Cyberpunk 2077 release discussion

I know that Cyberpunk is its own IP. But I have to say that in my short time with the game it also comes across, to me, as the spiritual successor of the original Deus Ex.

How did Red Dead Redemption 2 work so well on PS4-base-model and this game doesn’t?

Because Rockstar programs their games for consoles first and then does crappy PC ports, rather than the other way around?

It feels like Deus Ex to me too.

Deux Ex was very strongly influenced by Cyberpunk and Shadowrun, so it’s not a surprise.

I had forgotten about Shadowrun. I have those somewhere. I really should dust them off and play them again. Loved those games.

So how is everyone doing so far?

End of Act I spoilers:

So I just died. Keanu Reeves showed up. I guess he lives in my brain now. He started off a jerk, but now we are becoming friends

Game runs great, only really minor graphical bugs so far - knock on wood. But I’m on PC.

PC seems to be having a lot less issues. I’m hoping with 6+ months of patches, I’ll get a pretty solid version of this mid-2021 for maybe $30 or so.

Here’s a fun bug I just caught:

“You’re really getting up my ass”

Yeah, I haven’t seen any real glitches, I’m on a pc too. I think it plays best as a stealth game.

This is a public service announcement… “Don’t phase and drive.”

Brought to you by Kitty Pryde and the US Department of Transportation.

Just had my first sizable glitch. An NPC I was working with froze up in the middle of a big firefight. The good news is she drew the fire of 3 bad guys, including a machine gunner until I shot at them. The bad news is that taking that fight solo was a hell of a slog.

I’ll just repeat that the bugs and poor console performance is getting so much attention, I still feel like I have no sense if this game is very good. I’m just curious how great a game it is if it runs bug-free.

I also wanted to mention that I noticed a mod in Wilson’s gun store that says it turns every gun into non-lethal damage, if that interests you.

Thanks, in fact I ran across that myself a few hours back. Had to do a double-take. Although it’s almost too good; aside from giving no headshot bonus, the guns function almost the same way. Feels like I shouldn’t be able to run around with a non-lethal shotgun (with heat-seeking shot).

Still, I mostly play pure stealth, with melee takedowns, and save the guns for when that goes wrong. Or use quickhacks.

If you’re using an AMD processor, there’s a discovered issue where the game doesn’t limits the number of scheduler threads, hurting performance. Until CDPR fixes this (if they do, it maybe have been an intentional choice), you can change it yourself at home and potentially get a double-digit performance boost. Depends a lot on your system – CPUs with eight or fewer cores benefited the most and a lower end GPU could mean you don’t have much room to grow regardless of how well your CPU is ticking.

If you’re interested, there’s already a mod at Nexus Mods that does the fix for you.

I am having a strange issue and it is kind of a PITA. The Uneqip button is not bound to any key and I can’t find a way to bind it (this is on a PC).
I picked up a hazmat suit and put it on and now I can’t get it off and I can’t change any of my other clothing items.

Mouse Wheel (clicking) removes clothing items for me. Maybe you’ve tried it and it’s not working but that’s how I’ve done it.

It’s fine. Good, even. Not “great”, especially not if you’re looking for a rich RPG experience. It feels more like a story-driven single player game than an actual RPG, if that makes any sense – I’m regularly given choices that ultimately don’t seem to make much difference aside from flavor. I don’t think combat is any worse than the Fallout games, which might not be setting much of a bar but Fallout’s combat wasn’t a barrier to me enjoying those games either. The open world is very attractive and has a lot going for it although, again, it doesn’t feel quite as “explorable” as a true RPG title. I like the characters and think they’re well done; sympathetic characters feel sympathetic and jerks feel like jerks.

I’m having fun and don’t regret my purchase but I also bought it months ago for a cheap price and without many expectations. If you’re not feeling sure about it, I think you’re fine to wait until it’s on sale. It’s not going to achieve Witcher or Skyrim levels of RPG fame, probably more like a Dragon Age: Inquisition. Not in mechanics – at all, really – but in that it was serviceable and fun for a play-through but not a benchmark type game (aside from the graphics in this case) nor a DA2 style disaster.

How’d you get it cheap earlier? #jealous

Yeah, it doesn’t work for me but I found that I could transfer the hazmat suit directly into my stash.
