Custom Licence Plates — Seen in the Wild

GMAGPA on a minivan in the grocery store parking lot. None of my grandparents ever drove a minivan.

U C F B on some crossover. My first thought is University of California something, but I’m not sure what the F B would be. Fresno/Bakersfield? Is there such a school?

Seen on one of Wisconsin’s Road America plates this afternoon: FOYT.

Given that the plate commemorates the road racing track in east-central Wisconsin, and that the two stickers in the rear view window were (1) the outline of the Road America course, and (2) the number 14, in the numbering style for a race car, and which was the usual car number for legendary auto racer A.J. Foyt, the owner of the car is clearly a racing fan, and an A.J. Foyt fan.

Also, TIL that Foyt is still alive, at age 91.

Now that I’m home and am able to research this more, no, there is no UC campus in Fresno or any other city that starts with F. So I don’t think UC is University of California in this case. But what does it mean?

I remember him retiring. Which was some years after his all-conquering heyday.

I too am surprised to hear he’s still alive. Probably quite the handful.

“UC” can be “you see”. As to “FB” …

How about “face book”, “Ford Bronco”, somebody named “Fred Brown” or “Francine Bowman”, ???

Football was what came to my mind. Either kind.

On a VW ID.4 electric SUV: PUGSLEE. If Pugsley Addams was a car, it might look like that.

Oh yeah. And going back to my original idea, University of California Football would fit.

WHLTREE on a Toyota Highlander. Wheel tree? What the heck is a wheel tree?

PITMOM on a small black SUV this morning. Either she has a pit bull or her kid plays one of the sideline instruments in a marching band field show.

SKI on a white Honda CRV

Whole tree?

I got nuthin’

DRKCORE Googling came up with a lot of hits ranging from UK rave music to a game that didn’t do well. Who can tell?

And tonight I saw another one I can’t decipher:

DBRTHLA on a new looking Honda. “D Birth LA”? “Deborah the LA”?

On a white Silverado pickup: CHVYPRL Chevy, yes, but after that? Parole? Pearl? I got nuthin’.

A few this morning:

SEME4RE on a Lexus crossover. A assume it’s “semaphore”, although the “RE” on the end strikes me as a bit redundant. The could have just spelled it “SEME4” (but I bet that was taken).

MSBELKE on a Lincoln Nautilus. The driver is Ms. Belke, I presume.

GRABNIT on a Toyota Tacoma. Grabin’ it. Sounds a little creepy.

Ran out of room before they could make it CHVYPRNDL? :slightly_smiling_face:

RYNO8 on a black truck in the parking garage today. Either the driver was the 8th person to want a Ryne Sandberg tribute or they’re also a fan of Andre Dawson.

DOODAH - not sure what it means but I like it.
