Crunchy Frog....Care to Make a Bet?

Just one serious picture [sub]the pain, the pain[/sub] and then the funs begins…
Damn it Crunchy, if you win, you’re posting the picture. I will not have the picture on my webpage. A picture of me wearing a replica WWF Championship belt, maybe, but not a Cards hat.

[sub]It’s a wrestling page, dammit![/sub]

BTW…not only am I hoping LaRussa makes his usual bad call re Benes, I’m thinking of ways to torture the hat, just in case.

Or, as we realists, would say, you’re planning for the inevitable.

You just keep thinking that way. I have faith.
[sub]and bite me[/sub]

Pitcher immediately springs to mind. Called Rube because he was about as smart as a baseball.

New York Giants? Won 30 games the year they won 40? I have it in the back of my mind that someone did that.

Or did Rube Marquard pitch for the Giants with Christy Matthewson?

I need sleep. I also need to review my Conlon Collection.

Rube Waddell was a pitcher, played most notably for the Philadelphia A’s, most games he ever won in a season was 27. You’re right about the reason he got his name though, he wasn’t going to be a Mensa member by any stretch. There are stories that Rube Waddell would be distracted by opposing batters when the batters held up shiny objects. He loved fire trucks and had to be physically restrained from leaving the field during the game if he heard one.

Rube Marquard pitched for the Giants, but never won 30 games (won a career-hihg 26 in 1912). He got his name (IIRC) because his pitching style reminded people of Waddell, not because of any mental deficiencies on his part.

I don’t know about anyone winning 30 games while the team only won 40, but the 1901 NY Giants only won 52 games and 20 of the wins went to Christy Mathewson.

So, if I understand correctly, if you win, one picture of the hat on my head. The rest can be pictures of me using the hat as an ashtray, running over it with a Zamboni, maybe a picture of it on my ass? [sub]Nah, you’d like that, wouldn’t you?[/sub]

IIRC the highest percentage of wins since 1900 by a single pitcher was when Steve Carlton won 27 for a pathetic Phillies team that won 59. Think it was 27-9, 1.98, 310K c. 1972.

BTW, what scrub team traded him away?

Series tied, one all…after a tight ninth inning, the glorious Cubs won.
<sniff>
Gee, you can smell Crunchy pouting. Especially after the message I left on his answering machine, hehehehehe.
hardygrrl, still keeping the faith…

Update

Cubs took the series after a two hr game by Sosa today.

Now to get through the Astros…
BTW, if/when I win, I’ll post the picture here for all to see.

My first guess was the Mets, but they’re the team he stunk for in 1986, right?

I don’t remember. I really should, to. And I’m not going to look this one up to look smart (done so before for other trivia threads).

This just in. Cardinals.

And hardygrrl, just wait until the Cubs play the Braves. Then Crunchy Frog will be able to prematurely cheer for three days:D

[sub]Thanks for refreshing my memory, Dave.[/sub]

’punha

The Cubs will prevail. I have faith.
[sub]I’d tell you to bite me too, but why make your day? ;)[/sub]

Did you have faith back a few years aho when they played the Braves in the first round and got swept?

I’ll just let the Cubs do the biting:)

Like I said before, 'punha my pet, I’ve been a Cubs fan for 28 years. I’m eternally faithful and optimistic.

Just because we gave you Maddux (that trade STILL pisses me off) is no reason to mock the Cubbies. You should be grateful.

[sub]and bite me, Braves fan[/sub]

Hea, as long as the Cubbies can keep winning maybe I’ll actually have a reason to watch baseball in Sept.

This is the first time I can recall in my 10 years or so of being a Cubs fan that I’ve really had something to cheer about and look forward to
Go Cubs go!

Thanks kinoons

From the OP, who recently called me claiming that the Cards would have to succeed in winning the World Series in order for her to have to owe on the full 4 parts of the bet:

Ok, hardygrrl, as you can see, the bet revolves solely around how the Cubs perform. The only part involving the Cards is whether the Cards have a better record than the Cubs or not.

As far as the bet goes, I made no claims that the Cards would make the playoffs, go to the series or win the series. The bet was that the Cubs would do these things, and has nothing to do with the Cardinals (except for #1). Just a bump since on the phone you were talking about welching out on me.

To recap what the bets are:
Number One - the loser must use a sig line written by the winner. Let’s put a time limit on this, shall we? Until the end of the post-season?
Number Two - respectful picture wearing the other team’s hat
Number Three - the loser must write an OP singing the praises of the winner’s team. And no sarcasm or jokes or rolling eyed smilies.
Number Four - the loser takes out a ad in the classified section of the winner’s hometown newspaper admitting the error of their ways and proclaiming the winner’s greatness.

You’re gonna owe up on all 4 counts, lady. I hope you enjoy your new hat and I’ll be e-mailing you the contact information for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch presently.

hardygrrl,

Don’t EVER bet on the Cubs.

Crunchy, Crunchy, Crunchy… You called me a lady? And after having talked to me on the phone more than once? hehehehehehehehehehehe
Ok, I’ll admit it, I bought a Cards hat, just in case.

Hardygrrl
Well, so will I. haha  You do know the Braves are also in a penant race, sorry.

Don’t get me wrong I’d love to see the Cubbies get to the playoffs, and if the Braves weren’t going all the way this year I’d like to see Chicago do it.

oh by the way thanks for Maddux his been great, tell us when your ready to trade Sosa

Bite me, Nicklz
If it’s not Crunchy Frog rubbing salt in the gaping Maddux wound…and now here comes Nicklz to spit lemon juice in it.
::sob::
