True. And I’m no stranger to the fact that CPUs age much more gracefully than GPUs – I still have an i7-860 build in my kid’s room (until Christmas, ssshh…) but the bottleneck calculators seemed to come down pretty hard on the Xeon in their calculations. In CP2077 at least, it seems to be… well, I wouldn’t say “doing fine” but certainly doing better than I expected.
Riding shotgun with Takemura through the dark streets of Night City while listening to jazz is quite an experience, I’ll say that
I wonder if that’s a station or just his playlist…
How much variety is there on a single station? I’ve not really paid attention to that.
I just looked in a mirror and saw my hat. Usually it shows me as bald.
I don’t know. It try to spend as little time in vehicles as possible and I don’t like any of the music anyway.
So, I finally bought a car. I should have paid more attention, it’s a knock off of the Duke’s of Hazzard.
I just noticed that all the weapons that I have put in my stash have disappeared. Clothes are still in there but the weapons are gone including at least 3 iconic ones.
Make sure you check all your stashes, they’re meant to synch but currently dont
Ok, so apparently I have about 6 hours invested in the game so far. But with all the cut scenes and plot exposition, it really feels like I’ve only “played” for 2 hrs, and watched the rest. I still feel like I don’t really know what I’m doing as far as controls/combat. So far I’ve just preferred to go in and madly slash at them with my knife, to great effect. The story is vaguely interesting but I don’t think I’m quite having fun yet.
As for performance on my xbox, it’s not that terrible. There’s definitely some dropped frames during lots of action, and texture pop ins are noticeable. But none of it is game breaking. It has locked up and crashed like 3 times, but 3 crashes in 6 hours is a bit better than fallout 4.
Oh, another gripe. The text on most things, aside from the subtitles which I was able to adjust, are soooo tiny to see from the couch. I need to sit right up close to the screen to read item descriptions.
Oh yeah, and the loading time for cut scenes or for loading a save game are irritatingly long. To the point were I kinda drift and forget what or why things are happening when it finally does load in. Though that could be a lot my fault for the adhd.
Not sure how relevant this is on the Xbox, but on a PC an SSD does wonders. I usually don’t have a chance to read the tip text in the corner before it’s finished loading. In a way, it’s sorta bad, since I frequently save-scum the breach protocol minigame if I screw up too bad.
Ssd’s are wonderous. Alas I don’t have in the xbox.
Yeah load screens are near instant for me
Alright, I’m even more sold on this game then ever. I just got a mission to prove that Zola Barnes didn’t commit suicide by leaping into the path of an incoming train - she was pushed by Night City Councilman Brad Noorwood.
Random thoughts.
I’ve been enjoying it so far, but the Delamain quests are all absolutely borked for me. Whenever I go near one of his cars, he calls me but I can’t pick up, and I can’t activate any of the vehicles. I’d be less annoyed but they take up a shitload of space in my journal.
I normally play talky characters in games like this, but that’s not really an option in this game. The “cool” stat does affect some dialogue options, but not at any greater rate than the other attributes. I went for a body-focused brawler instead. It’s not super effective since it’s so easy to get filled full of holes in combat. I can one-shot a lot of bad guys with a hammer to the head from stealth, but that’s not significantly better than choking them out. In situations where I’m able to defend a choke-point and whack baddies as they trickle in, I’m a real monster.
My several-year-old computer runs the game pretty well at just slightly better than medium, except when I’m driving quickly through the city. It does chunk up a bit when it has to render a lot of it all at once.
Someone upthread mentioned that you miss out on a lot if you don’t read the lore, and this is very true. I’ve run across a number of tableaus that only make sense if you search around a bit and get the backstory.
In the end, I’m classifying this game under “perfectly fine so long as you’re not looking for the next blockbuster 100-hour epic.” It’s a very serviceable sci-fi shoot 'em up with a decent crafting system and a bit of clever writing scattered here and there.
Huh–just discovered something. At least as far as the game is concerned, dumping an unconscious body in a dumpster counts as a kill. I could swear I had missions before where this wasn’t true, but it could be those were only stealth missions, not no-kill missions. The one I just completed (Goodbye, Night City) had a specific mission tracker that went red and disappeared when I put a body in a dumpster. Didn’t get to try a locker.
Oh well, I guess my non-lethal run has been pretty lethal after all .
I was trying a non-lethal run but I have resorted to killing people too. I think I need to have a much better grasp of game mechanics to try a stealth run. It’s just too hard when I have no idea of how half this stuff works.
Todays hotfix addressed the save file size issue on PC. Yay!
