Cyberpunk 2077 release discussion

REDengine was used for Witcher 2 & 3 and for Cyberpunk. Witcher 3 was a pretty buggy mess on release (though it recovered faster and was less of a PR nightmare than CP) and it turned out to be inadequate for Cyberpunk. Probably not only led to the bugs we saw but also fixing the bugs we never saw meant time consumed and ultimately fewer game features than expected. Anyway, they decided to punt it out the window in favor of Unreal 5 rather than spend time/money improving it for W4 and CP2.

Is W4 confirmed? And if so, do we know who it will be about, given that W3 is supposed to be Geralt’s last game?

Yes, but little is known. They showed a teaser of a lynx-like Witcher medallion, said that they were planning a trilogy around “Project Polaris” (the Witcher 4 in-house development name) and the news about changing to Unreal 5 but that it wouldn’t be an Epic exclusive (Epic makes the Unreal engine so there was some concern).

They’ve also revealed that Project Orion (Cyberpunk 2) is in early production and would also be using Unreal 5

Here is a little article about it. It is definitely their main focus now Cyberpunk is done. They are indeed making a Cyberpunk sequel as well.

The first real DLC is forthcoming soon. It’s going to be appearing at something called “Summer Games Fest”.

  1. Let’s hope it is completely finished when released.

  2. I kind of agree with a guy online who said Xbox users…were supposed to get this DLC free of charge and are now being told they have to pay. Here is a picture of the box(well, sleeve):

I don’t have an Xbox, but that does say “first expansion” and all the free stuff so far hasn’t been that.

I replayed the game a couple of weeks ago; there’s nothing like the simple pleasure of shooting a horde of bad guys through the floor or ceiling and watching them running around trying to hide.

As an experiment, I tried giving V a male voice and penis with a feminine body shape. Everyone referred to V as “he” so I was slightly surprised when River was a valid romantic partner instead of Kelly. I didn’t realise that River and Panam’s romance eligibility is based solely on the body shape chosen (and Kelly and Judy’s romances are based on body shape + voice); I had to look it up afterwards.

Nitpick; Kerry Eurodyne.

I can’t even blame autocorrect on that one…

What system did you play it on? I ask because my PC, a gaming laptop, had tons of glitches when I played. I played it in March of 2021; it had been out about 3-4 months. I played to the end, but it was one of the graphically glitchier games I’ve ever played, at least in recent years.

Just wondering if it is all patched up and looking, you know, like a AAA release game.

I use a standard Xbox One.

My understanding is that some of the glitchiness has been patched since then. It’s still a bit wonky when I play it (frame drops, texture and NPC “pop-in”, dropped loot sometimes floats in mid-air) and the glitchiness gets worse if I play it continuously for a few hours. But overall it’s good enough for me; certainly better than Fallout 4 which would just freeze or crash on a regular basis.

On my PC, Fallout 4 ran perfectly. I wonder if Fallout 4 was designed for PC first, console second. Meanwhile, Cyberpunk ran much better on PS5 and other modern consoles than even PC.

No, Cyberpunk was worst on console, at least the older generation consoles. While the PC had its share of glitches, they were patched pretty quickly. The patches came more slowly to consoles. It was a worse experience.

My understanding is that the release was the best on newer consoles, but the worst on older consoles. PC was something between the two.

On my PC it was great. I played it last year, and while there was the occasional graphical glitch (minor) and a couple of things were unfinished (such as River’s later conversations being messed up), there was nothing that really impacted my ability to play the game or enjoy it. It wasn’t any worse than your average AAA game which will always have some issue here or there.

They fixed a lot. Anyone who wants to play it now, if they patch everything properly, it should be a really nice experience.

I bought Cyberpunk late last month and have been playing regularly, finally finished last night. Quite an impressive game, the city is so detailed and immersive. I only felt like I was starting to learn it towards the end of the game. They must have fixed the game code well because I only saw a couple glitches during my playthrough.

The credits at the end were a full 40 minutes long and you get some bonus items for letting them run the whole way through.

I look forward to trying some of the other endings, although I was surprised how long the ending I chose first was.

I finally have both a PS5 and Cyberpunk to play on it; I’d probably have bought both long before if the game had released in a decent condition.

I’ve only played a couple of hours, and love the world-building already, and the use of PS5 ‘adaptive’ triggers seems worthwhile for once (for quick/hard blows in melee fighting).

I also particularly like the way that the setting means that having tonnes of info displayed on the HUD is actually ‘immersive’, what with cybernetic implants (as opposed to the HUD in Red Dead Redemption, for example).

Same. Played it at launch and there was some minor issues here and there but otherwise it ran fine. Only issue I really remember is that a few select cars would be sunk halfway into the ground before you got into them. I fired it up for kicks (after I had finished) following one of the major patches and my character was naked from the waist down when I got on a motorcycle which was pretty funny. That’s about it though. PCs being what they are and all the various components, drivers, etc I don’t doubt other people had a worse time of it but that wasn’t my experience.

Cyberpunk to get updated minimum specs

As of the pre-order launch for Phantom Liberty, we’d like to inform you about the update to the current system requirements, to ensure that players have a better understanding of what will be needed to run Cyberpunk 2077, and make it easy to assess the expected performance. These changes will take effect following the next update to the base game, no earlier than 90 days, and also apply to Phantom Liberty.

They are revamping the mechanics and applying the reworking to the main game.

Removing armor from clothing seems like a big change. The other stuff doesn’t excite me very much. Better police chases? I’d rather have no police chases, frankly. Different loot drops? I assume they’ll still have a crafting system so I’ll probably stick with crafting my own weapons.

The police chases were pretty bad. It needed improvement. The GTA series had a better system years ago.

Cyberpunk is not GTA. They’re two very different genres of games.
