WILCO in the parking garage at work
Surely on a car owned by Roger, yes?
I don’t have any co-workers named Roger but I thought the same thing.
Haven’t seen this car before either.
It would have been worth tons of bonus points if it’d been in the parking garage in these buildings:
Or, a fan of the band. ![]()
On a white SUV, PORT MOM. This is straightforward to locals: There’s a North Shore village on Long Island by the name of Port Washington, but commonly known simply as “Port.” (Another village, Port Jefferson, further out on the island has to make do with “Port Jeff.”) Likely the mother of a kid or kids who go to the Port schools.
On a huge SUV that didn’t want to play nice at a high speed merge and nearly ran me off the road: 4HOGWASH. Well, that’s a nice version of what I thought of their driving ability, but what they were really going for is obscure to me.
TIME 418 Toking a bit early?
DSNY WDW Oddly enough no frames, decals, or any other paraphernalia about The Mouse.
UA ZEUS on something like a Subaru Forrester or something. There were some sort of decals on the vehicle that might have explained it, I’m pretty sure they contained the word “Zeus” as well, but I couldn’t read them while driving.
TRUBLUE on some forgettable sedan with a CA “whale tail” plate. A reference to blue whales, perhaps? Or fans of JetBlue’s frequent flyer program?
Might also be a Dodgers fan, as blue (a shade named “Dodger blue”) is one of their primary uniform colors, and several fan sites use “Blue” in their names.
A Ford F-150 pickup with AZTCFRE. I’m guessing Aztec Fire and an SDSU fan.
HTWILLZ A lawyer? Someone named William? And then I got it… the car was a tiny blue Toyota coupe. Slightly funny spelling, but Hot Wheels.
MAO
I hope that’s their name, and not their politics.
Maybe they have cats
I know one person w the Mao surname. Google says there’s about 2.5 million Maos in China. Here?
DGDAWG
A white Chevy Silverado pickup: ACE HI (Which brought to mind Travis McGee’s The Busted Flush.)
EEYON on a RAV4. I have no idea what that means.
A couple of good ones today. GLDNGRLS and IM WIRED. Those I can make sense of but I also saw GL19N20 in a parking lot and I’ve got no clue on that one.
Now that I’m back in-country for awhile I’m seeing plates again.
BAFERD⎵B on a FL standard plate on a BMX X6 luxo-crossover. I don’t be bafer’d, but I do be baffled. ![]()
DEFENS on a FL standard plate on a Range Rover. Plays defense in a pro sport? Is a successful defense attorney?
BETSI⎵J on a FL standard plate on a generic crossover. Hi Betsy!
TDEED on a FL 5-character Florida college booster plate on a nice shiny pickup truck. Presumably the driver played football for the college and is quite proud of his scoring.
COTT2BG on a FL standard plate on a Lexus sedan. I have no idea. I’m sure I got it right; I saw it while walking through a parking lot and took my time to write it down.
CP⎵⎵⎵29 on a FL standard plate on a Volvo crossover. The 29th unimaginitive person w initials CP? Initials CP & got the plate for their 29th birthday?
It’s a close copy (D-FENS) of a vanity plate in Falling Down, a 1993 film with Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall. The former is a laid-off defense worker who snaps and goes on a murderous rampage while the latter is a detective on his last day before retirement trying to stop him.
