Bearing in mind that Wikipedia’s content is member-generated, it was undoubtedly added by some person who either wanted to be “first in” to add Hochul to the article, or was making a joke.
My understanding from reporting is that for the most part they really didn’t want to go there, but Cuomo was forcing their hand. I suspect they’ll breathe a sigh of relief and let it go, unless he starts prevaricating some more.
It could be just to ensure an orderly transition to the Lieutenant Governor. I mean, he may still feel responsible and he’s generally a good leader, with some awful exceptions.
This is certain to short-circuit the impeachment, nobody wants to have to go through all of that for a guy who’s already gone. And I’m sure that was part of Cuomo’s calculation.
One thing to keep in mind is that Cuomo has (as of last month) an $18 million campaign warchest that he can hold onto and bide his time. He’s “only” 63. If things go to shit with the delta variant and the economy tanks, people may well start to look back on his Governorship with fondness.
I watch a lot of CNN and everyone except Chris Cuomo has been reporting on Andrew Cuomo. They seem to have been objective. Chris doesn’t say anything at all which I think is the right approach.
I agree. However, I could see the argument that he should say this out loud, that he does not feel it would be proper to comment or cover this story. The choice in what to cover can also be biased.
There definitely were people who seemed to think he was avoiding talking about it for less scrupulous reasons. Granted, I would argue these were attempts at a smear, not legitimate concerns, but some people believed them.
I see it as a move in retroactive support of Trump’s second impeachment. If they stopped impeachment hearings just because Cuomo is no longer in office, then people might say that Trump’s second impeachment was similarly pointless.
Could be. It’s also insurance that Cuomo won’t try to reneg—saying something like ‘I’ve spoken to so many who feel that I can best serve the people of NY by staying, after all.’
Apparently impeachment at the state level requires bureaucratic steps that take time to accomplish; by continuing the process, they can jump immediately to the impeachment vote, should Cuomo try to cling to power.
There was more to it than that. Chris Cuomo was reported to be talking privately to Andrew, offering him advice on the matter, and in particular insider advice on how to handle the press and the publicity. That was seen as a serious conflict of interest in his behavior and in CNN’s tolerating it.
He did respond to that and he did say it was a mistake and apologized. However, I didn’t see a problem with it. Can anyone explain why it was a problem for him to consult with his brother?
Cuomo the Younger is an insider in the news broadcasting industry. One of the principles of journalism is to report from the point of view of a “disinterested” outside observer (unless you’re doing Op-Ed I suppose), and the journalist is NOT supposed to make himself part of the story.
But Cuomo the Younger, as an insider in the field, has all kinds of inside information and understanding. By advising his Big Brother on how to deal with it, he makes himself part of the story, and that’s a big no-no in journalism.
