Custom Licence Plates — Seen in the Wild

Second plate first:

“AG” is also the German language’s abbreviation for their equivalent of “, incorporated” after a company name. Which will give this plate an interesting ambiguity. Are you talking about silver, or is your Benz a corporate car? You might or might not like this ambiguity.

First plate second:

If you really want the Olde Tyme-y ASCII vibe, CHR⎵27 would probably be better if available.

For a more modern flavor you could choose U⎵001B. Bonus points for the use of hex. If your state supports a hyphen punctuation then U-001B would be better yet.

    Another more-obscure variation is 0X1B".

Today I saw JAGRL-5. On a positively ancient style of FL plate that I’m surprised is still legal. The car was a late model Bentley convertible sports car with an expensive-looking 50-something woman driving.

Hard to decode. Is/was she a girl who liked to say “yes”? Used to drive Jaguars before she traded up? Maybe she’s JA’s fifth wife and he picked out her plate?

One wonders.

Huge Pig

At the same time, I saw LOSER on an Escalade.

Also, a plate I see at one of the places I go to, SMLYFC. While I know it’s Smiley Face, every time I see it, I think “Smile, You Fucking Creep”, since that’s what I thought the first time I saw it.

My first thought was that he was saying “Hey, pig!” whenever he passed a police car.

My second thought was “hedge pig”, but I have no idea what that might mean.

Hedgehog?

“Hej” is a Klingon verb meaning “to rob”. “PIgh” is a noun meaning “ruins”. However the word order is wrong if the intended meaning is “treasure hunter” or something like that. It could be a Klingon-English hybrid meaning “the pig robs”, but I guess that’s unlikely.

That makes sense. Perhaps “HEJHOG” was already taken.

Now to figure out the significance of “hedgehog”. His favorite video game?

I’d suggest that we’ve found Ron Jeremy, but he is apparently in poor neurological health, and probably not driving around in Wisconsin.

Perhaps a self-acknowledged monomaniac? Ref the parable of fox & hedgehog.

Some folks keep them as pets & think they’re cute. Maybe one of those folks?

I’ve seen these recently:
CLOSED! (I don’t know what’s closed and why they’re so excited about it)
GIT NEKD
K8 POT8

I got nuthin’ on that one.

IMO, this person wins the thread for today:

A woman named Kate with an odd fascination for potatoes? Or maybe her childhood nickname was a rhyming joke “Kate Potate”?

I saw a very difficult one yesterday. Damned if I can remember what it was.

SEXY 930 on a red Porsche Turbo 911

Added — that’s bizarre. Imgur has been having problems indexing uploaded photos. The second image, for the album of my 9 photos, was supposed to be a different pic. Oh well.

The latter would be my guess.

K8 POT8 makes me think of Pot-8-Os (aka Potoooooooo), a famous 18th century racehorse. Supposedly the owner wanted to name him “Potatoes” and told a semi-literate stable boy to write the name on a stall or something. The boy wrote the name “Potoooooooo” (“Pot” followed by eight "O"s), and the owner thought it was funny so kept that as the name.

Then, there’s the racehorse, Arrrrr.

Tom Durkin had the best pronunciation.

That was a spectacular cite there @DesertDog. Made my morning. Arrrrr indeed!

Saw one yesterday. Generic black Chevy Suburban or equivalent. Standard FL plate design with ⎵VOLKOS⎵. A last name perhaps? Either that or they’re in IT and support a folk operating system.

Today I saw a convertible Camaro w the top down. Driver is 40-ish man w shaved head. Standard FL plate design with ⎵⎵ARMD⎵⎵. Great … just great.

That’s fantastic, and thanks for that. And for the link—Arrrrr has an impressive pedigree.

As a fan of horse racing, who has been to a number of tracks and heard all manner of race callers, I’ve never heard anything like that. But I wish I had. Maybe owners need to give their horses better names that race callers can have some fun with.

Thanks again!
