So, the money silliness continues. Annoyed by the electric company hogging the limelight, the gas decided to get in on the messing me around action.
I finally set up an account 2 days ago in my name for the house- I’ve had bills, and paid bills, but they’ve been addressed to ‘Resident’. You can’t pay those online though, just at a shop or over the phone, which is a very awkward and annoying way to pay. They asked when I moved in, I gave 'em the date. So, they set up a new account, backdated to then… and emailed me my first bill, which included a daily charge for 107 days- ie, since August, when I moved.
Pretty obvious whats happened; they’ve not bothered crediting my new account with the payment made by me on the old one. They agree. That is, in fact, what happened. They’ve applied to payment to the old account, which is now sitting there in credit, whereas my shiny new account has acquired all the debits. OK, so, can they move it over please?
Of course, just one problem, we need you to prove it was you that paid that. Send us the receipt. No can do, the phone system doesn’t issue a receipt (which is the other reason I really don’t want to use it).
Oh, says the customer service guy, so you just need to send us a copy of your bank statement so we can see the payment.
Nope.
But you need to, he says, for security!
NopeNopeNope. I am not, repeat not sending a copy of my bank statement to contactus@randompowercompany. org. Because I do, in fact, have the faintest concept of ‘security’, and that ain’t it. I offered to provide sufficient info to prove it was paid using my card, if you really need it, but sending random people bank statements?! How about a list of my childhood pets, teachers, my mother’s maiden name and a copy of my signature as well?
He backed down. Credit was moved. He didn’t even ask for card info.
Oh, and just to add the last complication, my irk has overpaid me, and has applied an tax rebate to my pay. That sounds nice, but they shouldn’t be doing that, that job should be registered as a second job, not my primary job. Because of the way our system works, even though I’m gonna be waaay under the tax threshold for the year in total, tax should still be taken out of that payslip, to be reclaimed later, otherwise I risk a nasty letter and bill for claiming my tax free income on two jobs at a time, when it can only be claimed on one.
Why have all the complications arrived at once?
