Colorado checking in:
1.779 for premium across the way from my house. 1.879 for premier up in Boulder where I work. But! We always have ethanol in our gas (at least in the winter; I can’t remember if they stopped getting rid of it in the summer), so if we didn’t, our gas prices would probably be pretty good.
I got gas the other day for $28.75 for a tank. I’ve got a Cadillac Sedan DeVille, so it doesn’t get great mileage, but not too bad (22.5 at last check). I’m surely not hurting as much as a lot of these SUV drivers out there.
And Coldfire, shut yer yap about the exorbitant price you pay for gas. I’ll bet my daily commute would get me a good distance across your fair country. If I only had to drive five miles to get anywhere I wanted to go, I’d consider paying $4.50 a gallon, too.
Checking in from San Antonio, Tx. First of all, Coldy, I’m tired of hearing you gripe at us about our grumbling. Have your gas prices all but doubled in a few months? I thought not. Also, I’d bet you make a lot more money than a great many of us here. Why do you think Mr Bear is so far away from us right now? Money. For doing the same thing he was doing here, his pay almost quadrupled by going to UAE. So, I don’t want to hear it.
Just this year alone, since March, the gas prices around here have gone from $1.08 a gal for regular unleaded to $1.46 a gal for same, at the same stations. the one I go to most often, right now is around $1.35 a gal. for reg. unleaded. With a 20gal tank, and about 25mpg for my minivan, that is starting to add up. I’ve gone from $16-17 to fill it to $27 or more to fill up the tank. I may not be working right now, but playing Mom’s Taxi is getting old, let me tell you.
Not that long ago (maybe 10 days) there was about a 10 cent difference between the cheap and the expensive stations (leaving out those isolated stations out in the wealthier parts of the suburbs that charged whatever they pleased). In the last five days or so that’s tightened up so everyone is charging nearly the same.
Here in Michigan, a gasoline pipeline burst outside of Jackson on June 9th. That’s supposedly the reason for the out-of-control prices here. Mlive.com has a story about it, in their “NewsFlash” section. I tried to link to it, but it didn’t work.
They also say that the prices are expected to drop sharply by the end of summer, to the tune of about 70 cents a gallon. Just hope that doesn’t mean they’ll be dropping from $3.00 to $2.10.
As of last night, my favorite gas station was at $2.09 a gallon for regular. Haven’t checked today. I’m scared.
Essentially $2.00/gal for 87 octane here in the Akron/Cleveland area today.
Our local talk-radio station has many an irate caller, of course. They all blame the EPA for the reformulated gasoline requirement. They say the EPA claims it should cost an additional 6-9 cents/gal. But those of us in an EPA regulated area(Chicago/Detroit/Northern Ohio, etc.) notice a 30-40 cent differential from the rest of the US.
The talk radio squirrels also say that the price of diesel fuel was “frozen” a while back to keep the truckers from revolting. Is this true? I notice that diesel is rather cheeper than gasoline.
This market would not be affected by the pipeline downtime or the EPA gasoline requirements, but should be affected, ultimately, by the price of crude. It’s interesting to note that price of diesel appears to have peaked in March and is heading down over the last month.
Actually Coldfire, you might go for yet another model Honda: the Insight. It’s got a gas/electric hybrid engine that gives you upwards of 70 miles per gallon. This is the first year it’s been available for us in the US.
I’m on the west coast of Florida, just south of Tampa. I just got gas and paid 1.559 for regular. We had a huge price increase a month or so ago, then prices started going down. The Powers That Be must have heard of give a cheer because gas has been steadily going up since then.
What are our PEMEX friends south of the border charging/gouging for 87 octane?
I remember the last gas crisis-I lived in L.A.-you had to wait in line to buy $10.00 worth - but over the line in Tijuana, you could buy all you wanted for less than 1/2 the American price!
