Curious about your gas prices

At $A.89/l and $A 1 = $US 0.61 and gallon = 3.84l, that’s $5.60 a gallon. Eek.

If I go to te cheap gas place in Virginny (where I work), its $1.54 (and 9/10ths). If I forget and have to buy gas on Capitol Hill (where I live) its $1.89. No gouging there…

The price has settled at around C$.75 per litre (for now). Premium is costing about C$.10 more per litre.

1 US gallon = 3.785411784 l
So it costs us C$2.84 per US gallon.

Bank of Canada is posting an exchange rate of 0.677690 which gives us U$1.92 per US gallon

We’ve commute in a yuppie-type sport-ute, and we fill up every 5 days at $50 a shot. I don’t know how we continue to afford this…

I thought we were really getting screwed here, but is comforting (?!) to know that we’re not the only ones…

North side Chicago:

$2.59 for the cheap grade

On Memorial Day weekend, the station on the corner jacked it up to $2.79 !!

I did a little more checking, and it seems that we Illinoisans may well be somewhat responsible for our own exorbitant gas prices. If anyone really wants them, I’ll try to find cites (what, am I in GD here?), but apparently our state legislators forced the gas producers to add our Illinois ethanol to their gas. While making it a cleaner burning fuel (supposedly), it’s more expensive than some of the other additives.

In Nashville we’re running at $1.50-1.60 for regular unleaded. I gassed up my minivan yesterday to the tune of $30. That should last me a week. I drive an average of 400 miles per week.

StG

$2.19 a gallon in Detroit, where I work.

75.3 cents a litre in Windsor, Ontario, where I (almost) live.

75.3/litre = $2.87/gallon, but that’s Canadian dollars.

$2.87 Canadian = $1.94 US

I paid $1.61/gallon for 89 grade the other day at one of the more pricey spots; cheapest I’ve seen here in Southern California is $1.56/gallon.

Highest I saw it go this year was $1.75. It dropped down to about $1.40 before inching back up again. Fortunately, I drive a 5-speed Honda Civic much like UncleBeer (not a hatchback, though), so it’s not affecting me too much.

How about y’all with SUVs?

$1.99 better stuff, mid-california. Note on the news today they said they couldn’t find any reason why gas prices should be high.

I filled up for 1.499 today in Baton Rouge, LA, and that was for the cheap Circle-K stuff.

It’s almost time to trade in the F-150 for something a lot more fuel effecient.

It’s up to $1.77/gal. here in Kansas. Last week it was $1.62! Some of our “big bosses” here at work have been writing congressional members, the governor, Lt. governor, and the U.S. Department of Energy, to urge an aggressive investigation into price manipulation and increases. Hopefully something will be done soon to bring down these prices! I spend about $20.00 to fill up my car and I have to fill up every 5-6 days.

At Unocal 76, it’s $1.49 for 87 octane and $1.59 for 89 here in L.A.; Huntington Beach to be exact.

I have CDN$225.00 in my billfold. I wish I could get 67.77! I went to Bank of America, and they said 67 cents is the wholesale rate. If I want to trade for American dollars, they only pay $0.63. Then they charge a 3% fee on top of that! Other places I’ve tried down here are the same.

I’ll just save it for my next trip to Canada.

I gave the local gas stations too much credit, believing they could actually keep the price the same two straight days.

Upon going out, I see we’re now up another dime. Make that $2.20 a gallon for regular unleaded.

Random acts of terrorism will soon ensue in the Upper Midwest, I suspect.

Here in Boise: $1.599 to $1.619 for regular unleaded at the name brand stations, not the cheapies.
I drive 48 miles one way to work, and get between 25 and 33 mpg, depending on weather and which vehicle I drive (headwinds are hell).

Coldy, I sympathize; even with the way rates have gone up, we still don’t pay what Europeans have to! I’m very glad of that, and try not to whine.

I also find it somewhat amusing that some people think that the EPA can regulate what it costs to refine crude!

There may be some temporary respite to these prices…the US just opened up our SPR to a few refineries in La. Thew reasons for that are simply the fact that they didn’t want the refineries to shut down. A dry dock collapsed and has been blocking the shipping channels so no new shipments of Oil could come in. The market has dropped 3-5% today as a result of this release. Your local prices may not change much, but if this continues they will come back down…perhaps not for long.

$2.189 at the cheapest station in downtown Chicago (South Loop Marathon: Located between Taylor and Roosevelt streets on Canal Street) as of yesterday (6/15/00) For comparison, it was in the mid $1.50s about a month ago.

Been looking around for years, and this station is CONSISTANTLY the cheapest in the city limits. For a quick comparison, the Amoco station on the corner of Canal and Roosevelt is $2.279 and the one on the corner of Des Plaines and Taylor is $2.539. Each is within line-of-sight of the above Marathon.

I would guess than on average, the price in the city limits is around $2.25 a gallon or so, and the price in the suburbs being about 20 cents less.

I paid $2.20 last weekend in Chicago.

Now that I’m home in Omaha, I’ve seen it spike up from $1.45 at the beginning of the week to around $1.76-$1.85 everywhere I’ve checked today. At 20 mpg, it’s definitely noticeable in the old pocketbook. Still, I think it’s better than many places overseas. Hopefully it’ll all calm back down soon!

$1.639 this morning for the low-grade Texaco. The no-name places are cheaper, but I’m friends with the owners of the Texaco. Gotta give 'em my well earned money.
