Custom Licence Plates — Seen in the Wild

Saw a Texas plate yesterday.
It said COLORDO
(This was in Durango, CO)

My plates just arrived. It’s not the most clever, but hey it works.

Clever enough to impress me!

NIW I wish I’d gotten like it when I bought my very experienced 2013 Outback in May. My first Suburu ever and I’m loving it.

Because he’s in CA and you’re in NE you can have the same plate he does. Might be a silly waste of your precious dollars, but your state license bureau will be happy to take those excess bucks off your hands.

Today in a theme park parking lot, a Ford Escape with California plates that read:

4 DJT45

Talk about devotion to your Leader. :open_mouth: The license plate frame said Stanford Mom. I was a little surprised that there were no other bumper stickers or window decals.

I’m sure they would but if I was tempted to so let go of $45, I think DOPER 1 would be even more tempting. That would leave DOPER 2 for @LH75. Maybe we could suss out some more introverted Nebraskan Dopers that way-start a very exclusive in group.

Nah, we’d never see each other’s plate, we’re too spread out in this great big state with far more cattle than people. 6.8m cattle to 1.9m people at last count. Granted Texas has 13m cattle but that’s spread between 30m people so Nebraska reigns supreme on the sparse people:cow ratio. Wanna talk about corn now? Or soybeans? Maybe sugar beets if you’re really thirsting for enlightenment?

Thinking about it for a few minutes, in the deep red knee jerk trigger happy state I’m in, DOPER would be a really ill-considered label to identify myself with. The Legalize Marijuana crowd would love me but I’ll probably get stopped and searched 9 times a day.

Back to the drawing board.

SDMBER works. If your state only allows 6 characters than you’ve got the one and only. if it allows 7, then another 10 folks can tack on a 0 though 9.

Heck, if they allow 7 chars plus a space as many states now do, you could be SDMB BOO or SDMB BBO.

Good ideas I will file away for when my ship comes in…thanks for the ideas, they would be fun.

We can have up to 7 letters, depending on the plate background you choose. So I could be SDMBER1 and @LH75 could be SDMBER2, unless he beats me to it. I’d be surprised if there were more than 9 active dopers in Nebraska.

SDMBBBB or SDMBBOO has appeal too. That would leave the unwashed hordes scratching their heads in the parking lots. And no doubt wondering about what it means on their message boards.

I have trailed upthread that I’ve got my eyes on a personal plate for my new car that’ll be delivered next month. I’ve checked and my idea is almost un-Google-able. Hooray for that! Stump the masses FTW!!1!

And no, my idea is not STM⎵FTW. Although that too would be meta-cool!

Imagine that! I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for that one.

Certain memes do not age well.

But 100% of the people I’ve polled say they’ve never been to the Speedway. They got the plate because it’s a simple, black plate.

Iowa has one. All states should have a plain plate (ooh, maybe in colors to match/contrast with your car).

check your spelling of “teeming millions”

I saw this recently…

5EA 7VS

Would someone decipher it for me? It kind of looks like Seven Seas flipped.

Old Man: Farmers talk of nothing but fertiliser and women. I’ve never shared their enthusiasm for fertiliser. As for women, I became indifferent when I was 83. I am staying here.

I have no intention of being indifferent to women at 83. Unless I’m already dead.

The 83yo men I know at the old folks’ homes are cleaning house. And I don’t mean dusting or vacuuming.

To paraphrase an old saying:

The goods are wrinkly but the odds are unbeatable!!1! :leer:

We are die hard San Francisco Giants fans. Back in the 2010 World Series when the Giants won games 1 and 2, with only 5 games left in the series I was convinced there was NO WAY that the Giants would lose 4 of the remaining 5 games.

Not wanting to disrespect the Baseball Gods (like when Dusty Baker pulled Russ Ortiz in Game 6 of the 2002 World Series and handed him the “game ball”; and now, 22 years later it is still painful!), I thought it’d be okay to order a personalized plate to commemorate the first World Series Championship in San Francisco. So I ordered 2010 SFG.

There is only one time you win the first championship in San Francisco. Fortunately I didn’t jinx it and the Giants won it in 5 games!

Fast forward to 2018 and one afternoon on my commute home from work, a car passed me with its plates:

2012 SFG

Too cool.

Here is my 2010 SFG on my wife’s car.

More of mine.

My initials are RPT. Back in 1980 I bought my first car, a Fiat X1/9. The plate I got was RPT X19. The car is long gone but I hope I still have that plate around here somewhere, but I haven’t seen it in years.

This one has my brother in it. We were crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.

I loved that car! She was a great car, and reliable too. I put 100,000 miles on her before selling it when I started a family.

In 1995 I bought a motorcycle, a BMW R1100GS which is a dual sport bike. Sort of like an SUV of motorcycles. Street and dirt. The GS in R1100GS means Gelande Strasse, or Gelände/Straße which is German for dirt/street. The plate I got for it was 2WL HUMV.

Later I replaced the R1100GS with an R1200RT, a sport/touring bike. The plate I got for it was 2WL TREK.

My last car was a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The plate I got for it was 4WL TREK.

4WL TREK was actually on the car that I had before getting the Jeep, a 1st-gen Honda CR-V.

The Jeep was replaced by a Subaru Outback Wilderness Edition. The plate I got for it is OUTBAKK, which I posted about earlier.

I saw one today that gave me a chuckle, a new, large Chevy Suburban with plates LUNEBIN.

It was on the interstate and I couldn’t tell who was inside it, but I pictured a young family with 4-5 little kids acting crazy, and the parents feeling badly outnumbered.
A rolling LOONEY BIN.

Saw two today.

Our local university mascot / sports team name is the Owls. So I see a late model red Corvette with that college’s themed license plate background and the custom letters OWLDR. I’m thinking they graduated from the local med school.

Saw another one that was rather more formulaic. A fairly new fairly nice car with plate TOY4DBK. Presumably the owner’s initials are DBK.
