Custom Licence Plates — Seen in the Wild

GPZYMGK

It took me a few moments to figure it out: Gypsy magic. I could not tell of the driver was Roma or not.

I have to go into the office this week for various reasons. Hoping to at least get to see some interesting plates while I’m stuck in traffic at the detour. Today on my way home I saw BUG SLYR. Not sure if they meant IT “bugs” or exterminator bugs. Non-descript green truck.

Well, depending on where they are driving, and how fast, there is no doubt that the vehicle itself is a bug slayer. I mean the first Men In Black film illustrated that quite nicely in the first few minutes.

That is quite clever and it would have elicited a laugh from me. Thanks for sharing.

Two interesting ones today.

This one I don’t get, and almost didn’t notice because its pattern looked like a random plate (but it doesn’t match the current NY state pattern): X38 7LB. Any ideas?

The other was NOT3PUTT. Clearly a golfer and I wonder if it’s related to the fact that the Ryder Cup is taking place on Long Island this weekend. It was a fair distance from the site and headed away from it, but still.

Probably a reach, but the X-38 was an experimental aircraft, which was designed to be a possible “lifeboat” for the International Space Station, in order to allow an ISS crew to return back to Earth without use of a Space Shuttle Orbiter or a Russian spacecraft. As the X-38 design was meant to hold up to seven astronauts, “7LB” could be “seven + lifeboat” or “seven + lifting body” (as the X-38 had a “lifting body” design).

The X-38 project was cancelled in 2002, after several prototypes had been built, and several test flights had been done.

Yeah, it might be connected to the Ryder Cup, but that just reads to me like a normal everyday golf nut’s license plate.

I posted this one from earlier this year:

The first D1D␣JOKE was fine, but I did not care for the NEXT60. I also don’t think that INK␣ME is a particularly good thing to ask for when you are driving down the road. I could not tell if the person driving the latter had any tattoos or not as they were ahead of me and then I took a left turn. I should ASK␣LUKA what happened to Bruce Wayne to cause him to drive an ordinary black car as his 8ATMB1L.

Seen in Las Vegas on a trip there this week: BISHOP

Might have been LDS.

I spotted this one yesterday and thought it was cute.

HUGMNOW ← hug me now!

Looking for love in all the wrong places, perhaps?

Huge minnow? :slightly_smiling_face:

Huge me now? As in “I’ve gained a lot of weight lately” or “I’m pregnant with triplets”?

Nothing too interesting the last few days but I did see RJSMOM today. It was some sort of military support license plate but it was dark and I couldn’t tell which branch.

Saw ZIG JAG today. No clue what it means, but it’s certainly unique.

I saw a rusty, POS pickup today with the plate GIGITY.

Last night in the southern Chicago suburbs I saw a Tesla sedan with DAPLUG.

Which, of course, I had to read out loud in the Chicago “Superfans” accent.

My boss decided it was too nice today to have our meeting in a conference room so we walked to Starbucks. Along the way I saw BIKER on a small white car with a bike rack.

I’m back home after ~2 weeks gone. Scored 2 today so far:

  • TEEF on a Genesis (Hyundai) big sedan. Somebody in the dental biz perhaps?

  • 70⎵STAGE on a newish Jeep Wrangler 4 door. Somebody born in the 70s would be 45 to 55 right now. Maybe it’s a ref to a midlife “crisis” or “reawakening”?
