Many thanks to Gwaelur. I hope they can carry an armoured hobbit.
Hey, if one can carry me and all my weapons, the other can probably carry you. If the DM says it’s ok, that is.
I imagined the Hobbit hitching a ride on a big war horse or with the petite Princess on her princely horse.
Also I thought Gwaelur had two ponies so one could carry him and one his supplies & ale?
I got some good news today. We’ve been trying to sell our house and buy another in a nice walking town. We’re close to ours selling but with a lot of headaches. We’re almost done with the contract.
In a crazy market, we found and won our bid on a nice house in a nice town with good walks to stores, the water and restaurants. I’m dropping from 2 acres which I really don’t want to a nice small 1/4 acre property! Woot!
Congratulations, @What_Exit!
I’ve got the animals for Ghan written up:
Windwing, huge Golden Eagle : s 16 d 17 c 13 i 10 w 14 ch 10 hp 42 hd 4d10 ac 13 150’ Beak +5/d6+3 & Talons +5/2d6+3
12’ wing span. 40 lbs. He can carry a small child or Hobbit a few miles maybe. 39 years old. His mate passed away 12 years ago.
Fang the Wolf s 12 d 15 c 12 i 3 w 12 ch 6 hp 18 hd 2d8 ac 13 40’ Percept +3Adv; Stealth +4 Pack Tactics ; Bite +4/2d4+2 dc11str or prone
Anca the War Dog : s 16 d 13 c 14 i 3 w 10 ch 7 hp 48 hd 4d10 ac 13 50’ Pack Tactics ; Bite +5/2d6+3 dc13str or prone.
Looks like a long legged English Mastiff. (if you bred an English Mastiff and an Irish Wolfhound) He stands a 36” at the shoulder and is long legged. When he works off a little fat, he should be a swift runner at least for spurts. He is a grayish dog but has patches of black and brown.
Palafax Horse s 16 d 14 c 12 i 10 w 12 ch 8 hp 22 hd 2d10 ac 12 70’ No Combat
Fair enough. DM knows best.
A relatively small black mare.
What would mine get?
Probably basic riding horse stats for now. Pretty much like Palafax but little slower and a lot less intelligent.
Congrats on your new digs, WE! Hope you love it.
As to why flying on giant eagles isn’t always the best idea (SFW, despite the portal): Ornithology
Time to move forward I think. Sorry for the delay. We have enough of Hejren done to play I believe.
The paths you’ll be taking will require single file the bulk of the time. Who will head this mission? The Inspiring Leader or someone else? Let me know the approximate distance between mounts. Let me know what animals are scouting while you’re riding. I know Aithorn, Hejren Kestrel will be flying in a gentle circle about 900’ out from the party.
I’ll need to know about anything else like this.
The party basically moves at 40’ (about 4.5 mph) with the Paladin of Oromë, a Druid & a Healer along you can easily go 10 hours a day if you like. Normal would be 8 hours. The journey will be about 320 miles as the crow flies, but your path won’t be so straight.
Sorry. Meant my bird.
Flies 60’ and has 2hp. Basically it is all about Keen Sight has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight. from a height.
Do those of us who need winter gear need to shop for it, or are you doing that for us?
Also, am I slower than the majority of the party when we are mounted? If not I suggest I ride near the front to provide protection. Probably not actually in the lead, more shotgun.
You are slower when mounted. You, Bitur, the magic-mecho badger and the canines. Riding towards the front is probably a good idea. The horses are at least 50% faster until you start going uphill.
Cold weather gear is provided. I should have said.
Bitur should probably go ahead of Gwaelur since Bitur’s probably the better scout of the two of them. But yeah, the dwarves somewhere near the front in general. Probably the hobbit as well since he probably has comparable movement.
If you’re ready to board the boat, let me know in the game thread.
If you want to change out any spells for the cold weather and mountain trolls please let me know. The boat ride should be peaceful and quick again.
Suggested Riding Order: please change as needed
Fang & Anca 40’ 50’canines
Ghân-buri-Ghân 70’ best tracker by far
Bitur 40’ Badger Grávund
Pack Mt. Pony 40’
Gwaelur 40’
Pack Mt. Pony 40’
Gilraen & Felareth 70’
Hejren 60’
Ceol 60’
Thoroncir 75’
So, if there is not last minute stuff, we’ll set out from the town of Wovell.
That riding order works for me; I was going to suggest that Ceol be at or near the rear.
I need to do 5 minutes of work on spell prep; I’ll do that tonight.
I don’t care where I ride. Horses are strange things.
I thought about changing a cleric spell, but Endure Elements doesn’t exist in this edition.
