Cyberpunk 2077 release discussion

Relevant XKCD:

For another data point, I’ve been playing on a laptop with a 2060 Mobile. So far no real bugs, everything looks great. Simple High Quality graphics stetting. getting around 60 FPS most of the time. I Have noticed the number at as low as 49 though, and I haven’t remembered to look in any heavy action scenes.
It’s not using ray tracing, but I’m not sure there have been any rays to trace  (The opening so far is one of the darkest games I have ever played)

The only slight bug I have encountered is bumping into floor clutter while crouch walking causes some quick flash perspective changes.
loving it.

That makes sense, as the 2060 mobile benchmarks way higher than the 780:

I’ve been playing some today. It’s fun, but it doesn’t feel ground breaking. So far, most of the city feels like a run down mall.

I kind of just want to know how good it is if everything works. We may have to wait awhile for that. Fallout New Vegas was amazing and I never played the bugged version so my experience was not ruined.

In the end, I wonder if Cyberpunk is as good as:

  • Skyrim
  • Witcher 3
  • Breath of the Wild
  • Fallout 3, NV, or even 4

I’m curious after a few people put 50-75 hours in it what they think.

After watching a few more videos, it is several completely different gaming experiences depending on hardware. PS4 or XBOne are nearly unplayable. For example there are settings to reduce NPC and Traffic density to improve FPS, but leaves a very artificial and fake feeling city, and graphics are still Shitty.
Mid 4th gen upgrades are really pretty disappointing, but playable if you are really excited for it.

PS5 and Series X are giving a Decent game, if you have patience and understanding.
But a good to Great PC, and it is a really great game, that is a blast to play…

It’s definitely not Skyrim, or the Witcher 3. Combat sucks, the enemies’ tactics consist of walking in a crouch and repeating the same phrases over and over. Combat is kind of like something from a game five years ago, like I’m playing Ghost Recon. The story is interesting and the RPG elements are fun.

Agreed. Though I might say 20 years, not 5 . I’m trying to play non-lethal, and got stuck in a place where I couldn’t just run in and punch the enemies, but I could quickhack them with non-lethal damage. Trouble was, it took a hot minute to recharge, and it took like four tries on each baddie. They’re so dumb they don’t rush me, and I can just hide behind a wall until they go down. But it’s boring because it took so long to recharge.

Now, combat clearly isn’t the main focus of the game, but I do wish it worked a little better. I should have stronger non-lethal options, like melee weapons, tranq darts, etc. And the baddies should be smarter to compensate.

I made it through almost the entire level via stealth, which was fun, but the end had one of those dumb things where they detect you no matter what.

All blunt weapons are non-lethal melee, like baseball bats, Hammers, and oddly tomahawks are blunt.

Huh, ok. Thanks. None of those sound particularly non-lethal in real life, but hey, whatever. I was thinking stun guns, etc.

I hope combo attacks count. I accidentally shot a guy in the gut before punching him out. He seemed to roll around for a while, so I think he was ok…

I’m still annoyed that Mass Effect 2 menus and dialogue boxes don’t let me use my scroll wheel.

My scroll wheel works for that. I can scroll up and down conversation choices or on computers for instance.

I wish I could click to select a choice rather than having to press “F”.

In other words, pure cyberpunk.

This is cute, I thought:

I caught several of these before I saw the image, but there were a few I missed. Leeloo mooltipass!

Yeah, since all I really want from the PS4 is to play Spider-Man and The Last of Us. I can’t justify paying a lot for the damned thing.

If you are on a base ps4 this game is an absolute failure. As I said above the experience is 100% about the system you are playing it on. It never should have been released on first level 8th gen consoles.

I am not a console gamer so maybe this is a dumb question, but can they release the game on say only the ps4 pro? Or does that not really happen, if its out on PS4 it’s out on PS4 period

Amusingly, I’ve seen a couple sources say that the second best option after a high end PC might be to play it on Google’s Stadia. I only say “amusingly” because Stadia was widely derided at launch. Google is offering a free controller and Chromecast Ultra with the purchase of Cyberpunk on Stadia right now so not too much opportunity cost – pay the same as you would to play it on a last-gen console and get a much better experience.

I don’t think they can. PS4 Pro and PS4 can because they are the same system…one just has better hardware but otherwise they can distinguish between systems.

The very latest generation has backwards compatibility but it has not happened before (and the latest generation has barely hit the streets). PS4 Pro was just a beefed up PS4 and they both ran the same games. But PS4 could not play PS3 games.

I get why CDPR went console…money…loads of it. But they should have stuck to PC and after worked to port to console.

The game obviously suffers even on PC from trying to bridge this gap.

Yeah…PC Master Race crap but I make no apologies. Some games are just better on PC and some are better on console. Both have a place. Both are fun. Trying to do both out of the gate (especially across multiple platforms) is just too much and causes endless problems.

It also compromises the game since it is built trying to be good on everything rather than good on one thing.
