Cyberpunk 2077 release discussion

If you like the Fallout 3/New Vegas/4 series, I’d definitely recommend Cyberpunk 2077. I certainly found it less buggy than Fallout 4, for instance. The main issue I found (playing on a bog standard Xbox One) was that backgrounds (and sometimes NPCs) would get slower and slower to load if I kept playing for hours.

I’ll join in a say it is totally worth it for 50% off. It is, on PC, worth it at full price in its current state, IMO.

If you can, watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix for some good ideas of what you can actually do ingame.

I spent a full $60 for the PC version of the game and I didn’t regret my purchase. I think it’s well worth $30-40.

I got it on PS5 after the big bugfix (2.5 or something) last year, and it was fine. I would absolutely buy it now.

I agree. Having said that, I was thinking about doing a replay recently (I bought it at launch) and there are still lots of articles online about tweaks and mods to increase performance on even solidly mid-tier machines. It’s probably worth figuring out how it’ll run on your card and whether you want to go through the fine-tuning process.

I heard PS5 was really great for this game. Like, the least buggy even at launch.

Only barely related, but I’ll mention it.

A new Pokemon game just released on the Nintendo Switch and it is much, much more glitchy and poorly running than Cyberpunk was on release. It’s one of the most poorly optimized and glitchiest major games in a long time.

It will need many updates to run smoothly at all.

When it comes to Cyberpunk I played it when it came out. I played on the PC and there were some glitches but nothing horrible for me and I had fun.

I then deleted the game.

I want to play again but I want to wait until CD Projekt Red is well and truly done with the game (patching it). Are they done? Is the game as good as it will ever be? (really asking)

Oh, I think they are mainly done patching it. It is releasing a pay-DLC soon and perhaps that will include some more fixes.

I think you should play it at this point though. They fixed quite a bit of it and it won’t get much better.

Is the police actually fun to engage with now, or do they still teleport behind you?

Here is a brief sample of the police now in the game.

“Come on out! I just want to talk to you!”

Why do people insist on treating the game like it’s a GTA clone? Why would you engage the police at all if it’s not part of your current mission to do so?

I’ve never played any of the GTA series so I can’t speak to that; but in my experience Cyberpunk constantly gave me missions where I either needed to engage the police or where police pursuit was a consequence of failure.

Sometimes you get caught stealing a sweetroll and you reload an earlier save. Other times you get caught stealing a sweetroll and decide to wipe out Burma’s town watch before reloading a save.

I’m pretty far into the game, and I haven’t had any missions that required me to fight the cops yet. I still technically haven’t broken the law in Night City with this character - when I do something that accidentally triggers the cops, like running over a random pedestrian, I reload as soon as I get the “how to deal with police” pop up tutorial.

The police are just as corrupt as anybody else in Night City, but, except for the aforementioned missions that require you to do so, there is no profit in “engaging” with them or anyone else that does not have a bounty on their head. I am not sure you even get any Street Cred or experience points or other bonuses for murdering random people? I suppose if you kill/disable cops you could theoretically loot and sell their weapons and armor, but there are so many things to do on the map that this should never be necessary.

You could reload after accidentally triggering a wanted level; on the other hand, there do not seem to be any consequences if you simply drive away from the scene and wait for it to go away.

I’m confused. You guys never mess around in these sorts of games, doing random crap that doesn’t forward the plot or make your character better just for fun?

I like to try to stay in character in games like this, so I don’t mass-murder a bunch of civilians for lulz, because that’s not the sort of character I’m playing. If you’re not driving through crowds on sidewalks, or firing rocket launchers into crowded bars, there’s not much screwing around you can do that’ll bring the cops down on you, at least that I’ve seen.

Anyway, you originally specified getting police on you as a result of doing missions, not running around in the sandbox. I haven’t seen any missions that required you to get the police on you, at least not yet, and I’m at upwards of 100 hours on the game at this point.

Every time the police got mad at me, I’d either randomly killed a civilian (usually while driving) or accidentally hurt a cop through a stray attack.

Most of the time I helped the cops through the little NCPD alerts. There were even times I saw cops in shootouts with gangs and I just popped in and wiped out the gangs to help. I felt like it was my civic duty. (When I wasn’t burglarizing, murdering, extorting, and so on as a freelance mercenary of course.)

I even had a side mission where the cops were beating up a random corpo guy in an alley and through the mission you could fight them but I convinced them to leave peacefully. (Then extorted money out of the guy after they left, of course.)

Nothing ever forced me into a direct confrontation with them.

What sort of games? What games are you comparing to this one?

I mean, I saw the game as basically “Sci-Fi Witcher 3”. I never had Geralt running around killing random city guards, either.
