions and ate a fruit cup and some ice chips. He doesn’t care for the Latin flair to the food. I will walk the mile to the cafeteria in a bit and snag him some snacks. Neighbor is tending the cat and the rain continues. I am taking the room I had already paid for daughter and re up it for another two days. I am happy his breathing is eased as I know what it’s like not to be able to breath as I was asthmatic as a child. It’s been 39 months since I quit smoking but the urge has been strong with all the stress. I shall not relent. At least there is free wifi here and one of those dastardly chairs that is sort of a recliner. Daughter said they will not allow one to stay past nine pm so at least I don’t have to try to sleep in it. I have done many nights in one of these chairs but no more when there is a very nice Hilton in rock throwing distance.

Thanks for all the hugs and love. I have sat here and cried the entire time I’ve been here but I feel better being here.

I’m slouching and refusing to use a coaster.

I found the ‘new’ license plate for my stolen-and-recovered motorcycle – still in the envelope, with a 2012 tag on it. It seems I’d been putting the registration tags on the expired plate. I found out that we no longer have to get new metal plates every seven years, so I can still use the old new plate. Anyway, the tag is current; I need to put the plate on the bike.

I’m making burritos for dinner. I defrosted the meat, and then Mrs. L.A. started defrosting them more. When she went outside I looked at the microwave oven. It had been going for a couple of minutes, and still had almost nine minutes left on the timer. :grimacing: The plastic was ballooned up, and the meat was cooking. So even though it’s not even 2 o’clock, I’ve started cooking.

Glad the hubs is feeling better and that y’all had meaningful interaction. That must have been a difficult drive.

Not to be a PITA, but what’s up with this? Whose benefit is this policy for? And if these are COVID precautions, again I ask, for whose benefit? How can it hurt anyone if you and Daughter are in the room at the same time? And if you both are in there, what are they going to do-- call the cops? Sorry, but he needs his people with him.

My husband was hospitalized many times (20 times in our 10-year marriage, more than half of those stays in the ICU, sometimes for a week or more) and no one ever asked me to leave his room at any time of the day or night, or told me that “visiting hours were over,” or any of the stuff you see in movies. For close family, there were no set visiting hours.

I hurt all over for you, and I can so relate to (not understand completely, of course, but relate to) the immense stress you’re under.

Me too. AND I have my bare feet up on the couch.

OOOOOOO, you two are gonna be on THE LIST WHEN MOOOOOOOMMMMM! gets back! :open_mouth:

Butters, I’m wishing your husband, you, and your entire family, peace. I’m so sorry to hear this news.

Hippy, I’m sorry about your ordeal that you’re dealing with! I’m also wishing you the very best throughout it all.

Good evening. I hope everyone is doing ok. Things are moving along ok, around here, I think.

Yesterday afternoon, a friend came by, and asked me to make him a batch of Antipasto, and a batch of beef jerky. So, I hauled myself to the store EARLY this morning, and actually found two cases of canning jars, and I bought all the stuff to make his Antipasto. I ended up with 27 half pints, 4 pints, one of the 1 1/2 qt. jars, and 1 quart jar. The quart, and the 1 1/2 qt. are being sent to Wisconsin, to my cousin. I hope they survive the trip. I guess I’ll write ‘FRAGILE’ on the box, and make sure the jars are bubble wrapped REALLY well. Always something. Anyway, I’m waiting for the last canner load of it to process, and I’m done! WHEEEE!

Tomorrow, I’ll get the beef jerky going. I already have it marinating, and it has been since this morning. It’ll keep marinating until tomorrow morning, when I hang it, and dry it.

So, that’s about it for me. Almost time to relax, and unwind a bit.

Have a peaceful night!

{{{{{Butters}}}}} When my brother-in-law was dying, my sister learned hospital rules, even COVID ones, are not cast in stone, especially when a patient is in the final stages of a condition. My sister was allowed one 30-minute visit, period. But when he lingered, they relented and allowed her another visit and let her stay almost an hour. The doctor carries a lot of weight, but so does the head nurse for that floor. Keep pushing.

Also, while there are a million practical matters to figure out, i hope you can reassure yourself you’ll be able to handle them as the time comes so you can process all the emotional stuff now.

I hope it’s OK that I’m praying for you and your family. Maybe think of it as good thoughts sent upwards as well as outwards.

{{{butters and hubby}}} May your remaining time together be meaningful, no matter how long it is.

It looks like I’m back to irk tomorrow. I still feel a bit puny, but the fever is gone, I tested negative and the coughing is a little more controlled.

Evening all. Pretty bland day, did a few soccer things and house irk and watched the real football (not tackleball) for a couple hours. Just ate my BLT’s for dinner, so stomach is a happy place.

Butters, glad it isn’t quite as dire as you thought, make sure you are taking care of yourself too at this time.

nona, must be a very good friend to be doing all that shopping and prep work for them. Hope you’re getting compensated.

Sari, is that 50 trips per month? I’d figure between the dog park and the vet you’d have that beat easily. Hope the system starts recording right.

OK, everybody take care.

You just delight in being contrary, don’t you? :face_savoring_food:

Roxy’s bedroom furniture is scheduled for delivery tomorrow overlapping the time when SIL has to leave for work, so I’ll be taking Roxy there after lunch. So she probably won’t nap. She’ll be a real delight tomorrow night. Not my problem, tho.:laughing::laughing:

{{{Butters}}} Hang in there…

Howdy Y’all! Been a kinda bzzy day what with layin’ in provisions, doc visit and such. I reluctantly agreed to get scheduled for a colonoscopy. I need to do that, so I shall, alas. I will be called with details. Also, she wants me to go for an echocardiogram, as she says she detected a very slight heart murmur. So, that too shall get scheduled. Gettin’ older ain’t for sissies or the feint of heart! We supped leftovers and chillage has ensued. ‘Nanner puddin’ keeps gettin’ talked about. I suppose that means I shall have to make one real soon. Once ‘nanner puddin’ gets talked about, nuttin’ will do but to make it happen.

{{{Butters}}} hang in there and as others have said, take care of yourself.

ace you are a nice person to do all that. Sounds like a lot of work!

sari hope the drive thingy is workin’ OK now.

The drive thingy is not irking properly, but it is irking.
MetalMouse, it’s 50 trips in 6 months. Not hard to do at all if the damn thing would irk.
It was my phone that turned it off, but it has been active since Moonday and it should be irking.

It’s irking a bit, but I took 6 trips this afternoon and only 3 showed up.
I did at least 7 this evening and only 4 are showing up on the computer and 5 are showing up on my phone.
I know I drove at least 20 mph because I went out to RT 40 and drove to different stores, and even went down to sit in the hospital parking lot.

I’m really tired of my new phone too. Turning off apps willy nilly and not wanting to stay connected to my blue tooth, or the truck.

{{{Butters}}} You can only do so much, so do what is most important for now.
