DUKE BB on a Suns plate. Pining for college ball but settling for the local pros?
I’m back home from my travels & have scored a few. None too exciting:
-
LINA⎵11 on a FL standard plate on a generic crossover. Presumably the nickname / diminutive form of the name of the woman driving.
-
TECH⎵PR on a FL standard plate on a Ford Mustang of the high performance extra noisy flavor. He’s a shill for the tech industry?
-
LYN⎵PIPE on a FL standard plate on a SUV. Maybe they own a pipe-lining company. That’s a big business down here as all the cast iron plumbing installed in the 1960s - 1970s building boom ages out and crumbles to rust. Or her name is some form of Lyn. I didn’t get a look at the driver.
-
PAW⎵LUV on a FL standard plate on a crossover. Parked near a dog groomer’s storefront. I wonder whether the car owner is a customer or worker there? One or the other almost for sure. The car parked next to it had also had a personal plate that was sorta interesting, but I can’t remember what it said. But they did have a “Say Hi to your dog for me” bumper sticker.
-
K1TB⎵SFR on a FL standard plate on a pickup truck. Presumably a respelling of “Kite Surfer” with all the closer alternatives already taken.
-
BMLR⎵GMA on a Virginia standard plate on a geezer crossover. I’m betting GMA is “grandma”. My first thought was BMLR is “Baltimore” (pronounced “bawlmer” in the local dialect). But that’d be BLMR, not BMLR. Lysdexic much?
Maybe B, M, L, & R are the initials of her (first?) 4 grandkids? Or the family name is something akin to “Boehmler?”
Or “Layin’ Pipe.” Which is also a euphamism for having sex.
D’oh! ![]()
I hadn’t heard that one in so long I had completely forgotten it. Nice way to sneak past the censors.
Yesterday I saw CHOGOPY on a pickup in the parking lot at work (I don’t recall the make/model). I have no clue what that means, but there was a USC Trojans frame if that means anything.
This morning I saw BADDCAM on a customized Toyota Camry. I never thought I’d see the word “bad” used to describe the Camry, but according to Google apparently “Tuner Camrys” are a thing.
Bright red Corvette C8 with GEORGE. Not sure if that’s the name of the owner or of the car.
L7WEENY - L7 is old slang for square, not sure what “Square Weeny” would mean.
My brain went more to a racist slur rather than a double entendre. MX meaning Mexican. I like yours and @icon’s ideas better.
Anyways, I saw DOKO17 in the parking garage today. No idea there.
Seen today, NEWLIFE on a white sedan and YUNIQU3 on a red Tesla whose driver looked ordinary. But who knows, maybe they’re unique in a non-visible way.
“Newlife” or “New life” seems to be a buzzword for Christian religious based recovery counseling for addicts and depressives and whatnot who’ve f-ed up the life they have now.
Interesting. Mexican never occurred to me despite having grown up very near there, and knowing MX as the country code and MXP as the currency code. Different minds make different connections.
If the “MX” on the plate does mean “Mexican”, good bet it’s used ironically / defiantly by someone of Mexican heritage.
I thought that NEWLIFE might have a Christian connection, but they didn’t have any bumper stickers or decals or crosses. I have to admit that I kept reading it NEWFIE, and was thinking of my friends from Newfoundland who joke about themselves as “goofy Newfies”.
TOTZ RN on a BMW 430i. I’m guessing a pediatric nurse.
In The Sandlot that exact insult is hurled by Squints at Smalls, the non-athletic newcomer to the group.
8KBEUTY On a black Silverado pickup with a “Black Beauty” vinyl in the rear window. I’m guessing the less tortured combos were long gone.
Another reason for me to finally watch that movie. All I know is “You’re killing me, Smalls” and I have no context for it.
It’s a repeated line when Smalls – his actual last name, not a nickname like the established gang – shows ignorance, which is often.
Ham: Hey, you wanna s’more?
Smalls: Some more of what?
Ham: No, do you wanna s’more?
Smalls: I haven’t had anything yet, so how can I have some more of nothing?
Ham: You’re killin’ me Smalls! These are s’more’s stuff! Ok, pay attention. First you take the graham, you stick the chocolate on the graham. Then you roast the 'mallow. When the 'mallows flaming… you stick it on the chocolate. Then cover with the other end. Then you scarf. Kind of messy, but good! Try some!
Saw just a couple last night & today:
-
GUAAP on a FL standard plate on a generic sedan. GAAP is Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and would be a good stand-in for “I’m a CPA”. But the U kinda wrecks that idea. GUA is a common code / abbreviation for Guatamala. At first glance I thought it said Guam something, but that’s just wrong. I have no good ideas; just bad ones.
-
GOOGY on an out-of-state plate on a boring sedan. A nickname or they’re a fan of Googie architecture - Wikipedia or ???
Best for last
- DFBCH on a FL 5-character off-roading booster plate on a Jeep with sand tires, lights, etc. The secret is that I saw it in Deerfield Beach, a coastal 'burb near here. DFB or DF Beach are common monikers for the city.
NAAKA1 No clue. It was a US Army plate so maybe some esoteric acronym.
LOVE ME2 Pretty plain meaning but it was on a childhood cancer research plate.
I usually don’t go into the office on Fridays but I had to go in today. At least I was rewarded with a decent haul of plates.
800KER Couldn’t figure this one out until they pulled a little ahead of me. “Booker”
AYANDY in the parking garage as I was leaving.
I had to run to the post office on my way home and saw WIN II on a car with Turning Point USA bumper stickers and B1G0TRY on a truck in the parking lot.
I didn’t know you worked near iiandyiiii. ![]()
